They Want Me Back When It’s Too Late
Fast Life 486
bChapter /bb486 /b
The afternoon autumn sunlight streamed through the window and fell across Brian’s slightly trembling eyshes. In the shifting light and shadows, Jessica thought she caught a glimpse of tears.
It must be my imagination,‘ Jessica thought. ‘There’s no way Brian would actually cry just because of a few harsh words from me.’
Jessica looked down, lost in thought, but didn’t dare meet Brian’s eyes again. “I’m not trying to punish myself. I just don’t want to see you. Stop bothering me, okay?”
The cold words came out of her mouth, and Jessica was almost surprised at how ruthless and heartless she could actually be. But she didn’t regret it.
Madeline’s existence would always be a thorn between her and Brian.
No matter how well Brian treated her now, as long as Madeline and her child were still around, they could never have a future together. So it was better for both of them to make things clear sooner rather thanter.
Brian’s hands trembled for a moment: Jessica’s sudden coldness caught himpletely off guard. Everything had been fine that morning, after all. But now, it seemed like their rtionship suddenly became as strained as it was before the divorce.
Infacti, /iBrian could tell it was even worse than before the divorce. At least back then, Jessica would still eat the food he brought her.
Now, watching Jessica rub her stomach from hunger while refusing to even nce at the meal he’d brought, Brian squeezed his eyes shut. “Fine, I’ll go. Jessica, get some rest.” After saying that, he took onest long look at Jessica, then took Jake’s hand and headed for the door.
Jessica looked at the meal cart still sitting in the hospital room and frowned, “The cart.”
“Leave it for Ms. Gardner,” Brian said. He had already reached the door when he paused slightly, nced back to give Sana a subtle look, then walked outpletely.
After the door closed again, Sana thought about the look Brian had just given her. She hesitated for a moment, then went over to the food cart and picked up the prepared meal. “Jessica, you should eat something. The guy might suck, but the food didn’t do anything wrong.”
Jessica didn’t say anything.
Sana tried to convince her a couple more times before Jessica finally reached out and took the te.
But instead of eating right away, she used her spoon to carefully examine the food, making sure there wasn’t anything that could harm a pregnant woman before she dared to take a bite.
“Jessica, are you afraid Mr. Atkinson is trying to hurt you?” Sana watched her cautious movements, and a thought that even she found ridiculous popped into her head.
Jessica paused mid–sip of her soup. After a few seconds, she replied with a hint of coldness in her voice. “bNot /bbecause bof /b

Jessica was just remembering what Madeline had told her before about Brian keeping a mistress. Even thought bit /bhad probably turned out to be false. After all, once Madeline’s address got leaked, the new ce she moved to bwas /bpretty shabby and definitely not something Brian would have arranged.
But Jessica couldn’t guarantee that Madeline hadn’t been visiting Brian recently.
What if she goes over there and catches Brian preparing lunch for me, then finds a chance to mess with the food?” Jessica thought. She still hadn’t forgotten about that contaminated meal that had been delivered to thepany not long agob. /b
“You think they’re still living together? But Mr. Atkinson is staying next door to iyou /inow, isn’t he?” Sana thought Jessica’s suspicion was pretty far–fetched.
“I haven’t been back theretely, so who knows what’s going on,” Jessica shot back stubbornly.
