CHAPTER 183: GRANDPA SONG’S RANDOM SPECULATION

From the moment Qi Jianyi told her family about proposing to Song Chengfeng’s family. She sent her family into chaos. Mr. Qi was delighted and sometimes even laughing alone. Meanwhile, Mrs. Qi had a headache thinking of the Song family reaction later while preparing the betrothal gift.

Leaving her parents to handle everything about this proposed marriage matter, Qi Jianyi sneaked out of the house to meet the man who caused this commotion.

Walking out from the back door, Qi Jianyi hurriedly stepped into Song Chengfeng’s car. With a sigh of relief, she greeted the man beside her.

"Why are you sneaking out?" Song Chengfeng asked with a small smile on his face.

Shaking her head, Qi Jianyi patted her chest. "You have no idea how chaotic this house is right now. I told my family about marrying you and dad refused at first but once he knew that you wanted to marry into our family, he was delighted. Who would’ve thought that mom will be the one who is harder to convince then?" She explained, recalling the ruckus earlier.

Song Chengfeng chuckled at her words. His face brightened as Qi Jianyi mentioned about proposing marriage to his family.

"What is Aunt He worried about?" He asked, furrowing his brows, wondering what could be the reason for Mrs. Qi to actually go against this marriage.

Glaring at him, Qi Jianyi answered, "what else will she worry about if not because afraid that your family might reject this proposal?"

Listening to her answer, Song Chengfeng raised his brows, indicating her to elaborate.

"You are an only child after all. If you marry into our family, dad surely wants our child to bear my last name. Do you think your family will allow that?" She explained, while brushing her messy hair due to sneaking out earlier.

Song Chengfeng shrugged his shoulders and casually tossed away this problem as if it wasn’t that serious.

"What’s wrong with our child bearing your last name? No matter what, they are still my child after all." In fact, Song Chengfeng’s way of thinking was not wrong. Who cares whose last name their child takes in the future? Whether it’s Song or Qi, the fact that they are Song Chengfeng and Qi Jianyi’s child remains the truth. Clearly, Qi Jianyi also shares the same thought as him.

However, their opinions generally differed with the old people. Hence the reason why Mrs. Qi fell into a dilemma.

Rolling her eyes, Qi Jianyi decided to stop this conversation and changed the topic.

"Dad said that our family will go to propose marriage to your family the day after tomorrow. I suggest you discuss it with your family first, lest they make things awkward later." Qi Jianyi said as she really wants everything to go smoothly.

Since Song Chengfeng has patiently waited for her for the past seven years, she wants to make him happy. And if by marrying him could she finally give him the assurance he needed, Qi Jianyi would gladly do so.

And she truly proves her intentions. Ever since Song Chengfeng jokingly said about waiting for her to propose, she really dared to voice it out to her family. Now, her family has accepted and supported her decision. All that was left was Song Chengfeng’s side. Whether this marriage could truly happen or not depends on how the Song family would react.

"But if your family thinks it’s shameful for a woman to propose marriage to a man then I will tell my parents and wait for your family to come instead." Qi Jianyi casually stated. She didn’t really care who married into whose family. As long as the man she married is Song Chengfeng.

Upon hearing her words, Song Chengfeng frowned and firmly rejected her idea.

"No." He uttered coldly.

"You have to come propose to me. I will marry into your family. That’s it." His tone was firm, leaving no room for doubt, and it was clear that Song Chengfeng truly intended to marry into Qi Jianyi’s family.

There was no other reason behind his words. He simply wished to belong to her, to anchor himself so securely at her side that she could never walk away from him again. For that, he chose to marry into her household, binding himself to her rather than forcing her into his.

"Okay, okay. Don’t pout like I bully you. I’ll make sure my family visits yours and no matter what, this marriage will happen. I promise okay?" Qi Jianyi relented, coaxing the thirty-year-old man who still acted like a sulking child.

