Chapter 12: This Woman Has No Shame!
CHAPTER 12: CHAPTER 12: THIS WOMAN HAS NO SHAME!
After two years, upon returning to her own home, Iris Crawford had her first good night’s sleep. When she awoke, the sky outside was just right, with sunlight streaming warmly through the gaps in the curtains.
Iris shielded her eyes with her hand, taking a deep breath. The tangible feeling of being alive slowly spread through her entire body.
As she walked out of the bedroom, she saw Lachlan Wyatt in the kitchen preparing breakfast. He was skillfully plating food, and when he heard the sound, he looked up at Iris on the second floor. Their eyes met, and at first glance, they seemed like a newlywed couple.
Only Iris knew how cold and selfish this man truly was. He was accustomed to remaining aloof and putting on a façade. Don’t be fooled by his smile now; who knows if he’ll stab you the next second.
She and he were just mutually benefiting and exploiting one another. When Lachlan saved her back then, it was also a conditional exchange. Iris had always been aware of the fact that Lachlan was no good guy.
Iris’s survival was not public knowledge, and so now she held an assistant title under Lachlan Wyatt Technologies as an exchange for his life-saving grace. She also had to help him with some tasks.
Clenching her fingers, Iris took a deep breath. At the moment, she wouldn’t defy Lachlan. So, she went down and greeted him, "Morning."
"Morning." Lachlan sat down at the table, pouring milk. Generously, he poured a glass for Iris as well and made two plates of pasta, pushing one towards Iris.
Iris looked at Lachlan skeptically, "Did you poison it?"
Lachlan squinted his eyes, "I did. If you have the guts, don’t eat it."
Iris picked up a fork. She never improved her cooking skills. In the past, to please Jordan Jacobs, she always sought ways to make herself appear more domestic by learning to bake various pastries.
In the end, her cooking didn’t improve, her marriage failed, and she almost got kidnapped and killed. From then on, she stopped trying to please others.
However, Lachlan was quite smart, picking up cooking skills at a glance.
As Iris ate the pasta Lachlan made, she took out her phone and glanced at it. After the text message from yesterday, Yvonne Jennings hadn’t bothered her again. She raised an eyebrow, "From what I know, is someone from Jordan Jacobs’s side coming to discuss business today?"
"Yes." After swallowing, Lachlan took a sip of milk before replying leisurely. He always carried an inherent laziness and elegance, living in his own world, never caring about others’ existence, "They should send a representative. We’ve had a collaboration recently, so he sent me a wedding invitation to please me."
No wonder they showed Lachlan so much respect at the wedding. After all, the Jacobs Family is no second-rate entity, yet they tolerate Lachlan so much... Jordan Jacobs, do you also have people you need to please?
Iris had an idea in her mind. After finishing breakfast, she needed to go to work with Lachlan. For the past two years, she was ostensibly Lachlan’s secretarial assistant, with rumors circulating that he kept a lover in the international branch—she was the so-called lover.
She kept pace in her high heels as she followed Lachlan out, and adeptly sat in the passenger seat.
Lachlan had grown accustomed to these familiar actions of hers. Over the past two years, while abroad, Iris lived at his place and spent time with him. Being a man and a woman alone, occasionally, Lachlan would give her meaningful looks at her impressive figure, "How did Jordan Jacobs not realize you were a hidden gem?"
Iris straightened her back, "I don’t know either. After losing weight, I found my bust didn’t shrink."
Stepping on the gas pedal, Lachlan drove off in the flashy armored George Patton.
He preferred driving big vehicles to work, the kind of huge and imposing tank-like cars. The license plate was a special one, and when he hit the road, it was just missing a security convoy following him, always drawing attention from onlookers.
Lachlan was not someone who enjoyed being low-key. He even pressed the car window down, wearing sunglasses, his clean-cut profile with a high straight nose was easily recognizable by passersby as a wealthy and handsome guy.
During these times, Iris would consciously put on a mask.
She didn’t want the spotlight.
Being watched all the way to the company, Iris got out of the car. This was her first time joining Lachlan in his domestic company, which could be considered a "parachuted" assistant secretary role, certainly sparking no small discussion. As expected, as soon as she appeared, whispers began echoing throughout the office.
"Who’s that woman?"
"Such a great figure... not at all scrawny..."
"Looks like President Wyatt has good taste after all, at least he doesn’t like bony types..."
"I heard he had a woman by his side abroad, could it be her?"
"Could she have backdoor access?"
"Tsk tsk... let’s see what she’s got."
Various eyes sized up Iris from her back. In the past, she would have been too nervous to speak, but now she just smiled coldly and elegantly before getting into the senior executive elevator. As the doors slowly closed, the last sight was a woman’s alluring gaze, tinged with sarcasm.
Sitting outside Lachlan’s office, Iris arranged her desk, clocked in, and turned on her computer. She was just about to properly hand over her tasks when footsteps sounded outside. Before she could look up to see who it was, the footsteps approached her rapidly.
A woman with a somewhat decent face approached, holding documents, glaring at her with raised eyebrows, "You’re the new one here?"
After saying that, she looked Iris up and down several times. Ever since this woman arrived, her original secretary position had been revoked and replaced with another administrative assistant... she had hoped to get closer to Young Master Wyatt, but now that wish had directly vanished, and she was reassigned to another department because of this woman!
Iris took a glance at the badge hanging around the woman’s neck, which read, Roxanne Young; could she have been the previous position holder?
With a slight curl of her lips, Iris extended her hand, her slender fingers adorned with bright red, pretty nails, "Yes, I’m the new one. Hello."
"I’m here for the handover," Roxanne didn’t take Iris’s outstretched hand. Seeing her lazily reclining on her chair made her angry, intending to give her a tough start. Biting her lip, she said, "Do you know what the primary task of a secretary is? You have to assist with all of Young Master Wyatt’s affairs, including his meals, drinks, and ordering food..."
"Am I supposed to help him undo his pants in the bathroom?"
Iris directly interrupted Roxanne.
Roxanne’s face turned red, "Shameless, how could you say something like that!"
"I thought you hired a nanny." Iris remained calm, opening her computer to start playing Minesweeper as she said, "I won’t handle anything unrelated to work. He can eat and drink by himself; he’s not handicapped."
"You!" Roxanne had never seen such an audacious secretary and couldn’t accept losing such a good position to someone this arrogant. Furiously, she exclaimed, "Do you think being a secretary is that easy? Didn’t you just come in through the backdoor?"
Iris was busy with Minesweeper, not even raising her head, "Mm-hmm."
Roxanne was stupefied. She originally thought those who took advantage of connections were extremely vain and sought to wound her pride, but she didn’t expect Iris to boldly admit it. So, she repeated, "Really through a backdoor?"
"Yep." Iris responded sincerely, "Why don’t you go and have a talk with him? I don’t like working either. You can have the job."
Who likes being a corporate slave anyway, having to watch his mood every day?
Roxanne almost fainted from anger, "Do you know what you’re saying?"
How dare she so brazenly admit to coming in through a backdoor? Does this woman have no sense of shame!
