The Witch's Anatomical Notes
Chapter 126
Chapter 126
Star Law Codex and A Short Separation Feels Like a New Marriage
With Olivia’s company, Lucy no longer considered searching for a new place to live, not even applying for the laboratory that Master Theodosius had mentioned.
After all, with the Abyss of Nightmares in her possession, she essentially carried a personal domain the size of a principality wherever she went.
It was completely safe there and utterly isolated from external interference.
Though Olivia had acted eager to "get a match started" the moment they reunited, once the two of them returned to the room hand in hand, they simply held each other quietly.
The black-haired girl listened intently as Lucy recounted her experiences from the past half-year — from entering the Realm of Death with Theodosius to the perilous encounters with various deities.
By the time she finished listening to how Lucy had followed Master Theodosius into the Realm of Death and met all kinds of gods, the black-haired girl could no longer hide the shock in her heart.
She had expected Lucy’s journey to be quite extraordinary, but never imagined it would be this extreme.
Devouring tens of millions of souls, battling a quasi-deity Chief Arbiter, subduing the Dog God Fenrir… just hearing it made cold sweat soak Olivia’s back.
"So that means you've already joined the Divine Remains Round Table?!" Olivia's voice trembled slightly with shock.
Lucy took out the badge engraved with a bone motif, the Elvish inscription "1404" in the center faintly glowing.
Just as Olivia reached out to touch it, Lucy stopped her.
"There’s a magical vein etched in for identity recognition. Anyone but the bearer will trigger its attack if they touch it."
Olivia quickly withdrew her hand, a trace of frustration on her face.
"Viya, do you really want this badge?"
"Of course," Olivia said excitedly. "This is one of fewer than fifteen hundred formal member badges still in existence. Every holder is one of the greatest wizards of their era."
"Do you know whose bones this is?"
Seeing Lucy shake her head, Olivia lowered her voice. “The Goddess of Life, Isis. One of the Pillar Gods of the Divine Era, said to have created humanity—she was also the first chief deity to fall at the hands of wizards.”
“Her death directly triggered the full-scale war between the wizards and the Old Gods.”
To commemorate this achievement, the first Crown Wizards used her remains as the emblem of the Divine Remains Round Table.
“Weren’t chief deities supposed to be immortal?”
Master Theodosius had once said that the gods of the Pillar God system couldn’t die—no matter how many times they were slain, they would revive within a short time.
Olivia explained, “The Goddess of Life drew her authority from the very humans she created. When the wizards, along with most of humanity, chose to rebel against the Old Gods even at the cost of their lives, her authority was essentially stripped away.”
Lucy suddenly recalled something Mentor Fernando had once said:
“To unravel the power of law within the framework of law.”
The fate of the Goddess of Life was a direct testament to that principle.
“Never thought there was such a history.”
Lucy carefully examined the exquisitely carved relief, its metallic luster making the bone motif shine like an epic of ancient humanity’s resistance. It gave her a deeper sense of identification with the organization.
Even if there might be traitors colluding with the Outer Gods, the organization had fought for humanity since its founding.
“By the way, do you know about the ‘Star Law Codex’?”
“The Star Law Codex!”
Olivia calmly stroked her senior’s silver hair and nodded, continuing, “After humanity failed in putting the Three Pillar Gods into eternal slumber and migrated from the Old Lands, the Wizard Plane also lost the divine protection of the Old Gods’ power.”
“To prevent an invasion by Outer Gods, the first Crown Wizards forged the Codex at the cost of their souls.”
“It can sever the planar anchors of the Wizard Continent and deduce the movement directions of all planes within the Void.”
“The wizard expeditions also rely on this magical artifact.”
Simply put, the Star Law Codex and the Old Pact were like two glass domes—one large, one small.
The former sealed all the Outer Gods outside the plane, turning what was once the freely traversable Primary Plane into an isolated space.
Now, the Outer Gods could only rely on their followers to guide planar anchors through sacrificial rituals.
This also explained why the “Secret Council” sought to destroy the Codex.
Meanwhile, the latter sealed the Old Gods of the Primary Plane within the Old Lands.
Lucy shared the Secret Council’s plan with Olivia, but the latter, though briefly startled, quickly regained her composure.
“You’re not worried?”
“Would worrying even help?” Olivia replied nonchalantly. “That’s something on the scale of what someone like Master Theodosius should be thinking about. A mere trainee witch like me couldn’t possibly do anything. Oh, right—don’t you Blue Star people have a saying? ‘If the sky falls, the tallest one holds it up.’”
“Besides, instead of worrying about the end of the world someday, wouldn’t it be better to focus on the here and now?”
Suddenly flashing a mischievous smile, her hand had already slipped into Lucy’s robe.
“You little—!”
“Hee hee, it’s been half a year. Time to settle who’s really the senior!”
Olivia was feeling confident, relying on her 50 points of Mental Strength. But then she saw the corners of Lucy’s lips curl into a smile, and an even more terrifying wave of Mental Strength unfurled.
“No way!” the black-haired girl exclaimed as she was countered. “How can your Mental Strength be higher than mine!”
Lucy, having pinned her down, reached out and gave her a sly pinch.
Had she not absorbed part of those souls, she never would’ve surpassed Olivia in growth.
Thinking of it that way, she had the Realm of Death to thank for it.
Olivia gritted her teeth.
“Silver-haired demon! I didn’t just study that at the Star Law Institute!”
As she spoke, an enormous time-law clock face materialized out of thin air. With a tap of her finger, the colors in the room drained into black and white, and time came to a halt.
Olivia panted for breath.
Just as she was preparing to enjoy a little time-freeze play with the silver-haired demon, a rusted, broken scythe tore through the black-and-gray canvas of the room.
“That’s… a divine artifact of law!”
Wielding the Sickle of Harvest, Lucy firmly grabbed the wrist that had been working on unbuttoning, her face all smiles.
“What did you just call me?”
Olivia’s exclamation turned into a plea, “I called you… good senior~ I was wrong!”
Before the words even finished leaving her mouth, she turned and ran into the room.
But Lucy had no intention of letting this rebellious junior get away that easily.
“I’ll make sure you know who the real senior is!”
...
When the morning sunlight pierced through the curtains,
Olivia opened her eyes on the bed.
Her long hair was disheveled, her curled-up body slowly stretching out, a faint moan escaping her lips.
After a while, she sat up halfway, her black hair sliding off her shoulder, revealing a large swath of fair skin.
Seeing Lucy seated upright by the desk, Olivia stretched lazily again, and the bed(blanket) covering her shoulders slipped down to her waist.
Lucy, of course, knew exactly what this little rascal was trying to pull.
But after nearly an entire night of madness, doing any more would have drained her dry.
“Get up. Look at what you did to the bed, it’s a disaster.” She reached over and tousled Olivia’s hair. “Don’t forget your task is to show me around the Star Law Institute. I also need to report to Master Theodosius afterward.”
“You say that like you didn’t wreck the bed too.” Olivia rolled her eyes. “Anyway, it’s not like there’s any rush to report to Master Theodosius…”
Lucy blushed.
In matters like this, she really was on the losing end most of the time.
