Chapter 280 - 280 260 Undead Invincible
Chapter 280: Chapter 260: Undead, Invincible! Chapter 280: Chapter 260: Undead, Invincible! Music is a matter of personal taste.
Just because Amberser thought it was unpleasant to listen to didn’t mean the piece was genuinely so.
Being able to block three fatal injuries, Amberser would be willing to listen to it on loop for a lifetime.
The poet was also quite pleased and said to Amberser, “Although the effects can’t stack, if you’d like to listen, I could…”
Amberser decisively said, “Next time, next time I will definitely appreciate the elder’s exquisite music again. I see the time is about right, it’s time to go and arm-wrestle those goddesses.”
Just kidding, who would listen to this crap without a good reason!
Amberser directly used Traceless Step to teleport away, vanishing before everyone’s eyes.
Amberser’s departure also signaled the official start of the battle. Without wasting any time, Withered Rose said to Gareth, “This city’s layout is too intricate, unsuitable for the deployment of large forces. Gareth, I’ll have to trouble you to clear the path.”
Gareth grabbed the reins of the Eight-Legged Giant Horse and said with a laugh, “That suits me perfectly.”
The Eight-Legged Giant Horse burst into a wild gallop, charging through the wall of the temple and into the ruins of the city.
As Gareth began his charge, a violent dark aura gathered in front of him, forming a massive whirlwind that smashed everything in its path to pieces.
It didn’t matter whether it was stone or brick, walls or pillars – nothing could stand in Gareth’s way.
And that dark whirlwind, thirty meters wide, didn’t just create some narrow alleyway in its wake but rather a wide avenue after its charge.
With such a huge commotion, even if the Drow Elves were deaf and blind, they should have noticed.
But the attack was so sudden that the scattered Spider-transformed Drow stood no chance against Gareth’s onslaught and were torn to shreds by the dark whirlwind.
Previously, Gareth wanted to test the Silvermoon Knight’s abilities. It wasn’t arrogance but rather the pride that befits a pillar of shame like Laine. Sadly, the Paladin who could break a city with one sword had passed away, and Gareth had lost the chance to measure up against him.
Last time bullying the Paladin, Gareth had to hold back most of his strength for fear of killing him. This time, he charged without any reservations – a mere graze would be deadly.
Even after Gareth had charged through the entire city end to end, no one could stop him.
Then, Gareth turned his horse around, heading in another direction as if ready to destroy the entire city.
But just as he prepared to charge again, a vast shadow emerged from the ground.
It was a gargantuan black spider, several times larger than Gareth the four-meter giant.
The giant spider spat out a mass of venom at Gareth, attempting to stop this fearsome giant, but before the venom reached far, a green flame flew in and turned all the venom to nothing.
The huge Bone Dragon skimmed low in the sky, her tail whipping viciously onto the body of the giant spider, utterly smashing it.
Gareth was not fighting alone; Miss Bone Dragon had been stealthily following by his side from the start. The Bone Dragon assassin struck and took down the giant spider in one go, a significant loss for the Drow.
This group of Drow was not very powerful to begin with; otherwise, they wouldn’t have resorted to an ambush and would have directly attacked the Mercury City of Withered Rose. This giant spider was the best they had, but it stood no chance against the Legendary Undead.
Elsewhere, the battle was unfolding similarly. The Undead Army of Withered Rose followed the path carved out by Gareth, surging towards every corner of the city like a tidal wave.
The Drow Elves had no chance to fight back because the Poet was already floating mid-air above the city, playing his Lyre.
The eerie music that defied description spread throughout the Underground City, shaking every Drow Elf that heard it to their core, draining the strength from their legs.
Even Withered Rose felt fear upon witnessing this power.
Because the music was not ineffective against the Undead—it was just that the Poet had controlled his power. Otherwise, Withered Rose’s Undead Army would have met the same fate.
Withered Rose looked up at the Poet in the sky and couldn’t help but murmur to herself, “If this power could help me against Laine…”
The Elegy Poetry Society unleashed its full firepower, its destructive force terrifying. There were tens of thousands of Drow Elves in the city, but in the short ten minutes since Gareth’s charge, their numbers had likely been reduced by four or five thousand.
The battle was entirely one-sided; there was no force that could stop this horde of Undead.
It was a gap of absolute power. Even Hake Stone, the weakest Vampire, was Legendary, carving a path of sole dominance among the Drow Elves. Blood that he gathered formed dozens of blades that sliced apart all surrounding enemies – even Hake Stone found waging war alongside the great ones exhilarating. It was never this easy killing in the desert, and the blood of the Drow Elves tasted quite good too—today, he could drink his fill.
Another who was feasting was Ghoul Yugas.
Known within the Elegy Poetry Society as “Non-Vegetarian,” he was a genuinely honest friend, truly living up to his nickname. Yugas moved as fast as lightning, rampaging through the city. Any Drow Elf captured by him would have an arm or a leg torn off.
