CHAPTER 407: SARAH AGAIN

The knights were on Cedric’s tail, and his plan was to lead them on. Let them focus on him while Abrielle snuck out. In Evelyn’s and Giselle’s hands, he was sure they would make it out successfully.

"How are we going to cross the gates?" Elias asked, he took a fast glance behind to see the soldiers hot on their tails.

"We won’t be needing the gates to escape. Just lead them on long enough, then we split, disappearing into the dark corners. Individually, it should not be hard to escape; besides, there is a tunnel network underneath the city." Cedric didn’t say much but they understood.

That night, Vitalis was filled with tension, the streets crowded with knights, and the Rumours spread faster than wildfire. The first prince killed the king.

On the other side of the capital, within the forest, a small group comprising four ladies and one cat sneakily made their way through the thick forest of the inner island.

Giselle, the head maid, was dressed like a merchant with Abrielle and Jubilee dressed like boys. Jubilee’s hair was tied into a messy bun, matching her outfit, as she looked like a young master. It wasn’t out of place for a boy to have long hair so it fit.

Abrielle was dressed in a shabbier outfit. Her face was smeared with coal to cover her face and make her look more like a servant boy to Jubilee. Her clothes stink but it was the perfect disguise. Evelyn didn’t change her outfit, but everything was perfect.

It was a group led by Evelyn, a rich mistress, and her brother with his servant boy. Giselle was a random merchant going the same way.

The soil was wet, the forest dark, but they weren’t afraid. The sounds of moving water crashing against the shore drew closer until they eventually made it to the sea, separating the mainland from the island.

There was no way they could cross the bridge without Inspection so this was the best option. They travel by boat halfway to the port where they can join any merchant ships.

"We are here your highness," Evelyn said. Giselle was jubilant and quickly got to work to push the canoe into the sea while Evelyn helped with the bags. The air was cool and dense. Abrielle was nervous, her fingers petting Yuki’s fur.

A wind blew off her cap, and her ginger hair was revealed. "The cap," she screamed, dropping Yuki on the ground as she rushed to catch it. Luckily Evelyn grabbed it before it went too far.

"Thank you," Abrielle muttered, accepting the cap. Evelyn’s eyes narrowed at her. "Wait a moment." She said then quickly checked their luggage to pull off a scarf.

Evelyn tied Abrielle’s hair securely, to hide it. Everyone knew Prince Cedric’s wife was a ginger and they didn’t want that.

"This way, even if your cap gets blown away, you will be safe." She said after making sure everything is set. Abrielle nodded, then bent over to carry Yuki, who meowed softly.

"The boat is ready," Giselle called out. Jubilee rushed over to help Evelyn with the luggage. Everything was packed and Giselle helped put it into the canoe

A cold wind blew and Abrielle shuddered. "It is cold." She purred. Giselle sighed, "You will have to be cautious about your voice and try acting less like a woman." She suggested

Evelyn groaned as she pushed the canoe into the water and later joined. The paddles were given to Giselle and Abrielle to make their cover look more realistic although Giselle was doing most of the work.

It seemed like this plan would work. The boat continued on the water. The temperature dropped drastically, and it became hard to breathe. "Something is wrong," Evelyn stated the obvious.

Abrielle’s hands were shaking around the paddle, frost forming in her hands. Her eyes went wide, her heartbeat ringing in her ears. "Paddle faster," she anxiously said. It was in vain, at the click of a finger, the water grew too dense to paddle, and soon the entire surface was frozen.

"Ice magic," Evelyn muttered, getting on high alert. Her skills were more of invisibility and speed spells that complemented her assassin strength. She didn’t have magic strong enough to go against an ice user of this magnitude

"An ice user of this level is a terrifying opponent to be able to freeze an entire sea." Giselle’s grip tightened on the paddle, trying to pull it out. Abrielle knew who it was.

Her danger sense spiked. They were surrounded by water, and it was a losing battle against an ice user. "We have to get out of this sea immediately." She said, Where was the user? Hiding in the dark?

Abrielle drew in a deep breath, then conjured heat on her palm. She placed her hand against the cold surface and it started to melt. Everyone was stunned at this display. Evelyn heard rumours while they were at Blackthorn that Abrielle could use magic, but it felt different seeing it in person.

The water started to melt around the boat to free the paddles. Then it froze back. An eerie laugh rang. Cute and soft.

In the middle of the water path, a bright light shone drawing all their attention. The rune appeared just like the time they almost caught Sarah but this time Sarah was the one who appeared out of the rune

"I had no idea you had already unsealed your magic, Abrielle." Sarah chimed and Abrielle’s eyes narrowed. Sarah recognised them at first glance.

She said already like she knew her magic was sealed in the first place. "How can you use ice Magic?" Abrielle asked. The only one this strong should be Callista

"Oh that, it’s nothing." Sarah chimed then raised her hand. An icicle appeared, dense and powerful. "Goodbye, Abrielle." She chimed and targeted the icicle at Abrielle

Abrielle drew in a deep breath, her palm stretched forth with flames defending them against the ice attack. The icicle evaporated directly to vapour due to the fire’s intensity.

Sarah stood in front of them, smiling, watching Abrielle catch her breath. "You are strong but not strong enough." She chimed. The wind grew heavy, a blizzard forming. "This will be your grave dear Princess."