She reached for his collar and tugged him closer, drawing him in until their faces nearly touched. Smiling with quiet certainty, she whispered, "How can I let go of the man who has been waiting for me? Don’t regret your decision, Song Chengfeng. Once you marry me, you will never be able to leave me!"

Her voice carried a commanding edge, a declaration that he now belonged to her. But while she was asserting her claim, Song Chengfeng’s focus had already shifted. His gaze lingered on her lips, soft and faintly pink, holding him captive for a long moment before it drifted back to her eyes.

He blinked at her, his expression innocent, and said, "I want to kiss you."

Qi Jianyi was caught off guard by his sudden words. She rolled her eyes and pushed him away, earning a dissatisfied look from him in return.

"You better think about how you’re going to tell your family about us and this marriage proposal," she reminded, her tone steady and deliberate.

Qi Jianyi could already imagine the uproar that would erupt in the Song household once the news spread. Unfortunately, she would not be there to witness their reactions with her own eyes.

Song Chengfeng, however, only nodded with easy confidence, as though it were a matter too small to worry over. Whatever the response, he would not waver.

For him, the outcome had already been decided. No matter the cost, no matter the opposition, he would marry Qi Jianyi.

...

At the Song family residence.

Grandpa Song sat on the couch, sipping his tea while speaking with his son about military matters. The conversation flowed smoothly until the moment Song Chengfeng’s name was mentioned.

"That child of yours. I heard he had gotten back together with Qi Jianyi?" Grandpa Song asked, his tone laced with suspicion.

General Song, Song Chengjun, who had just raised his teacup, almost choked on the drink. At the mention of his only son, his expression grew complicated. Song Chengfeng had been born into a strict military household, yet despite such a background, he had been somewhat indulged. He never acted like a spoiled heir, but in truth, he was treated like one.

Was there anything he ever wanted that the Song family would not give him? With Song Chengjun as his father, Song Chengfeng grew up without the need to flatter others or bow to anyone. Fortunately, he had not turned arrogant, nor had he bullied the people around him.

But indulgence had its price. He had grown stubborn. Whatever he decided upon, he pursued with unyielding resolve until it was his. And now, what he desired was Qi Jianyi.

As his father, who had allowed him such freedom since childhood, how could Song Chengjun restrain him? He may not have known what had truly happened seven years ago, but he had always respected his wife’s wishes.

Since Mrs. Song had forbidden him from interfering in their son’s relationship with Qi Jianyi, all he could do was keep silent and turn a blind eye.

"Song Chengjun, do you hear me?" Grandpa Song’s gruff voice broke through his thoughts. Song Chengjun lifted his head slowly and gave a nod.

"Why are you spacing out? I am asking you. Did you know your son and that child Jianyi have gotten back together?" This time, his tone grew heavier, demanding an answer.

Song Chengjun sighed quietly. Inwardly, he prayed that Song Chengfeng would find a way to persuade his grandfather. He knew well that once his father disapproved of something, no one could change his mind.

Yet he also trusted his son. Song Chengfeng always had a way of softening his grandfather’s heart.

"Dad." Song Chengjun finally spoke.

"Chengfeng is already old enough to know what he wants. Why are you involving yourself in his life?" His voice was steady, almost calm which made Grandpa Song huffed, glaring at his son with sharp eyes.

"What do you know? You spend all your time on military work and barely notice what happens to your own child. That boy is stubborn beyond reason. Should I not be worried he will one day return and declare he wants to marry into Qi Jianyi’s family? With how deep his infatuation runs, it is not impossible!"

Who would have thought that Grandpa Song’s random speculation would soon prove true? His so-called wild guess was already on the verge of becoming reality. But at this moment, Song Chengjun did not take his father’s words seriously. He let out a chuckle and waved the concern away.

"Dad, you are imagining things. He would never go that far." Song Chengjun shook his head, laughing lightly at his father’s unfounded worry.

Unfortunately, the one who had listened to Grandpa Song’s words was his son. Had it been his daughter-in-law instead, Mrs. Song would have taken those words to heart and quietly weighed the possibility in her mind.
