Thousands of Brilliant Stars: You Deserve the Best!
Chapter 11: She Can Die Again!
CHAPTER 11: CHAPTER 11: SHE CAN DIE AGAIN!
Regarding Lachlan Wyatt’s use of terms like "baby" and the like, Iris Crawford listened without any emotional ripple.
He’s someone who can casually speak of love anytime, anywhere; lies are as commonplace to him as daily meals.
You must deceive yourself before you can deceive others.
Is lying against the law? No, it’s not, so even if Lachlan Wyatt is lying, Iris Crawford doesn’t have the leisure to correct him. Besides, to her, Lachlan Wyatt’s lies are beneficial; as long as he lies, she doesn’t have to take responsibility for him.
So Iris Crawford chuckled softly and said affectionately to Lachlan Wyatt, "Young Master Wyatt, when you called me ’baby,’ I almost believed it!"
"Self-awareness is a good thing."
Lachlan Wyatt grinned, overshadowing his surroundings, while a shadow fell over his eyes.
The man released her, then turned and went to the bedroom. Iris Crawford still felt the warmth of his recent pressure against her, and only when he let her go did she realize her tightly clenched fingers were trembling slightly.
Watching Lachlan Wyatt’s departing figure, Iris Crawford withdrew her gaze. Just then, her phone buzzed—someone was trying to reach her.
Upon unlocking the phone, she discovered a text message had arrived.
"Iris Crawford, are you still alive?"
This was a message from an unknown sender. Iris glanced at her phone screen, realizing how quickly someone had grown restless since her return to the country... She returned to the computer in her study and sent a screenshot of the message in the chat interface.
Someone immediately called in. On the other end was a gentle, jade-like male voice, seemingly smiling.
"Birdie, need me to investigate anything?"
"This phone number..." Iris Crawford had her phone wedged between her cheek and shoulder, freeing up both hands to type on the keyboard. The posture accentuated a particularly graceful shoulder curve, and the woman curled her lips, "I need to check it out."
"Let me help you."
"No need, Chestnut." Iris Crawford’s fingers flew across the keyboard, several windows popping up on the screen in quick succession, "I hacked in. I can find out whose name this phone number is under with just a quick search."
James Chesterton, on the other end, was momentarily speechless, also searching, "How are you faster than me? I shouldn’t have taught you so much in the beginning..."
"No way, your renowned name is known far and wide; who would dare wield a knife in front of the world’s top network engineer? My mere trivial techniques are but a tribute to you."
Why is her flattery making him uneasy? James Chesterton instinctively felt something amiss, "Whose IP address did you use when you invaded?"
"Yours."
"...I knew it." This time when trouble arises, it’s his responsibility! Why did he ever take on this apprentice?!!!
As expected, in the next second, his other work phone rang.
"Chesterton, good evening. We’ve just had a hacker attack on our back-end... But how come the IP address is yours, what’s..." The technical team was calling Chesterton to double-check.
James Chesterton had trouble explaining, "Yes, it’s me... just accidentally hacked in for a look."
...That was certainly quite an accident.
"Chesterton, if you want to find out something, why not just ask directly? Since you programmed our firewall, what’s the point?" The team member teased, "Is it that you’re checking our security defenses after so long?"
Hey, this naive sweetheart, he’s already got a reason figured out for him.
James Chesterton immediately replied, "Yes, I’m here to check your work."
Iris Crawford, listening in from the other phone, couldn’t help but laugh. As long as there’s any trouble, James Chesterton’s got it covered; the entire Red Guest circle has to give him some face.
The woman laughed while pulling up the identification information, and sure enough, the name Yvonne Jennings popped into view.
Noticing Iris Crawford’s pause in conversation, James Chesterton also found the information and pulled up the records interface almost simultaneously, saying, "Isn’t this..."
"I guessed it right." Iris Crawford toyed with her red nails, her slender fingers seeming to pull nonexistent strings in the air, letting out a haughty laugh, "Guilty as a thief, can’t even stay put for long..."
Yvonne Jennings was still probing her true identity, so she sent a message to Iris Crawford’s old number to test if Iris Crawford was still alive. Iris hadn’t changed her phone, so she could naturally receive the messages.
Dead?
Iris Crawford curled her lips in a cold smile. Yes, dead, the old Iris Crawford is long gone.
But the experiences back then were enough for her to die once and then be reborn from the ashes; she pocketed her phone, pushing open the bedroom door without turning back.
Now, there’s nothing left to fear.
Closing the message, Iris Crawford maintained the posture of holding the phone between her shoulder and cheek, her eyes flashing with cunning.
Since Yvonne Jennings is so eager to know whether she’s really the pitiful fat woman from before, why not accompany her in this game...
Meanwhile, in the Jacobs Family, after sending the text, Yvonne Jennings kept a close eye on the phone screen. If that woman was indeed Iris Crawford...then she’d certainly receive the message and have some reaction!
But five minutes passed without any reply, not even a denial.
Yvonne Jennings’ heart was on edge, and beside her, Jordan Jacobs’s expression wasn’t good either. Their wedding day had been disrupted; who could still laugh about it? Especially when he chased that strange woman to Iris Crawford’s doorstep and was doused with cold water. Now his anger was compounded, and the two sat on the sofa, each harboring their own thoughts.
Unwilling to accept no response, Yvonne Jennings stared at Jordan Jacobs, "Can you believe that woman is Iris Crawford?"
To be honest, Jordan Jacobs wasn’t sure either, "I chased her and found she returned to Iris Crawford’s old house, but Lachlan Wyatt said he bought this house..."
"She’s still living in Iris Crawford’s old house?!"
Yvonne Jennings was visibly flustered. If it truly were Iris Crawford, then the kidnapping case from two years ago, the hidden truth, would soon be exposed, and the two of them would be roasted by public opinion!
Yvonne Jennings clutched the sofa pillow in anger, "Jacobs, think of something! If Iris Crawford jumps out and reveals the truth from back then, what’ll happen to our reputations?"
"We aren’t even sure if she’s truly Iris Crawford yet!"
Jordan Jacobs gritted his teeth, perhaps recalling the closed door he encountered at Lachlan Wyatt’s place, "The old Iris Crawford couldn’t even say no when she saw me..."
But now, the woman full of vigor before him was entirely different from the old Iris Crawford; is it possible they are the same person?
The probability was far too low... Even if they were the same person, how did Iris Crawford survive back then?
The doubts are piling up; they can’t make rash moves!
Upon hearing this, Yvonne Jennings pursed her lips, her previously graceful face revealing hints of viciousness, "No problem, I can find someone to confirm if she’s truly Iris Crawford..."
Jordan Jacobs frowned, "What are you planning now?"
"No one can ruin my marriage!" Yvonne Jennings suddenly stood from the sofa as a thought flashed through her mind, "Whether it’s a ghost come back for revenge or just trying to trick me... I’ll find out with some investigation."
Even if she truly is Iris Crawford... she’ll still make her die again! This time thoroughly!
