    [SAMANTHA’s Point of View]

    “W-What’s happening?”

There was dread on Dominic’s face as I looked at him while he watched Olivia down the tower. Olivia seemed to gather her shadow werewolves outside the barrier that the moonstone underneath the clock tower created, but my wolf instinct told me that something was happening there, and we shouldn’t underestimate what Olivia could do in that situation.

“Brianne is with her,” Dominic uttered under his breath. His face was like a stone; his jaw was stiff as his eyes focused on them. I could feel the tension inside the room as Liam approached us and looked down to check out what was happening.

"She still has Brianne," Liam said, his chest tense as if he was holding his breath at what he saw. “I know Killian woulde and find her here soon. We have to warn him not to go alone. He can’t fight those shadow werewolves on his own, Dominic. We need to send someone to tell him to get backups so we can figure out how to drive all these demons away from the tower.”

“I don’t think we have time.”

“What do you mean, Alpha Dominic? You told you they can’t—”

We were all shocked when the floor of the tower started to quake terribly. The sound of the creaking, nking and rumbling of the building brought a different kind of terror in me that I ran straight to my kids and shielded them with my body. Before I knew it, Dominic was already leaning above me too, protecting me from the ceiling that was about to copse above us.

“Dominic! What is happening?!” I asked, trying to calm the kids down when Devon and Diana started to cry in fear. “Why is the clock tower shaking?!”

“They prated the barrier,” Dominic answered through gritted teeth. “They found a way to deactivate the protection of the moonstone.”

I frowned, unable to believe what I heard. “What?! But how?! I thought there was nothing that could destroy this barrier against the shadow werewolves?! How did Olivia discover that she is able to get inside?

Dominic stared at me as if telling me that I already knew the answer and my eyes widened.

    My jaw dropped.

    No.

“No, that is impossible.” I shook my head as my eyes went teary. “No! Brianne can’t betray us! She can’t do that to Killian. She knows Killian is on our side!”

Dominic’s eyes sharpened, but he didn’t try to argue with me anymore. I knew that he was trying to make sense of what was happening, but what if Brianne really betrayed us? What if she finally decided to side with Olivia?

    What happened to Brianne?

“I will go down and see what is happening,” he said in his fierce, deep tone after he made sure that the ceiling wouldn’t fall and that the quaking had finally stopped.

Liam rushed to him with a pale face as he shook his head slightly at my husband, stopping him from going towards the door. “No, Alpha Dominic. I don’t think you should go down there. I saw the shadow werewolves and Olivia had breached the barrier and it’s too dangerous now to leave Luna and the kids.”

“It’s okay, Dominic.” I swallowed the lump in my throat as I felt the heavy tension in the air. I could feel Liam’s and the kid’s panic as I tried my hardest to stay calm in the situation. The kids and I can stay here. You go and do what you have to do.”

“Are you sure about that?” Dominic nced at me; worry and fear glinted in his eyes despite hiding it with that dark expression on his face. “I never expected this to happen. I miscalcted it and didn’t know Brianne—”

“We are not sure yet how Olivia got inside the barrier, Dominic. I think it is better not to use Brianne of what happened. Olivia must have forced her to do it and you should know that.”

There was guilt on my husband’s face as he sighed and then walked towards me to kiss me on the forehead. “I will be back. Just as I always promised.”

I held his hand and squeezed it, our eyes locked to each other as if we never wanted to let go. But my hands slipped from him as he stepped away and then headed straight to the doors.

Despite my fears, I nodded at Dominic when he gave me onest nce before he left the room after he gave Liam more instructions and then disappeared.

“Mom, I’m scared!” Diana sobbed as she hid her face on my shirt. “What if Dad doesn’te back?!”

“He wille back!” Devon’s face was red as he wiped his tears with the back of his hand, trying to look brave. “He wille back, Diana. He promised us!”

“Yes, sweetheart,” I kissed the tops of Diana and Devon’s heads as I pulled them both closer to me. “Dad wille back no matter what. “He will fulfill his promise to us all no matter what.”

My heart was racing, and I didn’t know what was happening down in the building, so I asked Liam with a steady voice. I never wanted the kids to hear about my fear. “What is the status now, Liam? Have you called more backups? Is there any more news about Dominic and Killian?

Liam looked calm, but I could tell he was tense inside as he nced at me. Samantha, I’m trying to find out where Killian is, but no one from the border units can help. And Dominic is still with the Gamma guards downstairs trying to stop the shadow werewolves from getting up here. He told me through mindlink that we shouldn’t go anywhere unless he says so.”

“Mom, is Dad okay?” Diana asked with a worried voice, scared for what was happening. I knew Diana had sharp instincts, and she could tell the dangers around her right away. And if she was worried like this, I knew something not good was happening.”

Her eyes were red with tears.

I bent down to wipe Diana’s eyes with my fingers and then smiled nervously at her. I didn’t know what to say so I just sighed and then bit my lip hard before I uttered. “Everything will be okay, Diana, Devon. Your father is doing his best to protect us and the pack from the shadow werewolves and Olivia. We will be okay.”

The bracelet that Dominic gave me started to feel hot against my skin. We had the same bracelet we wore to know in case any of us were in danger and feeling it burning on my skin made my heart and mind panic. Devon and Diana must have noticed the dread on my face as blood drained in it and they started to feel worried again.

“What is happening, Mom!?” Devon was getting hysterical, scared to lose his father. “He is in danger, right?!”

I couldn’t think straight. Leaving the kids would be a huge risk even if Liam were here. I knew Liam would give his life to protect that kids but Dominic—I felt that my husband needed me.

    “Samantha–”

“I know,” I cut Liam’s next words as I saw how his face grew pale as well. He knew. He knew that Dominic was in danger and didn’t know what to do.

“You are needed here,” I said to him as I ced my hands on his shoulder to calm him down. Liam was a strong wolf but his asset was not his strength but his mind. He was a great strategist when it came to war and his ns and his advice to his Alpha were always top-notch.

“It should be me who have to go—”

"No," I felt bad for cutting him off each time he spoke, but we had no time for further exnation. “You know that the whole unit all over the territory needs you; Liam and I can’t risk you going out there and getting killed. I will go. I will check the situation with my husband about what is happening and I need you to keep Diana and Devon safe. No matter what.”

“But Dominic said you never leave the tower, Samantha! He will kill me!”

“I guess you have to fear me more than your own Alpha, Liam.” I gave him a threatening re. “Because if you won’t let me out of that door, I swear I will kick your *ss outside the windows and make you fly down this tower.”

That made Liam flinch and then he nodded as he stared at me with wide eyes. “I understand,” he murmured with fear in his voice as he went to the kids. “Stay close to uncle, Diana, Devon.”

“You understand why Mommy has to leave, right?” I asked Diana and Devon with teary eyes. “I never want to go, but Moomy have to—”

“It’s okay, Mom,” Devon answered with a fierce look on his face. “Diana and I understand what is happening. Dad needs you. You have to go and make sure we will all get out of this tower alive.”

I couldn’t believe Devon just called Dominic “Dad” for the very first time.

My son’s words brought a smile to my face as I kissed him and Diana and embraced both of them before I went to the door and nced back to give them onest look. My heart was swelling; I was scared to go, but I had no choice.

“I will be back with your dad. I promise.”
