CHAPTER 16: CHAPTER 16: YOU’RE JUST MAKING TROUBLE!

Hearing Lachlan Wyatt say this, Iris Crawford closely observed his expression, knowing this was Lachlan deliberately mocking her for her past infatuation with Jordan Jacobs.

Indeed, back then she was a chubby, foolish girl full of unrequited love, thinking a few years of getting along could make Jordan fall for her. Instead, he personally handed her over to the knife of a thug.

If she still couldn’t forget the old feelings after this, she was only worthy of the words "bringing her own sorrow upon herself."

"Haven’t you heard the saying? Someone who can’t even throw away garbage is garbage in the eyes of garbage."

Iris unfolded the note from Jordan Jacobs. These familiar addresses and phone numbers were once etched in her memory.

But now, Iris treated it like trash, with her red-nailed fingers lightly tearing the note apart and tossing it into the trash bin.

Lachlan watched her actions and whistled, sounding less like a domineering CEO and more like a street thug, saying, "The contact info your ex-husband gave you, don’t want it anymore?"

This guy just kept up with the sarcastic remarks, never ending.

Iris sneered, "If you’re unwilling to part with it, I’ll give it to you, want it?"

Lachlan didn’t respond, but extended his hand, knowing what he wanted, Iris passed the contract over, "Jordan Jacobs relented; after all, the representative he sent did such a shameful thing. He couldn’t rightly refuse to give up this bit of benefit, he signed."

Lachlan accepted the contract, then patted Iris on the cheek and said, "That’s good, is Jordan Jacobs interested in you now? The way you’ve returned now has your ex-husband completely beside himself."

Iris Crawford’s face had indeed transformed drastically; slimmed down, she was a stunner now. But it’s not surprising, given her family’s good genes—her brother Orion Crawford was dashingly handsome and formidable, and her sister was rumored to be a supermodel.

The news that Iris was still alive hadn’t reached him yet, but if Orion Crawford knew...

Jordan Jacobs, you just wait for your demise.

Lachlan, in high spirits, swaggered out of the conference room, with Iris following closely behind. The two of them together looked like a scene out of a comic—the grinning CEO with his glamorous, sexy secretary right behind him. But after Lachlan entered the office, he shut the door without paying any mind to Iris.

Iris was left outside the office.

She didn’t intend to go in anyway, her position was right outside the CEO’s office, after all, as the exclusive secretary. Turning a corner brought her to her own desk, and she sat down, glancing at the time on her computer. It was close to quitting time, time to pack up and go home.

Just at this time, familiar footsteps approached once more. Iris looked up to find it was Roxanne Young.

She seemed angry, accompanied by a department supervisor and a handful of other colleagues, appearing as though they were coming to settle scores with Iris, walking directly up to her.

Iris was drinking water, processing the files on her desk, without giving Roxanne a glance.

Ignored, Roxanne knocked on Iris’s computer, "Hey, what’s your meaning?"

Iris set down her cup, "Looking for me for something?"

She even dared to speak like this!

Roxanne eyed the materials she handed over in the morning, still neatly stacked on her desk.

Clearly, Iris hadn’t followed her instructions to enter the data into the system.

Roxanne pointed at Iris, her tone full of displeasure, "Why didn’t you do the job I asked you to do this morning?"

"Exactly! Because of you alone, our entire department’s progress is delayed!"

"Does the newcomer not know how to work? Do you know workplace rules?"

Iris’s fingers were remarkably slender, while they came to settle accounts, standing around her desk in a circle. But she wasn’t at all anxious, sitting in her chair, adjusting herself to a particularly comfortable position, fingers intertwined and playing with each other, seemingly not taking their words to heart.

Seeing her attitude, Roxanne secretly observed the expression of her department supervisor, and sure enough, the supervisor’s face was filled with anger, seemingly feeling his authority was challenged.

Great, they should let the supervisor resent Iris fiercely, so she couldn’t survive in the company!

To incite more hatred towards her, Roxanne added, "Don’t pretend to be mute. What’s wrong with asking you to do something? Everyone has gone through this, why, are you the delicate one? Not doing this, not doing that, not helping colleagues at all, do you have any sense of camaraderie in your heart?"

Now this was perfect, everyone started chiming in.

"Exactly, we’re all colleagues, what’s wrong with helping out?"

"Aren’t we supposed to be like a family in the company? Do you not consider us family?"

Iris looked up and smiled.

"No, I don’t."

A sense of camaraderie, what’s that?

Roxanne gasped, hardly expecting Iris to speak so bluntly, and that was with so many colleagues present!

Iris stared at her computer, then said word by word, "I’m not even in the same department as you guys, who’s your colleague?"

"You’re so rude!"

Among those attacking her, one woman was more impulsive, unable to hold back and stepped out, "Isn’t it just about doing a bit more work! Who do you think you are, does your family run a company? I went through this back then, why can’t you?"

"Back then you couldn’t refuse when others piled work on you because you were incompetent, spineless, a coward. Unable to say no, you deserved to take the fall and do those things," Iris retorted sharply and bluntly, "Just because you couldn’t refuse doesn’t mean I can’t."

The woman was immediately tongue-tied, unable to say a word against Iris, though she wanted to say something to attack her, Iris’s smile was too mocking, blatantly ridiculing her.

"What do you mean by this?" Roxanne pointed at Iris, no longer caring that they were at the company, having been there so many years, now a newcomer dared to speak so harshly, trampling on their heads, this was a challenge!

If they really let Iris get away with this, there wouldn’t be a place for them in the company anymore!

So Roxanne said, "Do you think having the boss backing you makes you so great? I gave you the data to enter this morning, a normal task, why didn’t you do it? Plus, the department supervisor’s son needs a paper, you’re a secretary, can’t even handle a little thing like that?"

"Yeah." Iris spread her hands, "I can’t."

Just before quitting time, more and more onlookers gathered. Everyone was watching, they couldn’t possibly lose to Iris?

The department supervisor stepped out, a male whose voice naturally carried more weight than Iris’s, and even had a hint of threat, "Newcomer, the boss giving you a task is within protocol, right? Are you provoking us?"

"Please, I’m not even in the same department as you." Iris didn’t even look at the supervisor, "It’s you guys finding trouble for no reason."

Finding trouble for no reason!

The crowds gasped.

Wow! Iris was simply rebellious, a newcomer daring to point at another department’s supervisor, saying they were finding trouble!
