CHAPTER 39: HIS YUANYUAN
"No rush with the clothes," Lin Xijiang said.
Gu Yuan nodded and continued walking out.
As Lin Xijiang watched her back, he couldn’t help but think that she didn’t seem like someone who had lived in the countryside for years. Instead, she resembled a gentle and elegant lady from an ancient high tower.
She was always gentle, her words measured, making people unconsciously want to get closer to her.
Unknowingly, Lin Xijiang followed Gu Yuan out of the courtyard.
Gu Yuan stood under a lush osmanthus tree. Noticing Lin Xijiang following her, she asked, "Aren’t you picking tomatoes?"
Lin Xijiang was actually a bit embarrassed. After all, he was a man in his thirties, yet he felt somewhat clumsy in front of a woman.
Never mind, there’s plenty of time ahead.
"I’ll go pick them now," he said, then took a vegetable basket, picked some tomatoes, and came back out.
Once Lin Xijiang went inside, Gu Yuan called out to Dao An in the distance.
Hearing her, Dao An hung up the phone and jogged over.
"Is the road clear yet?" Gu Yuan asked.
Dao An explained, "The road is not entirely passable yet. The construction team cleared the debris, but the hillside slid down again. Although most of it has been cleared, that section of road is dangerous and could have an accident at any time."
Dao An thought Gu Yuan would be angry, as the issue had been delayed repeatedly and deserved some scolding.
But Gu Yuan gently said, "Safety is important, it’s okay."
Dao An was surprised, thinking that President Gu seemed to have cultivated himself in this small village for the past few months, visibly happy living here.
"President Gu, about your private helicopter..."
Gu Yuan interrupted Dao An, "I was just joking, no need to make a fuss." Her eyes were gentle, like a warm spring breeze, with lingering laughter.
She said, "I’ll leave once the road is open. Honestly, I’ll miss this place. By the way, have you found the right person to take over the farmhouse? I’ll handle the handover personally."
"We’ve selected a few after interviewing a batch. I’ll send the information to your computer later," Dao An said.
Gu Yuan nodded, and Dao An went back to finish the call he hadn’t completed.
The afternoon was sunny and breezy.
The double-leaf gardenias outside the courtyard had wilted in the sun. Gu Yuan picked a wilted gardenia and placed it on her hair tie, creating a natural perfume.
The tall osmanthus tree outside the village chief’s door was one Gu Yuan had climbed several times before.
She didn’t climb out of childishness but because the village chief’s little grandson, Tutu, often climbed up and couldn’t get down. It was too much for the elderly village chief and Aunt Cai to handle, so Gu Yuan volunteered to help several times. Recently, she heard that Tutu went to the city to be with his parents.
With so many people at the village chief’s house, it wasn’t convenient to nap, so Gu Yuan quickly climbed the osmanthus tree. The human-shaped branch was sturdy enough to hold over a hundred pounds.
Climbing up, she sat down, leaned against the standing trunk, and prepared to take a nap. She’d think about tonight’s menu after waking up.
At this moment, Gu Yuan was unaware of the intense gaze fixed on her from not far away.
It was Chi Yu.
When Chi Yu arrived earlier, he saw Gu Yuan effortlessly climbing the tree and thought his vision was playing tricks on him. Yuanyuan never did something so childish and silly...
He walked toward that direction, each step somewhat unsteady, his breathing becoming slightly erratic, afraid that this scene was again an illusion, leaving a heart-wrenching pain upon waking up.
Finally getting closer, Chi Yu looked up at the person in the tree.
It was Yuanyuan...
It was his Yuanyuan...
