Second Opinion Time!
-x-X-x-
"I don't think we should do it right now."
Wanda's face immediately falls and Thaddeus reaches out and puts a hand over hers.
"I'm not saying never, Wanda. But we should probably at least be dressed before we do anything. More than that though, I think we need a second opinion."
Glancing down at herself and then both of them, Wanda blushes and nods. Yeah, Thaddeus can tell that she doesn't want to give her brother a full frontal (or have him see Rogue and Thaddeus naked) anymore than Thaddeus does.
Though, her brow furrows on his other point.
"A… second opinion?"
Thaddeus nods, even as Rogue pipes up from off to the side.
"Maybe Mystique?"
Wanda immediately blanches at that.
"No! Not her… I don't… I don't trust her."
Rogue blinks while Thaddeus tilts his head to the side. Admittedly, his and Mystique's relationship was a bit fraught with mistrust as well. The last time they'd interacted had been when Thaddeus effectively maneuvered Mystique into a position where she was 'forced' to leave Rogue behind at Empire State University so that the younger mutant could live a normal life. Or as normal as one could live when in his orbit, anyways.
She wouldn't have been his first choice for a second opinion either, but to hear Wanda be so vehemently against it did make him curious. Rogue too, judging by the way the goth girl leans forward.
"Wait, why don't you trust her? I thought you were still with the Brotherhood, Wanda."
Flinching, Wanda looks down at her hands for a moment.
"I… I don't know. I guess I technically am, but ever since what happened with… with my father and the X-Men, I've been trying to pull away. It's part of why Pietro and I were fighting so much. Mystique… Mystique probably does know something about Pietro and his death. But I just don't want to let her know we're even thinking about bringing him back…"
Thaddeus glances at Rogue, who just shrugs helplessly. Neither of them know as much as Wanda here, Thaddeus because he'd rejected the Brotherhood ages ago and Rogue because Mystique had clearly been keeping her sheltered and a little bit ignorant. That's why it was so easy to peel the goth mutant off of the shapeshifter in the first place.
"Alright so not Mystique. Maybe Emma then? I trust her with everything and while she might not have any actionable information about Pietro's murder, she can at least give us her thoughts on the idea of bringing him back to life and any consequences that we might not have thought of."
Rogue slowly nods while Wanda just looks uncertain.
"I don't know this Emma… but if you trust her, then I guess I trust you. I just want Pietro back… no matter what it takes."
Yeah, that's what Thaddeus was worried about. There was still every possibility that Wanda would try to go off on her own and do it herself even if Thaddeus and Rogue refused to help her out. So… ya know, hopefully they could avoid that.
Pulling out his phone, Thaddeus places a call to Emma, one that's answered in moments. He quickly puts it on speaker. Sure, he could have contacted Emma telepathically given how far both their ranges extended now, but that did run the risk of being picked up by other telepaths. Meanwhile, their phones SHOULD be secure by this point, all things considered.
"Hey Emma, you're on speaker and I'm here with Rogue and Wanda."
"Oh? Am I to assume that last night was a resounding success?"
Thaddeus chuckles and shrugs even if Emma can't see it.
"I'd say it went well. Wanda sure isn't complaining."
His light teasing causes Wanda to blush and avert her gaze for a moment, but she DOES have a small involuntary smile playing on the edge of her lips all the same.
"Good, very good. So to what do I owe this pleasure?"
Wincing, Thaddeus hesitates for a moment… and then just explains everything at hand. Silence reigns as he talks, neither Rogue nor Wanda nor even Emma interjecting or interrupting. The story sounds absolutely insane… but then, that was basically just Thaddeus' life now.
Finally, he's done talking and after a moment to process, Emma lets out a low 'hmm'. Wanda, who it turns out has been getting impatient throughout all of this, immediately leans towards the phone.
"What? What's that 'hmm' for? Do you know anything?"
Emma's voice, when it comes through again, is noticeably frostier as she directs it towards Wanda.
"No Ms. Maximoff, I can honestly tell you I don't know anything about your brother's death or who killed him. Not anything specific or concrete anyways. The assassination of a speedster of your brother's caliber however… it would have been done by true professionals. An organization with a lot of power, if not government backing."
Wanda nods, eyes wide.
"Yes! That's what I said!"
"And that means bringing him back will have consequences, no matter what. Unless you intend to have him continue to feign death forever, whoever killed him in the first place will discover he lives once more and respond accordingly."
Lips pursed into a thin line, Wanda clenches her hands into fists on top of her knees.
"… I don't care about that. I won't let his killers win by being too afraid to reverse what they've done. And maybe… maybe we can hide him. Give him a new identity. Send him somewhere safe?"
"Perhaps. That is well within my resources to be clear, and therefore within Thaddeus' resources as well."
Wanda looks at him hopefully at that, only for Emma to cut her legs out from under her.
"However, you must ask yourself a simple question… will your brother consent to this idea of 'private witness protection'? If he was killed because he got too close to some mysterious truth… well, you know him best Ms. Maximoff. Will Pietro stop once he realizes his aims cost him his life, or will he keep going?"
Freezing in place, Wanda looks both hunted and haunted for a long moment… before her shoulders finally slump.
"He… he'll keep going. Especially if it was important enough for them to kill him over it."
"Indeed. Hence my 'hmm'. I have no doubt that you three can do whatever you set your minds to… and with Thaddeus helming the venture, I trust it will succeed with minimal issues. However, the consequences of resurrecting your brother will likely come afterwards. You should be ready for them, Ms. Maximoff. There's no use in pretending they don't exist."
