Chapter 17 - 1: At First Glance, Gu Yuan
CHAPTER 17: CHAPTER 1: AT FIRST GLANCE, GU YUAN
The village chief’s impression of Chi Yu instantly worsened.
Without arguing further, he picked up his bamboo hat and went out. Sheng Yi noticed the figure running quickly in the rain and hurriedly shouted, "Hey, village chief, you didn’t take an umbrella."
Liu Ru walked over, sitting next to Sheng Yi, "The village chief has a bamboo hat."
"That thing on the village chief’s head?"
"Yes."
The atmosphere suddenly became quiet.
Chi Yu didn’t go upstairs, standing by the doorstep looking at his phone, ignoring everyone as if he were isolated from the world. After Li Yan came down, she behaved more properly because Weng Lan glared at her, signaling her to behave.
"The village chief just said the owner of the homestay rushed back for a blind date. It seems the young lady is eager to get married, but impatience does no good. Hopefully, she’s okay," Yu Yang joked.
Lin Xijiang glanced at the rain outside, "Should we go and help?"
"Yes, yes!" Director Liu Xu stood up, "Let’s have a few people go. Lending a hand is always right. One from the camera crew should go to document it."
In the end, three people went.
A photographer, Lin Xijiang, who volunteered to help, and another staff member.
Deep within the mountain bay.
On the way back, the pouring rain caused a landslide, a rock the size of a head rolled down, hitting the car’s hood with a loud ’bang’.
Immediately after, a ’boom’ was heard ahead, as the road was covered by sliding mud and rocks.
"Sit tight, President Gu," Dao An immediately hit the brakes.
The car body lurched forward, and Gu Yuan protected her head instinctively.
Some part under the hood was damaged, making the car unable to start or reverse after braking. Dao An quickly got out to pull Gu Yuan out of the car, asking worriedly, "President Gu, are you alright?"
"I’m fine," Gu Yuan held onto Dao An, stepping back. "Let’s go to a safe place first, forget the car, call the village chief for a pick-up, we won’t be able to leave tonight."
"Understood," Dao An hurriedly made a call.
Leaving in a rush, Dao An didn’t have time to take the umbrella.
After reaching a safe spot, both Gu Yuan and Dao An were soaked by the heavy rain.
Dao An took off his jacket, spreading it open like a human umbrella to shield Gu Yuan from the rain, but Gu Yuan stopped him, "We’re already wet. Keep an eye on the surroundings now, as there’s no car to protect me this time. Let’s hope for the best."
Dao An put his jacket back on, nodding.
Dao An, who has always mingled in the circles of fame and fortune, was somewhat scared by this first encounter with a geological disaster. However, seeing President Gu, a woman, so calm, he didn’t dare lose his composure either.
Soon, the village chief and Lin Xijiang’s group arrived.
"Yanyan, Yanyan, are you alright?" The village chief was worried sick all the way there.
He blamed himself for ignoring the weather, for not advising Yanyan to leave after the rain, otherwise, such a dangerous situation wouldn’t have occurred.
Gu Yuan replied, "I’m okay."
Lin Xijiang spotted Gu Yuan at first glance in the crowd. To be honest, he never expected the homestay owner the village chief mentioned to be such a young and beautiful girl.
In the gleaming light under the night rain, even a blurred side profile of Gu Yuan was enough to impress Lin Xijiang. He walked over, holding an umbrella to shield Gu Yuan from the rain, "Got frightened?"
This is a geological disaster, and if unlucky, it could be deadly.
Gu Yuan shook her head, "I’m fine."
Dao An took the umbrella from Lin Xijiang, "I’ll handle this."
With his hands free of the umbrella, Lin Xijiang took off his jacket, putting it over Gu Yuan’s shoulders, "Don’t mind for now. You’ve been in the rain for a long time, and it’s not good to stay cold. Put on my jacket to ward off the chill and prevent catching a cold."
