The witch thought I am a Demon God
Chapter 95 - 95 87 Moonstone and Prayer for Truth_1
Chapter 95: Chapter 87 Moonstone and Prayer for Truth_1 Chapter 95: Chapter 87 Moonstone and Prayer for Truth_1 Ivita had no intention of meddling in matters haphazardly. However, the assassin who was after Lady Alice held two daggers in his hands. While he was sprinting, he assumed the pose of bowing with his fists together.
“To the Demon King of murder, I confess, I believe that slaying every single one of my targets, and extending the scope of my targets as much as possible, is my mission.”
“I am savoring the thrill that murder brings. Murder is the utmost joy!”
The assassin shut his eyes. When he reopened them, they were veiled with a dreadful scarlet hue.
Simultaneously, the two daggers in his hand overlapped, transforming into a single one. One became the substance, and the other its shadow, inseparable like a figure and its silhouette.
A shadowy spear shot out from the dagger, aiming perfectly to pierce the handmaid’s arm, Lady Alice’s heart, and Ivita’s stomach all at once.
Ivita sighed, for he knew, if the tree wishes to lie still, the wind will not cease.
The moment he entered the city, he was likely to get entangled in the quagmire of Ambros’ conflict.
Because at such times, even passing bystanders seemed to have ulterior motives in the eyes of the factions.
Ivita pulled out the Sword in Fire, ready to use the Lightning Curse. As he prepared for battle, a Flame Bird flew out from his left eye, even bursting into a crow’s cry.
The departure of the Flame Bird drained all the fire magic power from Ivita.
The flames on his retinas shrunk significantly, allowing him to momentarily view things almost like a normal person.
Instead of always looking through a cluster of burning flames.
The Fire Bird landed on the assassin, causing him to scream, “A Wizard!”
“This was never mentioned in the mission!”
The protective amulet on the assassin’s waist shattered into useless fragments under the flames and fell to the ground.
The crescent-shaped stone on his neck absorbed a sizable amount of the flames. The once faded-blue stone turned into a dark red hue and was no longer capable of absorbing any more flames.
Rather, it turned into a branding iron imprinting a servant-shaped mark on the assassin’s chest.
The maid beside Lady Alice said: “Madam, and that gentleman… that’s a Moonstone.”
“The Moonstone that can absorb flames, its last massive use is said to have happened because of King Alsace. Apparently, the previous King of Alsace – the battle-hardened War King whose name was struck from the record – was constantly attacking No Man’s Land. So, the Aleppan people built a gigantic Great Wall out of Moonstone.”
“The Moonstone Great Wall can absorb Dragon Flame.”
Despite this, the strength of Ivita’s Fire Bird Magic is already above that of the average Wizard’s magic. It’s just that he can’t control his power actively.
This is a conjunction of three Fire Snake Series Magic spells, plus a spell that stole Ivita’s memory of the Golden Raven.
The assassin from the Little Brotherhood quickly realized that his protective amulet couldn’t suppress this fire magic spell.
However, he still had a plan.
He used Shadow Step to jump at least five times in the shadows of nearby pedestrians. Each time he managed to dodge the flames, but the fire seemed to be sentient and followed him remarkably.
The raging flames formed a giant Fire Bird, persistently tailing the assassin.
“How can this be!” The assassin glared at Ivita. “I’ve dealt with many Wizard apprentices and professional Wizards. Even if ordinary fire magic possesses tracking ability, it shouldn’t be able to track me five times consecutively! I refuse to believe that this Fire Magic can keep up with me!”
The assassin believed his Shadow Step had reached a certain level of proficiency. He decided to test it against the Fire Magic to see who could outlast whom.
Frantically moving within the crowd’s shadows, he worked his hardest to outspeed the Fire Bird, jumping through the shadows of three different people within a second.
He truly demonstrated the essence of an assassin’s art.
Nevertheless, the Fire Bird merely soared high into the sky, overlooking the streets from above, suspended in mid-air.
The moment the assassin was finally exhausted and forced to stand in a corner, the Fire Bird dove straight towards him without delay.
