Brian stared in surprise at Jessica, who stood in the doorway wearing her pajamas. “Jessica, you’re still awak

    “You didn’t bring me milk today, and the milk in my own fridge… it doesn’t taste right,” Jessica said quickly,

    ding his gaze.

    She had no idea why she’d stayed up waiting for something so trivial. But since she’d already waited this long, she figured she might as well see it through.

    Brian’s eyes widened slightly. Jessica had actually noticed the difference.

    “I’ll get it for you right now. Just wait here!” Brian said, barely containing his excitement as he rushed iinto /ihis own apartment.

    This morning, remembering Wesley’s earlier suggestion, Brian had deliberately added a little sugar and cream to the milk he’d been bringing to Jessica’s ce.

    The difference was so subtle that you wouldn’t notice it unless Jessica drank it regrly, and it wouldn’t cause any harm to the body anyway.

    When Brian had been doing all this, he honestly hadn’t held much hope.

    Jessica had always been pretty casual about the things he brought her, so even if she did drink the milk, he figured she wouldn’t pay much attention to the taste. But Jessica had actually noticed that tiny difference.

    ‘Does this mean that despite her outward indifference, she’d actually been paying close attention to everything I brought her?‘ Brian wondered.

    The more Brian thought about it, the happier he got. By the time he grabbed his backup milk to bring to Jessica, he couldn’t hide the smile on his face.

    Jessica took the milk and had a sip, confirming it was her usual vor. Her mood instantly brightened. But then she saw Brian’s barely contained joy, and her good mood evaporated.

    “What are you smiling about?” Jessica asked. ‘Does he think my behavior is funny?‘ she thought.

    Brian quick wiped the expression off his face. “Nothing. You should go to sleep after you finish that. It’s gettingte.”

    Brian didn’t get upset about being shut out. Instead, he stood there grinning like an idiot at the closed door. ‘Wesley is right. Jessica still has feelings for him. I knew it!‘ he thought.

    When Wesley heard the news from Brian, he was genuinely happy for Brian. “Congrattions, man. Keep pushing, and we’ll have this wrapped up soon.”

    “Yeah, I will. Thanks, Dr. Finch. Once Jessica’s better, I’m giving you a huge bonus,” Brian said, clearly in a great mood.

    Wesley didn’t turn down the offer. “I’ll be waiting for it.”

    After hanging up, Wesley grabbed his jacket and headed straight to the airport.

    Sana had been on another business trip and was flying back tonight,nding at midnight. He’d seen her Instal and immediately cleared his schedule.

    At the midnight arrival gate, Sana spotted Wesley waiting for her as she wheeled her suitcase out. Despite herself, she felt a warm flutter in her chest. “It’s sote. What are you doing here?” she asked, trying to sound annoyed even though she was secretly

    touched.

    Wesley naturally took her luggage and draped the jacket he’d brought over her shoulders. He pulled her iclose /ias they started walking toward the exit. “Picking you up,” he said simply.

    “Who asked you to pick me up?” Sana made a token effort to pull away, but when it didn’t work, she just gave up.

    There was no point in fighting it since she couldn’t escape anyway. She could just go with it instead of exhausting herself. She’d always been good at rolling with the punches.

    If Wesley knew what Sana was really thinking, he’d definitely roll his eyes at her. If only she actually could let things go that easily.

    “Watch out, there’s a step here,” Wesley warned as they reached the stairs.

    Sana immediately became obedient.
