Chapter 64: Yanjing Quan Family
CHAPTER 64: YANJING QUAN FAMILY
When Gu Yuan came downstairs, everyone from the production team greeted her.
Gu Yuan nodded politely, then took a basket to pick some vegetables to take with her.
Sheng Yi came out of the kitchen and, seeing Gu Yuan with a basket picking vegetables, immediately ran over.
"Yuanyuan, are you taking vegetables with you?" Sheng Yi came closer.
Gu Yuan: "Yeah, I haven’t eaten much of what I’ve grown myself, so I’m taking some back to eat."
Sheng Yi sighed as she spoke, "If only you had taken me with you when you first came to Ancient Water Village."
The rural environment was alright, though it required some getting used to, but Sheng Yi thought, for Yuanyuan, she’d adapt quickly.
See, she was adapting quite well now.
Gu Yuan said nothing, bending down to pick vegetables.
She picked some peppers and green beans, but not much, as she rarely ate at home due to her busy work schedule, and the Gu Mansion remained cold and empty all year round.
The first few vegetables were picked in small quantities because she needed to make room for picking cilantro.
Seeing Gu Yuan picking a lot of cilantro to put in the basket, Sheng Yi squatted down puzzled and asked, "Yuanyuan, am I remembering wrong? I thought you didn’t eat cilantro."
"I didn’t before, but then, I don’t know why, I suddenly started liking it," Gu Yuan said truthfully, not lying to Sheng Yi.
But to Sheng Yi, it meant something else. She leaned in and asked, "Is it because Chi Yu loves to eat it, so you compromised to his taste?"
The topic came so abruptly that Gu Yuan’s face showed no expression.
Meanwhile, not far away, Chi Yu heard Sheng Yi asking Gu Yuan that question, and his expression showed a fluctuation, growing stronger and stronger.
Gu Yuan doesn’t like cilantro.
Neither in the past nor later.
Why does she like it now?
Sheng Yi felt a pang of guilt, silently cursing herself for being foolish, wondering why she brought up such an off-topic issue, and quickly said, "Yuanyuan, don’t mind me, it’s my fault for speaking out of turn."
Gu Yuan shook her head, "It doesn’t affect me."
Sheng Yi breathed a sigh of relief but still felt guilty inside, just about to change the topic, when Gu Yuan smiled and told her, "It has nothing to do with Chi Yu. It’s because one day I had a dream, a weird dream, where I was constantly trying to cater to someone. When I woke up, my heart felt empty, and slowly, I found my tastes changed."
The words were narrated slowly, as if telling a story.
And Sheng Yi indeed listened to it as a story, nudging Gu Yuan, "Yuanyuan, you’re always pulling my leg."
Gu Yuan smiled, packed the cilantro into the basket, stood up, and said, "As long as you don’t believe it, you won’t be fooled."
"Hehe, I learned my lesson long ago." Sheng Yi stood up with her.
Gu Yuan carried the basket back to the narrow path, looking up to see Chi Yu standing there. He took a few steps, looking sideways in another direction, as if just passing by.
Gu Yuan: "..."
The words had been said clearly, and Gu Yuan remained calm, carrying her basket.
Her phone suddenly rang.
It was Dao An calling.
Gu Yuan answered, and Dao An’s voice came through the receiver, "President Gu, the matriarch of the Quan Family from Yanjing just sent an invitation."
Gu Yuan: "The Quan Family from Yanjing?"
She was dominant in Sui City but hadn’t meddled in the affairs of the Quan Family in Yanjing. Meet her? Talk about major cooperation?
Dao An hesitated for a moment, then slowly said, "From what the Quan Family Matriarch implied, it seems they intend to join the Gu Family in matrimony."
Gu Yuan raised an eyebrow, "Marriage alliance? That’s too soon; I haven’t even given birth yet."
Dao An: "It’s with you, President Gu."