The assassin in the shadows, cornered against the wall: “…”
He looked like a clown who had run out of tricks, while a magical Fire Bird didn’t follow his rhythm at all. Upon sighting which shadow he was on, it charged straight over.
The assassin cried out: “This isn’t a tracking spell at all, does your magic have sentience?”
“Did you use the soul of the dead in your magic?”
Ivita was also taken aback.
For the first time, he realized that the Fire Bird Magic, merged from his eyes, possessed traits of intelligence.
The assassin declared resentfully: “There is always a way to break any magic! I will find it.”
Ivita spread her hands towards him. “You’re not wrong in saying that, but there’s a problem: as the spellcaster and creator, I don’t even know how to break the Fire Bird Magic.”
“If you can find a solution, I suppose I should thank you.”
It’s very dangerous for a magic spell to lack a counter-curse.
A counter-curse is a spell that nullifies the effects of a curse.
If a magic spell lacks a counter-curse, it means that it harms both oneself and one’s allies, with no effective solution for the wizard casting the spell.
The assassin, hit by the Fire Bird Magic, dropped his dagger.
He clasped his fists together once again. Even though a good deal of his skin was already charred, he still fervently prayed.
“The hall of the God of Truth will never allow the existence of flames, let the evil flames retreat. Before the truth, the flame is feeble.”
Under such a prayer, he radiated a kind of invisible and transparent fluctuation. The Fire Bird Magic on him was really slowly disappearing, even though he had been severely burned and lost almost all his mobility.
But he survived.
Ivita looked at him in surprise.
‘God of Truth?’
‘This is not the faith of The Church — the God of All Things, nor the belief contract of the assassins, or the skill of Leap of Faith. He is praying to some god.’
‘When I asked the apprentice assassin Laplace about it, he was silenced before he could reveal the real faith of the Little Brotherhood.’
‘This time, this man finally revealed the belief of the Little Brotherhood. If The Church finds out about this, I fear the Little Brotherhood will be attacked. Then again, does The Church really not know?’
The assassins saw that they had nearly finished off the noblewomen, and that Parviga’s professionals and armies were rushing over. They decided to quit while they were ahead and began to retreat at the sound of a whistle.
In the process of retreating, one of the assassins tried to use the Shadow Step to move into the shadow of a secluded alleyway. As he stepped into the shadow, he triggered a trap and was held in place by a snare, remaining in shadow form.
A hunter wearing a lion’s pelt and a lion’s head for decoration on his back walked out of the alley, “Hmph, these assassins are truly disgusting.”
“But by using the Condensation Potion, they can no longer escape from the shadows. Even when they transform into shadows, they are forced to reveal their bodies.”
Another assassin, who had been severely burned by Ivita’s Fire Bird Magic, was also unable to leave.
Twenty warriors surrounded this assassin, but none dared to approach him for the time being.
Ivita sighed, sheathing his Sword in Fire, “Stand back. I’ll deal with him.”
I can’t believe that I have become powerful enough to deal with a professional assassin.
Of course, this is mainly because he doesn’t know anything about me and I’m not his primary target.
There’s a huge difference when an assassin is prepared and when he’s caught off guard.
Lady Alice watched Ivita with surprise. Less than fifteen minutes ago, she assumed Ivita was just a struggling noble child.
Who would have thought that he’s actually a wizard?
And a very powerful one at that.
She quickly noted her previous rudeness. It was one thing to treat a small noble child that way, but to treat Ivita in such a manner could potentially offend people.
Lady Alice shouted at Ivita: “Honorable sir, you must keep him alive.”
“Because I want to know who their employer is.”
“The Little Brotherhood has always been loose-lipped.”
“This information can be tortured out.”
“Which third-rate scumbag used such underhanded tactics? Today is the day to convene the City Council to determine whether our city should join the Ambros City Council Alliance, and they hired someone to assassinate me at this time …”
Deep down, Lady Alice felt she was getting some clues. “Honorable sir, you have earned my friendship. I will do everything I can to help you with one matter to repay this favor.”
Ivita raised an eyebrow; this was an unexpected delight.
Since he was just about to do business with this woman.
If he could score some benefits out of this, then he would consider this day a success.
