CHAPTER 545: NIGHT BEFORE THE BATTLE

The biggest cause of issues for couples was always misunderstanding. Cedric frowned, he didn’t want this to cause a major issue for them.

He already has a lot on his plate; the last thing he wanted was a misunderstanding. He sighed, his breath was close to her ears.

"I am part demon," he mentioned. Abrielle already knew this. The large dark wings were not hard to figure out. "What happened? How is she still alive?" Abrielle impatiently asked

It would not hurt to let her know the truth. In the end, it didn’t matter because he had already made up his mind.

"She didn’t die because of her divine heritage and had no idea I was alive all this time...." Cedric started to narrate everything to her.

He gave her all the details he thought were important. Even explained some facts of the divine realm, the difference between Elaris and Netheralis.

He answered her question but left out some parts. The curse that binds every demon to Netheralis. But Abrielle got the basic information, Cedric was the youngest son of the queen of Netheralis and the man she saw that night during the parade was one of his brothers.

Abrielle was left speechless, this world was truly beyond her comprehension. "What if she is right and there is truly a mate out there? Your perfect half." She asked with a weak voice. Cedric held her closer as if he was scared she would slip out of his hold

"That’s impossible," he resolutely said. He was certain that if he had a soul mate, it had to be her because he couldn’t explain why else he was so drawn to someone rytneverything was against it.

"But what if..." Her voice was cut off in her throat. His presence got heavy with a thick aura. She nervously swallowed, she didn’t know how to handle it.

His fear was still there, "even if there is a soul mate out there. It doesn’t change a thing between us...." His words were finite.

Abrielle’s lips clamped together. Her silence bothered him. "Then what will happen when I start turning grey, you might never grow grey, Cedric, since they all say you are more of a divine being than human." A smile graced her lips as she thought about the possibility.

Cedric’s lips finally broke into a smile, she was thinking about their future, one after all these fights and battles. "Even when you go grey and wrinkled, it won’t change a thing, and when you leave this world, I will follow right after you. I hope we meet in the next life.".

His gentle words felt like a love letter.. even Abrielle didn’t understand his devotion or why he loved her so much. She hasn’t even confessed yet. "That sounds like a dream, " she admitted.

Abrielle turned to look at him, his face was bare without a mask. Those pairs of gold eyes stared at her like she was the only one in his world.

Cedric held her gaze, his hand reaching for her face, "I don’t wish for much aside from you to give me a chance to love you. I am ready to fight despite the odds..."

Her stomach fluttered, her cheeks grew warm, and the red colour slipped on her cheeks. "It’s our story and our fate to choose. No one can tell us otherwise."

Cedric spoke like a man ready to defy fate. His eyes were filled with hope. He hopes to see a future one he looks forward to.

"I guess it’s me and you against fate." Abrielle chuckled lightly.

Lucian’s coronation drew closer, Draconia was ready to welcome a new king unaware of the silent storm they hid in the dark patiently waiting to strike

After Kaiden’s funeral was concluded, the winter prayers ended, and the royal family returned to Vitalis, where preparations for the coronation started.

Eleanor was held in closed doors; it was whispered she had an extremely infectious disease, which hid her from the public’s eyes. All this was done to hide the mental state of the queen.

Back at Emberlynx, Aurelius and Cedric started making plans for the evasion. With the help of Heliosa’s superior magic, there was a way to move a large army right to Vitalis in time for the coronation instead of wasting 3-4 weeks on the ocean, which it normally takes from Emberlynx to Vitalis.

First, Cedric planned on setting his men in Vitalis, the shadow knights who were still at Blackthorn awaiting instructions, then the main attack team would reach Vitalis on the day of the coronation.

For their plan to work they needed an insider..

Abrielle was puzzled about who would be the insider. Who was the spy working for Aurelius?

A soft humming tune filled the room mixed with the crackling flames. It was late, close to midnight and Abrielle was still waiting for Cedric beside the fireplace.

