CHAPTER 510: THE REASON

Till his death, he never thought that Callista would be the one to end him. He always feared it would be Cedric or even Eleanor. The two people who hated him the most

In the end, he was killed by a harmless ’ priestess ’, a death that seemed rather irrelevant.

Cedric wasn’t exactly surprised. He suspected Callista had something to do with Kaiden’s death and he was right.

"Your favourite son would be glad to know the truth. The woman he loves killed his father and framed his brother." Cedric sneered. His fist clenched tightly, and his claws started digging into her palm. Blood drips slowly on the floor.

This was exactly how he wished Kaiden to end up but yet he felt some unease seeing him like this. His heart felt heavy, and a tight feeling was in his chest.

Why

Why

Why was he feeling this way?

He hated Kaiden. He should hate Kaiden but yet....

"Thanks to your death I almost died, my wife’s life was put at risk. It wasn’t what I expected your death to be like." Cedric forced a smile on his face. His lips quirked into a smile but his eyes were dead.

Kaiden’s jaw tightened, Lucian was in danger. Cedric could hear his thoughts. Sadly, Kaiden still cared about Lucian; his smile widened.

"You need to help Lucian. He is in danger." Kaiden finally said. His eyes were filled with worry. His brows pulled together.

"Why should I care what happens to your favourite son?" Cedric asked Kaiden, leaving him stunned. Kaiden’s jaw clenched. He slowly averted his eyes.

"He is your brother." Those were excuses.

Cedric groaned then raked his fingers through his hair. He didn’t want to listen to this nonsense. "My brother?" Cedric snarled at Kaiden..

"Cedric please, just help him." Kaiden pleaded like his life depended on it. "Oh, please, if you are so desperate, why don’t you visit him in his dreams to warn him, like how spirits in tales do?" Cedric cut him off.

It was a dagger shot straight into Kaiden’s heart. "I can’t," he plainly said his soul was trapped here. Kaiden moved on to the world of the dead because he didn’t have a lingering attachment to the world of the living

He thought maybe just maybe he could see Ariel again but he didn’t see her. They say there was no one of his description, like the woman he fell in love with, never existed in the first place..

He knew that was a lie. The feelings he felt for her, the love, grief, pain, and happiness. They were all real. Even Cedric was real so Ariel wasn’t his imagination.

"How pathetic." Kaiden’s eyes trailed around him. Watching the blood drip slowly on the floor. "You never treated us like we were brothers. If he is being fooled it has nothing to do with me." Cedric stated.

This was the bed Kaiden made; he had to lie in it.

Kaiden was speechless; he had nothing more to say. Cedric still didn’t understand what was so special about meeting Kaiden’s ghost that would help him.

"She said you loved her." He mentioned drawing Kaiden’s attention. His eyes flickered with emotions which only made the first prince of Darconia more annoyed. Something ticked off in his head.

Kaiden was surprised but hope still shone in his eyes. "You saw her." He stuttered. Ariel was real.

Cedric scoffed at him. He could already deduce that Elysia had not visited Kaiden. He was certain she knew he was dead. Why was Elysia avoiding Kaiden?

Was it her free will or did Raziel have something to do with it? "Yes I did," Cedric answered

Kaiden’s eyes lost their glimmer. "What did she say? Did she speak of me?" He reluctantly asked, a lump in his throat.

Cedric did not answer him but instead asked. "Why?" Kaiden was puzzled. He could not wrap his head around the question.

"You loved her, why did you hate me?" He drew in a deep breath. "You love the son of the wife you didn’t want but hate the one from the woman you claimed to love."

Kaiden’s head was bowed, he could not face Cedric. His breath became shallow.

Kaiden refused to speak or face him..

The room quaked forcing Kaiden to look up. His eyes went wide, and debris filled the air with dust. Cedric’s hand was on the wall. Kaiden was stunned to realise he had punched a hole in the wall, which shook the room.

His eyes were pitch black, his breath rough. There was something about the air and aura that shrouded him which shook even Kaiden, who had faced death.

"Why can’t you answer me?" Cedric demanded. His dark side was steeping out.

Kaiden gritted his teeth. He didn’t want to admit it. "It doesn’t matter." He argued with his head still hanging low. Cedric pulled his hand from the hole in the wall and marched towards him. He was barely a foot away from Kaiden

"Face me, father. Why can’t you tell me straight to my face why?" His voice was filled with his suppressed emotions, which he had kept hidden for years. His jaw was so tight it could split.

Kaiden still refused to look at him. "I can’t." The former king muttered. Kaiden’s voice choked and the tears rolled down. "You weren’t the problem. I was.." he stammered

"I promised to protect her and you reminded me of my failure." Cedric was taken aback by Kaiden’s answer. Was that why he could never bring himself to look at him?

"You look so much like her." Kaiden finally said.

*****

Raziel was leaning against the wall with his eyes closed, he didn’t bother eavesdropping on their conversation.

"How long are they going to take?" Raziel grumbled.

The door burst open with Cedric marching out. He gave Raziel a simple glance after moving a few steps away. Cedric stopped. It felt like time paused for a moment. "How long do you plan on keeping him here?" He asked.

Raziel had a personal vendetta against Kaiden for obvious reasons. A smirk graced Raziel’s lips with his mismatched darkened eyes. "Long enough for him to forget her." He answered.