Fresh flesh nourished his gut, which had been empty for many years, giving him a momentary sense of satiety before a more intense hunger soon overtook him.
Ghouls could never be satiated, forever hungry; it was a curse, as well as the source of their strength.
Yugas ran amok, leaving behind countless mutilated bodies; the flesh and blood of numerous Drow Elves were devoured by him, all transformed into energy for his body. This speed of killing even surpassed Hake Stone by several folds.
In the midst of his feasting, Yugas’ attention was drawn by a Spider-transformed Drow covered in crimson. He stopped in his tracks, gazing curiously at this odd Spider-transformed Drow and asked, “What are you? A mutant variety?”
Spider-transformed Drow were generally greyish-black in color, but this one in front of him was entirely crimson, with many complex runes appearing around its body.
Seeing Yugas, the Spider-transformed Drow showed not the slightest fear but instead provocatively said to the Ghoul, “You Undead know nothing of the power of Deities. I shall bestow upon you supreme pain, as a sacrifice to my Goddess!”
Yugas didn’t understand his words; unlike Amberser, he wasn’t fond of reading and knew little about Deities. A Goddess related to pain? Who was that again?
Whatever, not important.
Yugas lunged at the mutant Spider-transformed Drow, tearing off one of its spider legs before it could react.
Chewing meticulously on the flesh of the severed leg with his double row of teeth, Yugas exclaimed in surprise, “Such a delicious flavor! I’ve never eaten meat this tasty!”
The Spider-transformed Drow, now missing a leg, let out an angry roar; blood light burst from the stub, rapidly regrowing a new spider leg.
It then aimed at Yugas’ distended belly and spat out a swath of sanguine spider silk.
The silk was covered with minute serrations, frantically tearing back and forth; if it landed on anyone else, it would instantly slice their body into hundreds of wounds.
This was a blessing from Rowetta, endowing the Spider-transformed Drow’s every attack with the ability to inflict severe pain on its enemies.
Whether it was their own pain or that of their enemies, both would become a source of strength for the Spider-transformed Drow, sustaining them to cast more powerful spells.
Yugas, seeing the eerie blood web, showed an excited glint in his eyes and plunged into the spider silk without any hesitation, allowing his body to be completely enveloped; the saw-like strands promptly left numerous wounds on him.
The Spider-transformed Drow thought it had successfully bound its enemy and could now easily finish him off. However, its two rows of eyes suddenly bulged, revealing an incredulous look.
The Ghoul was clearly tightly bound by the spider silk, so why was his movement unaffected, wait, he was eating his own spider silk!
Yugas easily ripped apart the spider silk, tough as steel wires, with his hands. Though there were many wounds on the Ghoul’s body, they were actually quite superficial. Yugas didn’t care about the cuts on his hands, and he grabbed the silk, stuffing it into his mouth.
As he ate, he exclaimed loudly, “So fragrant, truly delicious! Drow, you smell so good!”
Yugas devoured the large web in just a few bites, then, blood-soaked, he lunged at the Spider-transformed Drow again.
This time, he broke off eight spider legs, causing the creature’s body to collapse powerlessly to the ground.
Yugas stood atop the Spider-transformed Drow, devouring the furry spider legs with big bites.
“Delicious, really delicious!”
He had received Rowetta’s blessing; why couldn’t he defeat even a single Ghoul?
Blood was spurting from the wounds as new spider legs were being regenerated, the intense pain bringing strength. This would usually be a good thing, but now, every time new legs emerged, Yugas would snap them off and stuff them into his mouth again.
The Ghoul was doing this deliberately; he was keeping the creature alive just so he could keep eating.
The Spider-transformed Drow wanted to cry, as the Goddess’s gift had become his greatest torment.
Yugas had indeed shown mercy; this creature was simply too delectable, and he really wanted a few more bites. Regardless of how the Spider-transformed Drow struggled, all kinds of evil spells had no meaning to Yugas.
What he enjoyed was the divine power of Rowetta within the Drow; so, anything conjured with this power was a delicacy to him.
Thorn whip? Delicious, resilient!
Curse of Fragility? Spicy, stimulating!
Mana Burst? Right into my mouth!
…
Energy or material, as long as it contained Rowetta’s power, Yugas accepted it all, devouring as much as was available. His body seemed completely immune to these attacks, and he ate the Spider-transformed Drow to the point of exhaustion; even the blessing runes on its body vanished.
Sensing the dissipation of Rowetta’s divine energy, Yugas was quite displeased as he bit off the Drow’s head and then swallowed it in just a few bites.
“There should be more than one blessed by the four Goddesses! I want to eat more!”
Yugas charged into the darkness, searching for the next enemy blessed by a Deity.
