Chapter 124

Interests and Voting

On the way aboard the airship, Master Theodosius had already explained the situation to Lucy, and she had expressed her understanding.

After all, if not for the system by her side, even she would have found it difficult to resist the overwhelming temptation of power brought by Soul Devour.

Just as the Star Law Institute had feared—

If ten million souls could elevate a wizard to the Star Ring, then what about one hundred million?

Without the constraints of the laws of the Realm of Death, Lucy—should she harbor even the slightest malicious thought—could potentially bring irreparable catastrophe to the wizarding world.

“What exactly is the Divine Remains Round Table?” Lucy asked.

“The Round Table is the most central institution of the Star Law Institute,” Master Theodosius explained unhurriedly. “It was established by the original Crown Wizards and operates through an internal recommendation system. Its duties are to oppose the Old Gods and Outer Gods and to organize planar crusades, among others.”

He paused briefly. “At present, the Round Table is presided over by twelve Crown Wizards. There are thirty-seven Star Ring Wizards and twenty high-ranking wizards as official members. Over the course of three thousand years, it has developed a total of 1,403 members.”

In short, the Divine Remains Round Table gathered the highest combat power of the wizarding community. It was also the true leadership of the entire Wizard Continent.

However, the organizational structure of the wizards was inherently loose—despite the many rules set by the Star Law Institute, it had no authority to directly command the towers scattered across the land.

Its cohesion stemmed entirely from the Star Law Institute’s unparalleled combat strength and its supreme authority in scholarship.

“But I’m only a Tier-5 apprentice. Can I still join?”

Lucy couldn’t hide her confusion. What puzzled her even more was that there were more Star Ring Wizards than high-ranking wizards.

“I’ll be your recommender,” said Master Theodosius with a smile. “But recommendation is only one requirement. The other hard condition is that you must possess a record of ‘single-handedly slaying a god.’”

Throughout the three-thousand-year history of wizardry—even tracing back to the era of the ancient gods—only one apprentice had ever achieved this feat.

This also explained why the Round Table had a higher proportion of Star Ring Wizards.

Feeling the approving gaze of the master, even Lucy couldn’t help but grow slightly shy.

“I was just lucky, that’s all.”

“Luck? I prefer to call it ‘destiny’,” Master Theodosius said meaningfully. “In ancient times, that ancestor who accidentally constructed the first witchcraft model—was it not also through ‘luck’?”

“And it was precisely that moment of chance that ushered in the wizard era, burying the civilization of the Old Gods.”

He gazed intently at Lucy. “Every wizard who stands at the pinnacle of the wizarding world has had several key moments of ‘chance’ in their life. So don’t reduce any achievement to mere luck.”

“Because luck is also a part of strength... perhaps even its entirety.”

“The entirety of strength?” Lucy asked, puzzled.

“Ahem, once you’ve spent enough time at the Star Law Institute and meet that one, you’ll understand.”

Lucy merely nodded in silence.

After all, this wasn’t some exaggerated legendary tale. Relying too much on something as intangible as luck would eventually exact a price.

By comparison, she was more concerned with the practical benefits of joining the Round Table.

Since she could no longer return to the Tower of the Four Sages, her previous access to resources and knowledge had been completely severed.

“You don’t need to worry about that,” Theodosius saw through her thoughts. “The Star Law Institute has always been generous with Round Table members.”

“As long as you complete your tasks, not only will you be allowed to build a wizard tower within the institute—oh, I forgot, you’re still an apprentice. In that case, you’ll likely be assigned a high-level laboratory.”

He paused deliberately. “More importantly, all the knowledge in the Star Law Institute’s library will be completely open to you.”

“Completely open?!”

Hearing such terms, Lucy couldn’t help but tremble with excitement.

The Star Law Institute housed over ninety percent of the accumulated knowledge in the wizarding world from ancient times to the present. For a truth-seeking wizard, this was far more precious than any material reward.

Theodosius burst into laughter. “I knew it—you’re exactly like I was when I joined. A true scholar—who could resist such temptation…”

Suddenly, he grew solemn. “Get ready. It’s time for us to enter.”

“Yes, Master!”

When Crown of Imaginary Numbers, Albert, called out her name, Lucy followed Theodosius into the resplendent Round Table Hall.

Around the round table, which bore twelve high-backed chairs, sat only three Crown Wizards—those who remained on the Primary Plane.

“Allow me to introduce them,” Theodosius announced respectfully. “His Excellency Crown of Imaginary Numbers, Albert. His Excellency Crown of the Astral Realm, Hermes. And the Continent’s foremost alchemical scholar, Crown of Alchemy, the Cat Witch, Lady Molly.”

Wait a moment!

Cat Witch Molly?

Lucy’s gaze instantly locked onto the petite figure seated at the far end.

With fiery red hair adorned with a butterfly clip and her body wrapped in a voluminous white wizard’s robe, the girl was blinking with eyes as clear and innocent as a college student’s.

Had Theodosius not confirmed it himself, it would’ve been impossible to associate this image with one of the twelve strongest individuals on the Wizard Continent—the Crown of Alchemy.

Noticing Lucy’s incredulous stare—

“The new member seems very interested in me~” Molly coyly covered her mouth. “Would you like to come to my tower and study alchemy?”

She tilted her head and added, “I bet some of these exclusive witchcraft models can’t be learned anywhere else.”

Join her tower?

Clearly, this Crown Wizard, known as the Cat Witch, was recruiting her. But Lucy still didn’t understand what this so-called "joining" truly entailed.

Instinctively, she glanced sideways at Theodosius—the only wizard she completely trusted.

But the master stood silently with his gaze lowered, offering no hint or signal.

“Thank you for your kind offer, Lady Molly. I will consider it seriously and carefully.”

Faced with such a noncommittal response, Molly didn’t seem to detect the implied rejection at all. Like a dreamy young girl, she continued her enthusiastic pitch:

“I heard you’re a wizard from the Anatomy School. Among the Twelve Towers of Law, none represent the Anatomy School. And I can guarantee—what I can offer, no other tower can!”

“Lady Molly!”

Crown of the Astral Realm, Hermes, suddenly interrupted her. His voice was calm but left no room for question: “Now is not the time to recruit new members. The initiation ceremony has yet to be completed. Could you put this off for now?”

Molly merely puffed out her cheeks and huffed, finally falling silent.

It was only then that Crown of Imaginary Numbers, Albert, stood again with a cheerful smile and said, “Miss Lucy Felicia. Recommended by Star Ring Wizard, The Pale Scalpel, Theodosius. This satisfies the second clause of the membership rules. We shall now proceed to vote on her induction into the Divine Remains Round Table.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he was the first to tap on the round table before him.

Hermes and Molly followed suit, tapping the tabletop in turn.

Once the three Crown Wizards had unanimously agreed, dozens of stationed members throughout the hall joined in with their own knocks.

Albert raised a hand to signal silence.

“The vote has passed. Lucy Felicia is hereby inducted into the Round Table.” Albert extended his hand. “Welcome, Miss Felicia.”
