CHAPTER 123: CHAPTER 123: PUPPY ASSISTANT, LACHLAN WYATT GETS JEALOUS!

Lachlan Wyatt waited downstairs for more than half an hour before he saw Iris Crawford leisurely pushing open the villa’s door.

Today was quite unlike her usual self; typically, she carries herself like a charming seductress, but today she appeared rather like a wealthy lady.

Dressed in a Chanel suit, wearing thick high heels that weren’t too sharp, carrying a chic little handbag on her wrist, her hair pinned up at the back of her head with just a few strands left along the sides of her cheeks, she gave off an extraordinarily noble yet slightly delicate and tender aura, perfectly balancing her overly powerful presence.

As Lachlan Wyatt watched Iris Crawford approaching, his Adam’s apple moved involuntarily.

When Iris Crawford saw his car, she pulled down her sunglasses, looked up at Lachlan Wyatt, "What are you doing here?"

"I told you yesterday, I’d drive you to work."

Lachlan Wyatt licked his lips with a calm expression, as if the woman in front of him was prey in his mouth; at this moment, Iris Crawford felt as though she’d been bitten and chewed up in Lachlan Wyatt’s mind, "Why this sudden attentiveness?"

"To win you over."

Lachlan Wyatt got out of the car and opened the door, "Get in, I’ll take you there."

"Aren’t you in a hurry to get to your own company?"

Iris Crawford didn’t refuse; having a free driver was a rare treat. So, she smoothly settled into the passenger seat, watching Lachlan Wyatt start the car, "You sure have time to spare to drive me."

"This way you won’t need to run around outside; what if some clueless brat wants to drive you to work?" Lachlan Wyatt sneered with a charmingly cool demeanor, "I’d like to see who dares to take an interest in you."

"They don’t dare to pursue me, but I can take an interest in them."

With an air of self-satisfaction, Iris Crawford adjusted her sitting posture, letting Lachlan Wyatt accelerate, as if their relationship had returned to its initial state, "I’m not your property; you can’t guard against it."

"What do you mean?"

Lachlan Wyatt pressed the accelerator, laughing in infuriation, "Iris Crawford, you’re quite bold now, trying to provoke me?"

"Exactly."

Iris Crawford glanced at her phone to check for any messages, then looked at Lachlan Wyatt’s profile, "You don’t get to decide everything."

This remark left a strange feeling in Lachlan Wyatt’s heart.

Indeed, it was he who tried to warn Iris Crawford not to fall in love with him.

Now he’s doing everything he can to woo her.

What is this?

Hitting his own face.

Lachlan Wyatt tugged at the corner of his mouth; this woman could not be treated perfunctorily at all. Other women would bow their heads willingly; they might get coaxed until they lost their sense. But Iris Crawford is different; she calculates love and hate clearly, allowing no muddling in her emotions.

A clear-headed woman is the hardest to deal with.

After those remarks, they both fell into silence until Lachlan Wyatt drove her to the company entrance, where Orion Crawford just happened to be waiting for his sister but ended up seeing Lachlan Wyatt’s flashy car and the obnoxious license plate number. Orion Crawford could guess whose car it was just with his knee.

The protective brother immediately told the guard beside him, "See that car with the plate number four fours? Whenever you see this car, chase it out. It isn’t allowed in!"

Guard: "...Why is that, Young Master Crawford?"

"Do you need so many reasons!" Orion Crawford, usually gentle and upright, now turned rather unreasonable, "I don’t like the look of him!"

"...Understood."

Orion Crawford sharpened his knife towards Lachlan Wyatt while Iris Crawford got off the car like a star, graceful as ever.

When she reached Orion Crawford, he glared at the car behind, the driver’s side window lowered to reveal a dazzlingly handsome face. The owner of the face cheekily waved at Orion Crawford.

Orion Crawford was exceedingly annoyed and said, "Why is this dog sending you to work?"

Iris Crawford replied, "He came to pick me up at my doorstep."

"What bad luck!" Orion Crawford pulled his sister behind him and heard Lachlan Wyatt in the car slightly raise his voice, "Call me after work; I’ll pick you up."

Goodness, he’s offering full service transport!

No one gives kindness without a purpose; either they’re thieves or robbers! Orion Crawford walked up and kicked lightly at Lachlan Wyatt’s car door, "This place isn’t under your jurisdiction, you’re not welcome here!"

"It’s no use even if I’m not welcome." Lachlan Wyatt pointed at Iris Crawford, "I’m pursuing your sister, so you stay out of it and don’t mess with me, alright."

Orion Crawford was nearly driven crazy by Lachlan Wyatt and raised his hand intending to reach through the car window to punch him; then he saw his watch, realizing the workday was about to start.

Orion Crawford’s principle: never late, never leave early.

So, gritting his teeth, he retracted his hand, "I’ll settle scores with you later!" With a 180-degree turn, he returned to his sister, pinching her nose, "Avoid Lachlan Wyatt, you hear? No going back to old flames after breaking up."

Iris Crawford couldn’t stop laughing, "I won’t let myself suffer losses again, rest assured."

Once work started, the entire Crawford Group received a notification — The Crawford Family parachuted in a female CEO, unclear about their abilities, but she certainly looked like a pretty face.

Orion Crawford sent his secretary to bustlingly help Iris Crawford set up an office and even assigned her a new assistant who had just graduated from A-University, "He recently interviewed here, diligent in his work, let him be your intern assistant."