The past few days he had been extremely busy meeting after meeting to make sure everything was in place, they could not afford any mistakes

The princess would have joined the strategy meetings but she knew her strength. She was no tactical mastermind and would not understand the majority of what was said in those meetings.

Jubilee and Evelyn stayed by her side during these long nights. "What do you plan to do after the battle?" Abrielle asked the blonde maid. Evelyn was startled by the question.

Jubilee excitedly answered, "I will serve you, my lady." She was a little girl, barely fifteen, who had barely thought much about life. Evelyn said quite lost in her thoughts.

She felt Abrielle’s gaze on her, which made her feel uncomfortable. "How about you Evelyn?" She asked.

Jubilee got super excited, her eyes sparkled, "When do you plan to settle down? A pretty lady like you should have admirers." The little girl chirped.

Abrielle chuckled at her enthusiasm. Evelyn was put in a tough spot. "I haven’t thought of it." She blurted

Abrielle arched her brow at Evelyn, she had noticed something between Evelyn and Elias in the past. Although Evelyn was older than Elias, and it wasn’t common at this time, Abrielle thought there might be hope.

"What about Elias?" Abrielle asked, and Evelyn snapped her head at the princess. Jubilee’s eyes popped out. "The head knight." She gasped.

Abrielle grinned, "If you are interested in Elias. Cedric can create a royal decree." Abrielle offered a royal engagement just to gauge Evelyn’s reaction.

She saw it, the silent glint in her eyes. "Please don’t." Evelyn blurted. Jubilee was already giggling mischievously.

"Are you sure?" Abrielle asked, sounding oblivious. Evelyn hurriedly nodded her head vigorously. "I don’t have any affection for Elias."Evelyn proudly declared

The door was pushed open, and the room went silent. The lady’s eyes were drawn to the door. Cedric stood at the door with Elias, whose face was calm.. Evelyn’s heart skipped a beat.

She feared that Elias had heard her. The maids rose up and bowed to the princess. "Have a good night, your highness", they excused themselves from the room, leaving Cedric and Abrielle.

A grin still remained on Abrielle’s lips, which drew Cedric’s curiosity. He strode to her seat, his eyes narrowed at her.

"Someone looks like she was having a good time without me." He chimed mischievously. Cedric got to her side and then placed a peck on her forehead. Abrielle was still grinning.

"It’s nothing serious, I was just teasing Evelyn." She chimed. Her smile was infectious. He found himself smiling.

"Elias heard her declaration clearly." Cedric sneered, then reached out to pull off his mask. Abrielle’s eyes went wide, and a nervous laugh slipped from her lips

"That’s interesting." She chimed and then got up from her seat. She was glad he was back safely..not that there was anything which could harm him in the capital.

She wrapped her hand around his waist then glanced up at his strong chin. "How was the meeting?"

"It was fine, everything had been finalized," Cedric informed her..his hand was patting her hair. "We will leave for Vitalis by dawn, the shadow knights are always at the capital." He informed her.

Abrielle placed her head in his chest, listening to his calming heartbeat. She was nervous about this battle. It was going to be the final clash between the hero and the villain.

"I want to fight." She nervously blurted, waiting for his reaction. Cedric didn’t say anything, so her eyes slowly looked up to meet his intense gaze. Her heart beat dropped, he wasn’t going to let her.

"Abrielle," he called slowly. She pulled away ready to defend herself. "I can fight. I want to fight by your side." She insisted.

Cedric was hesitant; he didn’t want to take the risk, knowing how dangerous the battle would be. "I can’t afford to put you in harm’s way. Let me be the one to fight our battles." His gaze was tender and sincere.

Her heart squeezed. She didn’t want to be a bystander waiting for him. "But I have trained, even Aurelius would testify to it." She pleaded, he sighed.

"Abrielle please just listen to me this once. Wait for me to come back victorious."
