CHAPTER 563: THE RULES

Back in the sky Maximus finally forced Cedric down. He collapsed on the mountain about to fly out. "They must all die!!!!" He screamed.

Gold chains emerged from the ground wrapping up. No matter how much he fought, they didn’t break. Maximus’s eyes sparkled. He knew it was Cassius. He gripped his sword then disappeared

Maximus appeared behind Cedric, delivering the final blow that knocked him cold.

Cassius appeared by his side carrying Abrielle’s body. Maximus felt his heart tighten a sad smile on her face. "She couldn’t escape her fate." He muttered and then grabbed unconscious Cedric by his hair.

The gold chains disappeared. Maximus made sure to drain Cedric of his strength in case he regained consciousness soon.

Cedric collapsed on the ground. "Do you think I made a mistake?" Cassius asked, making Maximus give him a questioning look with his brow arched.

"Do you regret it now?" Maximus asked. Cassius went silent. "It is too late to regret this. You didn’t regret it when you abandoned your wedding for a human you can’t regret this either..." Maximus’ words left him silent.

"We should leave before they catch a glimpse of this," Cassius suggested. Maximus smiled. "That is already late." He sighed, staring at the rift before them. The space rippled, and a portal formed between realms.

A tall lady, fair as the moon, eyes like sapphire and hair silver like moonlight stepped out. Her gaze was sharp, as it landed on Maximus

In a matter of seconds, they were surrounded by her underlinks. "It’s been a while, brothers, so this is what you have been up to." Nyxoria snarled at Maximus. She was the third in line, the one who suffered when her elder brothers decided to abscond

One for love and the other just lost it. "I guess I can’t run anymore." Maximus sneered, his brows arched. "But you aren’t here for me. We both know who is stronger."

Cassius had been silent all this time. He was known as a pacifist. He doesn’t like getting into conflict aside from that one time. Nyxoria’s gaze flickered to Cassius, then zeroed on Abrielle’s corpse.

"I am here for the 8th prince of Netheralis, Prince Cedric. He has been found guilty of abuse of divine power and must face punishment. " She declared. It was what they expected. Cedric had broken the law, he had interfered with the mortal realm and almost wiped out a city.

Nyxoria’s head was high as she made her pronouncement. A subtle smile on her lips. " As for you, Maximus, I would not force you to come, but you know better. Father is already aware of your actions. If you continue, you will delay her reincarnation." It was a silent threat. Maximus secretly clenched his fist

Cassius, who had been silent all this while, stepped forward. They knew they couldn’t keep Cedric from the trial but everything about the event of today seemed fishy

"He killed his wife," Cassius mentioned, trying to bring up a point. "As it was prophesied, what are you trying to bring up, brother?" Nyxoria calmly retorted.

Maximus’ clenched fist trembled. "Cedric would never do that. He would rather kill himself. " The air tensed. Nyxoria’s soldiers closed in on them.

It was pathetic, they all knew the lesser divine being couldn’t scratch them if a fight broke out, and worst, they didn’t have anything to lose if they were finally banished from Elaris.

"Are you trying to hinder divine justice? We all live by rules. If no one respects the rules the world would be in chaos." She gave a self-righteous speech. Nyxoria was seen as the most responsible among the higher gods, the direct heirs.

"Justice," Cassius interjected again. "Is this Justice? We all know one of us interfered with their battle. Time froze and next he killed her. Aren’t you meant to find the culprit because that is the person behind this chaos?" He explained through his teeth.

A soft laugh rang. They are new despite the rules. Divine beings always interfered with the mortal realm

"Know your place, Cassius. If you find this unjust then prove so during his trial." Silence boomed. Cassius was still reluctant to let go.

Maximus sighed; he didn’t want things to escalate more than they already had. Black mist materialised before them. Raziel appeared, squatting before Cedric.

His eyes scanned Cedric with a smile. He saw the entire thing. He didn’t know if he was proud of Cedric for standing up to Maximus. "Let them have him. He must face the consequences of his actions." Raziel said...

Cassius was stunned. He wasn’t expecting this. Raziel’s mismatched eyes darted around all of them. Nyxoria’s soldiers backed away too scared to hold the gaze of the king of Netheralis.

The prince who abandoned the light for darkness. "Raziel..." Cassius called out. Maximus stopped him. They could not offend Raziel. He was the only one who could match up with Raziel in a full-blown fight.

"Let him." Maximus nodded then stepped back. Cassius reluctantly did so. His jaw clenched. Nyxoria was puzzled why Raziel decided to help her but she didn’t hesitate and quickly secured Cedric.

In less than a minute, they were gone, leaving just the 3 gods. "Why did you do that?" The god of wisdom could not hold back. He knew Raziel loved Elysia..

Why did he let them take Cedric away, knowing the fate that awaited the boy?

Raziel glanced over his shoulder. "The boy was warned. But he chose to fight fate." Raziel calmly said.

"If you want to help him. Focus on finding out who is the one who wrote their fate." He said. His eyes fell on Abrielle’s corpse.

His gaze was complicated. He knew things would come to this. Raziel nodded then disappeared.

"What are we going to do now?" Cassius asked Maximus, who was lost in thought. Maximus sighed, then slowly approached Abrielle.

His fingers traced her face. "I failed her because of the rules." Maximus never expected he would grow attached to the human who took in a cat not knowing she was cradling a god.

He tried his best to help on the sideline, but it wasn’t enough. "No more hiding." They both understood what he meant.