Iris Crawford whistled, eyeing the newcomer like a female thug, "What’s your name?"

The lad’s face immediately flushed, "Steven Rhodes..."

Steven Rhodes?

Iris Crawford found the name a bit familiar but didn’t dwell on it. She just stepped forward and gently patted Steven Rhodes on the shoulder, "How old are you this year?"

"Nineteen." Steven answered quickly, "I’m studying at A-University and currently managing both my studies and an internship."

"That’s impressive." Iris turned to Orion Crawford and clicked her tongue in wonder. This intern seemed like he came from a modest background, but his features were decent, his demeanor was youthful yet not slick, suggesting he was likely a reliable person.

"He’s more diligent and hardworking than me. Where did you find such an industrious intern?"

"The HR department recruited him." Orion, who always doted on his sister, said, "I’m off to a meeting now. If you need anything, just find Rhodes, or ask my secretary to help you. Since you’re new today, let Steven show you around to get familiar with your work position."

"Okay, thanks, bro." Iris watched Orion as he left the office, and the room suddenly fell silent. After a moment, she turned to Steven and said, "How long have you been interning here?"

"About a month." Steven was a bit nervous, perhaps not used to female bosses, often averting his gaze when looking at Iris, "Um, President Crawford... I’ll be outside. You can get acquainted with your position first, and later I’ll take you around the company."

"No need to be so formal." Iris laughed, sitting in the chair and skillfully crossed her legs, indeed looking quite like a female entrepreneur at first glance, "Just call me Iris."

"But you’re the CEO..."

"I’m not much older than you." Iris tapped on the table, "Calling me President Crawford feels so distant. Just call me Iris."

Steven’s initially recovered complexion turned red again. He stammered, "President Crawford, I mean... Iris, understood. I’ll prepare the report for you. Coincidentally, there’s a meeting at the start of the month, and you’ll need to attend since you’re here."

Things settled between Steven and Iris, but outside, people weren’t so calm. Hearing about the new female CEO from The Crawford Family parachuting in, countless people passed by the office hoping to sneak a peek at the ’mysterious guest’.

While organizing materials outside, Steven heard whisperings, "Came to work in a sports car this morning, must be some rich second-generation diving into life experiences."

"A parachute appointment, surely there’s major talent involved..."

"Not necessarily talent, having powerful parents works too."

"You’re just jealous."

"Jealous of what? President Lewis has worked so hard for so long and still hasn’t secured this position, only for it to be snatched by a woman. Who do we complain to? Just venting a bit for President Lewis."

Steven passed by the murmuring employees, faked a cough on the side, and the group went silent upon seeing him.

He knocked on Iris’s office door, holding a stack of documents. Upon entering, he was momentarily stunned.

He initially thought Iris had a carefree personality, perhaps just another pampered heiress, but was surprised to see her wearing glasses, diligently working at her desk.

The thin silver-rimmed glasses complemented her scholarly and composed look, with loose strands by her ear adding a hint of mature charm. She seemed to be reviewing past data, not lifting her head even upon hearing him, only snapping out of it when Steven placed the documents next to her.

"You’re here?"

Staring at the computer for too long made Iris jerk her hand unexpectedly when she looked up, accidentally knocking over the cup beside her. As it neared toppling over, Steven quickly caught it.

In that moment, his hand firmly collided with Iris’s as they both reached for the cup.

Steven’s face reddened like a girl’s, "President Crawford, I mean, Iris, you... I... let me do it!"

"I was worried the cup would spill." Iris chuckled, "Thanks for your help."

Steven gave a mosquito-like hum, stabilized the cup, refilled it, and moved it slightly away, "I saw you were busy when I came in, so I didn’t disturb you."

"It’s okay." Iris waved her hand, "There’s nothing I need your help with today. I’ll prepare the things that need to be handed over since I’m new to this position."

Steven glanced at Iris again, recalling the earlier gossip from outside.

He took a deep breath, walked to the door, and waited outside for Iris to call him. That wait lasted the whole day until it was time to clock out, and Iris hadn’t left her office. At the end of the shift, he entered to find Iris drinking water, spinning a pen while reviewing the documents he had brought earlier.

Steven softly said, "Iris, it’s time to clock out."

"Where’s my brother?"

"President Crawford is likely working overtime. He asked me to escort you first."

"Alright." Iris stood up decisively, "Let’s go punch out."

Before they even reached the clocking area, they heard people talking, fervently discussing something: "So handsome."

"Whose boyfriend is that?"

"Is that a domineering CEO?"

Iris’s eyelid twitched, spotting a silhouette leaning against the glass door outside the clocking area, featuring neat black hair, strikingly rebellious eyebrows, and impeccably straight legs wrapped in suit pants—

It could only be Lachlan Wyatt.

He really came to pick her up after work?

Iris tugged at her lips, pretending not to notice. Having just clocked out and stepped outside, she saw Lachlan turn his head, his slender fingers pointing at Steven behind her, "Where did he come from?"

Iris chuckled, "What do you mean, where from?"

"The man." Lachlan squinted, with a hint of a smile, "This one following behind you."

Iris understood his implication but still replied with a smile, "My assistant."

"Oh, an assistant." Lachlan continued with a forced smile, blending his handsome anger with a tinge of jealousy, "Why’d you get a little puppy as an assistant again?"
