    “Jessi, let me help you up. Don’t worry, you won’t fall,” Brian said, patting the mare to calm it. Once he was sure it was steady, he carefully helped Jessica into her riding gear and lifted her onto the horse.

    Jessica gripped the reins, looking down at Brian, a strange feeling stirring in her chest.

    Noticing her staring, Brian rubbed his face awkwardly. “Is there something on my face?”

    ‘No. You don’t have to be so careful. I took riding lessons before. I’ll be fine,” Jessica said softly, looking away. She told Brian to go pick a horse for himself.

    ‘No need. I’ll just lead yours,” Brian said, shaking his head. He gestured for her to hand over

    he reins.

    She let go, and as the reins fell, Brian caught them firmly. He led the horse toward the back of the ranch.

    essica sat on the horse, looking out at the wide grasnd, green and gold stretching out before her. She lifted a hand to tuck her scarf in ce and nced down to chat with Brian.

    She said, “The scenery here is really nice. After we check in at Cedarspan Highwayter, we cane back here for dinner.”

    Whatever you want,” Brian said without a second thought. Then he started telling Jessica about the local food nearby. He’d clearly done his homework.

    They walked and talked, and before they knew it, they’d wandered away from everyone else. There were just the two of them on the t grasnd.

    essica looked at Brian, his eyes fixed on her with such focus, and her heart softened a little. ‘Let’s take a break. It’s a igood /ichance for you to take the photo we need for the check–in.”

    Brian had been leading the horse for her all this time. ‘He must be tired. I shouldn’t keep making him do all the work,’ she thought.

    i‘/iOkay. Jessi, just hold the reins tight and turn your head back a little. I’ll handle the rest,” Brian said, carefully passing the reins to Jessica. He patted the mare gently, telling it to be good.

    “Alright, go take the photo. I’m not going to fall off,” Jessica couldn’t help urging him when

    she saw this.

    She thought, ‘He’s great in every way right now. He just fusses over me way too much.

    “Of course. Jessi, just don’t make any big moves. I’ll take it quickly,” Brian said, reluctantly pulling his hand away while reminding her again.

    He really couldn’t rx. Even though he’d picked this horse carefully and checked it over, the thought of leaving Jessica sitting on it alone made him anxious.

    ‘Got it. Go take the photo. You’re never gonna stop, are you?” Jessica teased.

    Brian sighed, but to keep Jessica from getting upset, he had to step back, holding his phone even with all his worries.

    Once he found a spot he liked, Brian squatted down right away and called out to Jessica, ‘Okay, Jessi, turn around.”

    Jessica turned at the sound.

    Brian looked at Jessica, bathed in the morning sun like she was wrapped in a golden veil. His heart raced, but he stayed focused. He quickly adjusted the camera, checked the light, focused, and hit the shutter once everything was set.

    Staring at the stunning photo of her over her shoulder on his phone, Brian thought the photography skills he’d picked up before had finally paid off.

    Even though he wanted to take more shots, Brian stood up right after getting that one.

    There will be plenty of other chances to take photoster. Right now, Jessi’s safety matters most,‘ he thought.

    Brian walked quickly back to Jessica, took the reins again, and asked, “All done. Jessi, want to keep going or head back?”

    As he spoke, he lifted a hand to rub her lower back gently.

    Jessica’s lower back was actually a bit tired. Even though she felt a little sorry to stop, she wasn’t about to take chances with her body. She looked down at Brian and said, “Let’s head