When Wanda doesn't respond, just hunching in on herself and biting her lower lip, Emma redirects her attention back to him.
"Thaddeus. What is your gut telling you about all of this?"
Blinking, Thaddeus quickly realizes what she means… she's talking about his Super Luck.
"Uhh… so far so good? Nothing feels… off, I guess?"
"Hm. Well then, consider that a potential barometer for how good or bad this could be for you specifically. If the universe itself conspires to stop you from walking down this path, then maybe it's not a good idea. However, if we are to believe that Lady Luck had a hand in Wanda's arrival in your life, then maybe you are on the correct path after all."
That… that was a good point. Thaddeus definitely hadn't gotten the feeling at any point that he was 'done' with Wanda or whatever. And there'd been no moment where his Luck had acted up to try and get him to flee from her or send her away either.
"… Thank you for your advice Emma. I think we're going to try it… to bring Pietro back. I'll keep you up to date on what happens."
"Of course Thaddeus. Also you should be happy to know that our recent… acquisitions are all doing well. I will talk to you about that later though."
Acquisitions… meaning the Black Widows and the Black Widow Trainees. Alright, that was good to hear and yeah, Thaddeus would like to check up on all of them eventually.
"Roger that. Speak soon."
With that, the conversation comes to an end. Thaddeus looks to see Rogue staring at Wanda, and Wanda looking a mix of troubled and still hopeful.
"Well… that wasn't exactly conclusive but like I told Emma, I think we should try anyways. You want to bring your brother back still, right Wanda?"
Biting her lower lip, Wanda nevertheless nods.
"Y-Yes. Even if he… even if I can't convince him to stay safe, I won't be able to live with myself if I just let him stay dead when there's something I could do about it."
Thaddeus hums. He gets it, really he does. He's only a single child, but it's easy enough to imagine any of the important people in his life dying on him given how dangerous things can get. Sure, Madelyne can heal even the most grievous of wounds now, but death… death is something else.
Not permanent though. Not anymore with the power Wanda had and that Thaddeus had copied from her while also sharing with Rogue. The three of them… could do just about anything now if they focused and concentrated enough. Which was admittedly more terrifying than exciting for him but… at least they'd have each other's backs.
"Alright, let's all take a shower, get dressed… and maybe move this to my dorm room because Rogue's stinks of sex."
Wanda and Rogue both blush as they realize he's right. The dorm DOES smell of a distinct scent, after all and no amount of showering on each of their parts was going to change that fact.
As they finish up breakfast, Wanda clears her throat.
"W-We should… all shower together. And maybe… get one or two more boosts before we do anything?"
She fidgets and squirms as she suggests it, clearly wanting a little bit more than just 'boosts'. Thaddeus can tell that part of her is just trying to ignore her emotions through copious amounts of sex, but in the end… she's not wrong that a couple more rounds and a bit more power COULD go a long way.
In the end, they take up Wanda on her suggestion and all three of them wind up in the somewhat cramped dorm shower together. Things proceed from there with not much cleaning going on at first, followed by some hurried and rushed soaping and washing before they clamor out again.
From there, they all get dressed, though both Rogue and Wanda dress far more conservatively than they did last night. Understandable given they'd dressed for a threesome last night, not a resurrection.
Finally, they move things to Thaddeus' dorm room, which is empty on this fine Sunday morning. Sure, Laura spends a lot of her nights in his dorm these days and has been for months, but since Thaddeus was out, she clearly didn't bother last night.
Regardless, it's finally time. There's no more hesitation, no more distractions, no more procrastination. They're going to do this now and Thaddeus swallows down his remaining worries and concerns, knowing they would just fall on deaf ears anyways.
"Ready?"
Rogue merely nods, while Wanda practically vibrates with anticipation.
"Ready!"
Thaddeus offers out his hands and a moment later the two women each take one. Then, Wanda offers her free hand to Rogue and soon they're forming an entire triangle. They don't necessarily need skin contact to do this… but it feels right all the same. Maybe a nudge from Lady Luck, or maybe just an instinct that comes with his version of Wanda's powers.
Either way, they come together both physically and mentally, reaching out with Wanda's Reality Warping Abilities at the exact same time. They join forces for lack of a better word, combining their power and start to work towards their shared goal.
Immediately, Thaddeus can tell that they were right to do this together. He can sense the multiple pitfalls that Wanda would likely have ran into if she'd tried to do this alone. Things like her first inclination being to rewrite reality so that Pietro never died in the first place were just the tip of the iceberg.
Without him and Rogue to help out with the process, Wanda would have almost certainly rushed the process and Thaddeus can feel the numerous ways that might have gone poorly for her. Things like something else coming through wearing Pietro's face, or a Pietro from another universe, or a million other very bad outcomes.
Thaddeus, with Rogue's help and also a sort of sixth sense for these dangerous possibilities, is able to help Wanda dodge them. In the end, they get it right because they're all working together and pooling not just their resources and versions of Wanda's power, but also their minds and their common sense.
The final stumble, if it can even be called one, is that as they're bringing Pietro back… they almost forget to bring him back clothed. As Pietro Maximoff returns to life on the ground before them, Thaddeus realizes that he's going to be naked and reaches out to make sure that doesn't happen mere seconds before he would have been flashed.
Instead, Pietro comes back laid out at all of their feet wearing a simple shirt and pants. He looks surprisingly okay for having just been resurrected from the dead. Peaceful even.
And then… his eyes snap open.
