CHAPTER 543: A LOST BATTLE

Her self-righteousness was getting under his skin. "It wasn’t your place. I don’t care about your suspicious beliefs or whatever. I ain’t even a full divine being, why do the rules apply to me?" He snarled at her. He was reminding himself that this was the woman who saved his life

"Fate is cruel. If one of you is dumb at least the other has to be smart to make the right decision. ....."

Cedric’s jaw clenched and their eyes locked. His gold eyes burned into her dark ones. Elysia didn’t falter under his gaze. She stared straight into those gold eyes.

He stepped forward, his hand clenched by his side, as Cedric slowly walked forward. "What makes you decide what is wrong or right? It’s my life," he stated.

Elysia was dumbfounded. A smirk quirked on her lips. She heard word of Cedric being tactful and smart but before her here, he was no different from Kaiden

Cedric was indeed his father’s son, they were men who turned foolish because of love. She didn’t blame him but she expected better. She knew what it was like to risk it all for love, if it might work out in the end just like her and Raziel’s but Cedric’s case was different

She had failed him as a mother before but she could not again. She could not stand by and watch him destroy himself just like the past...

She placed her hand in front of her, still maintaining her poised and elegant demeanour. "I have lived long enough. I have seen more than enough, that I lose track of time..." She replied

Her face turned soft, "...I just want the best for you.... If she dies as a consequence of your actions you might not be able to live with it." She added. Her gaze turned more complicated

Cedric sensed it; Elysia knew more than what she was letting on. The queen of Netheralis was hiding some. "She will not die." He spoke each word through his gritted his

His fist balled at his side. "Stop saying she will die. I would rather die than let..."

"Oh please," Elysia cut him off. "That’s why I want to stop this because I know you would do that. You would sacrifice yourself for a mortal. That’s just being selfish Cedric." She snapped, his calm demeanour finally cracking.

"I am not being selfish, I swore I would protect her. I don’t care about the divine realm or whatever soul mate you speak about..." His voice cracked and he swallowed a lump in his throat

"She is the only thing that made sense in my life. I am glad you saved me but I can’t stay away." He smiled at her. Elysia knew he had made up his mind

There was nothing she could do at this point. Her fingers dug into her dress. "You can’t throw away your life. What if you have a soul mate somewhere? Will this sacrifice make any sense then?" She argued, trying to hold onto the last reasoning she could..

"Maybe I am selfish," Cedric admitted..she wasn’t expecting him to say that. Her eyes widened, and Elysia was taken aback by what this man, who bore her face, spouted.

Cedric drew in a deep breath, "If I have a soul mate out there, mother. I am more than certain she is the one."

She took a step forward, bridging the distance between them. Her hands trembled, "That is impossible, a mortal and divine being can never be together." Elysia sneered.

Cedric scoffed at her. " Then I will be the first but tell me.." he laughed out dryly

"Why do those rules apply to me? My father is human but I ended up being a divine being like you. Having the same rules imposed on me."

"Why must these rules and this curse bind me too?" He asked her. Elysia averted her eyes. She was clearly hiding something

"It isn’t as simple as you think." She blurted..she heard his footsteps approach. Her heart squeezed. Why was it so hard?

"I don’t care about the rules or the curse or whatever truth you are hiding. I have made up my mind, mother." Those were his final decisions.

"I am grateful you saved my life but I am going to choose her because it means choosing me." Elysia slowly turned to face him. They didn’t say anything but they both understood each other

Her lips parted then closed. Even if he chooses to disregard fate and the curse in choosing Abrielle to be happy for whatever little time they have.... That wasn’t the only problem.

Demons, or rather the gods of darkness, belong to Netheralis. How was he going to hide from the Elaris? The higher divine being up there would eventually find out.

In the past, Cedric could live in the human realm because he kept his abilities in check. The case was different now. He had grown too powerful.

"What will you do about Elaris? If they find out about your existence and interference with the mortal realm there would be repercussions." She finally asked him.

Cedric had thought of this before he decided to choose Abrielle; these thoughts had run through his head several times.

"As long as I keep my abilities hidden and they won’t find out. I would avoid using any extreme abilities just like you did those 4 years..." He explained.

Her face fell, and a tired sigh escaped her lips. "It’s your choice but if you ever change your mind."

Cedric shook his head. "I won’t change my mind. You of all people should understand me."

"Just think about it..." She argued but he was already gone. His presence faded, the room front desolate.

The silence after his departure pressed heavier than his presence ever did "Cedric." His name slipped from her lips

A muffled cry escaped her lips, and the tears rolled. Elysia buried her face in her palms and started to cry.

It felt like she had just lost the son she had recently come to know. It was only a matter of time before things fell apart. If Abrielle’s life is in danger or she dies, Cedric is most likely to give up his life.

Why did he love her that much?

It made absolutely no sense. What was his obsession founded upon? A pair of warm arms wrapped around her. Her face was pressed against his chest.

Raziel’s intoxicating scent rushed into her nose. His comfort made her cry more. He didn’t say anything but just held her. Raziel heard everything, he knew this was the part he was going to choose

To fight a losing battle. He sighed, his palm rubbed her back to soothe out her cries. "Why can’t he see he is making a mistake? I just want to protect him from this madness." Her voice was muffled with her cries..

Her tears had already soaked his shirt. She clung to him.

"People tend to see what they want to, "Raziel said, a sharp cry slipped from her lips. His arms tightened around her, and Raziel brushed off the hair on her neck. His fingers trailed over the flame mark, and subtle sparks formed on his tips.

The sparks ease her cries, his soft whisper follows. "He is in love, maybe we should let them live in the moment."

His calm words instigated her.. Elysia’s head bobbed up and she shot him a sharp glare

He could never stand her anger, but he tried to reason with her. "The more you force him, the more chances of what you fear would come true." He explained, then held her chin, his every touch carried those familiar sparks.

"What if they find out?" Her hand clutched his shirt tightly. He understood her fear. It was their biggest fear. He held her hand, his mismatched eyes held her dark eyes.

"Don’t worry, I will try to handle Elaris. As long as he keeps his abilities in check, they won’t be a problem." Raziel offered. Elysia was taken aback.

"Why?" She asked without realising it. Why was he helping her and Cedric? The son was born out of her betrayal. He held her face, his face leaned forward, she could feel his warm breath skin.

"It’s my duty to keep your smile, my dear. I will carry the burden with you just let things be." Raziel answered before his lips captured her. It was soft and tender.

Elysia was immediately drawn into his tender touch. His lips which spoke of his undying love. Her feet were swept off the floor.

He didn’t let go of her lips until her back was pressed against the soft bed. Their lips parted, and Raziel’s eyes were locked on her, watching how she fought to catch her breath. A soft smile tugged his lips.

He crooked his face in her neck, his nose gently rubbing against her skin. Her toes curl at the sparks that travelled down her spine. "Let the future worry about itself. Tonight I will take away all your worries." He whispered sweetly...his voice was thick with desire.

Her toes curled with her foot clenching in anticipation. Raziel’s fangs dug into her skin, the pain came first, followed by the pleasure. His tongue rolled over the spot before his lips pressed against it.

They slowly got lost in their own world.
