Chapter 31: You’re Still the Jacobs Family’s Lady!
CHAPTER 31: CHAPTER 31: YOU’RE STILL THE JACOBS FAMILY’S LADY!
Stunned by such a shocking revelation, Yvonne Jennings watched Jordan Jacobs stride towards Iris Crawford’s hospital room. She quickly followed behind and, sure enough, witnessed Jordan violently pushing open the hospital room door, startling Iris and Peach who were both looking at their phones inside.
Jordan rushed forward, not even caring that Lachlan Wyatt was nearby, grabbing Iris’s hand and yanking her roughly from the bed. "Iris! You’ve deceived me so bitterly!"
Iris trembled all over.
Lachlan Wyatt stood to the side, frowning.
Outside the door, Yvonne was observing the situation’s development, terrified that if Iris was indeed alive, she would undoubtedly expose the events of the past...
Yvonne clung tightly to the door. She absolutely couldn’t let Iris live, because of the kidnapping incident back then... She took out her phone and sent a text to a number.
After a while, someone replied quickly, telling her to find a gynecologist, as that doctor might reveal the truth.
Inside, Jordan and Iris were at a standstill, no one noticing Yvonne sneaking away from the door.
It was Peach who stepped forward to try to stop Jordan. "You have no relation to each other, what are you doing! Let her go!"
Iris’s hand was tightly gripped in Jordan’s palm. She looked up and smiled at him. "Is something the matter?"
"It’s you, it’s you isn’t it!"
Jordan’s breathing was erratic, as if he desperately needed an answer, or he might go mad at any moment. "I asked the hospital’s front desk. The registration was under Iris’s name. Why are you using her name!"
Lachlan Wyatt raised an intrigued brow, watching the expression on Iris’s face.
Hearing Jordan’s interrogation, Iris did not panic. She only stared at his face, the face of the man who was once her true love. Now, facing her true love, her voice turned cold. "It has nothing to do with you, does it? Let go!"
Jordan didn’t let go, instead gripping Iris’s hand tightly in his own. His actions seemed to suggest he feared she might run away, entirely unlike his previous confrontational stance towards her. His voice trembled, "Why didn’t you tell me you were alive, why!"
Look at him now, like a man who has lost his beloved.
Iris felt a chill in her heart. "You’re asking me this? Maybe I should ask you why you watched me die back then!"
How could he take on the role of the victim to question her deceit?
He had wanted her dead back then!
Iris’s voice was resolute, not losing her calm in the slightest, while Jordan’s expression was complex and chaotic, too many emotions flashing across his mind, leaving him unable to compose himself to face Iris appropriately.
"It really is you... it really is you..."
Jordan, like a madman, caressed Iris’s hand, feeling every joint as if confirming she was alive. This action filled Iris with dread. She tried to withdraw her hand forcefully, but unexpectedly, Jordan wouldn’t let go, tightening his grip even more!
"Why... are you here for revenge?"
Jordan’s eyes turned red. "You didn’t die back then, tricked us all, and now you’re here for revenge after two years, aren’t you!"
No wonder from the moment Iris appeared, she targeted him, even ruining his wedding. She wanted him to be utterly disgraced!
Jordan accused Iris, "We were once husband and wife, how can you be so heartless, not telling me and wanting to destroy me!"
Lachlan Wyatt laughed on the side, listening to Jordan’s tone, as if Iris was the one trying to kill and seize fortune.
Her identity unexpectedly exposed by Jordan, Iris indeed found it hard to defend herself. Registering under this name for the hospital already said it all.
She was done pretending, looking at Jordan’s heartbroken expression, she fiercely shook free of his grip.
Jordan had never thought Iris would one day truly reject him.
Impossible, this woman used to be so clingy, her eyes only for him.
How did she suddenly become so cold, with no trace of love for him in her eyes...
Jordan shook his head. "Birdie, why... why deceive me?"
"I deceived you?"
Iris burst into laughter. "You watched me die coldly, yet now you accuse me of deceiving you. Jordan, you’re truly a master of twisting truths!"
Jordan’s chest ached. "No Birdie, listen to me, back then..."
Upon hearing Jordan call Iris by the endearing nickname, Lachlan Wyatt’s expression changed.
Birdie? What a boring and childish nickname.
James Chesterton sensed the tense atmosphere and glanced at Lachlan Wyatt, startled.
The man was smiling. Lachlan Wyatt, the angrier he got, the more he would smile. Now, that mocking smile showed how even as a bystander enjoying the drama, he was also infuriated!
Iris pointed at Jordan, "Get out of my hospital room, and remember to transfer the money to my account."
Jordan’s face changed.
"Of course, I’d expect that someone as cold-hearted as you would set a trap for me, probably transferring money first and then using extortion charges to throw me in jail, right?"
With these words, Jordan felt a chill run through his entire body.
How could, why could Iris see through that?
She was no longer the stupid and pitiful fat girl she once was!
"But it doesn’t matter, precisely if you send me to jail, it means my identity will be revealed. By then, everyone will know Iris is alive. Do you think the kidnapping case from back then will be drudged up again?"
Her words struck like thunder from a clear sky, making Jordan’s ears buzz.
He opened his mouth in disbelief, barely able to utter a sound. "Birdie... you’re threatening me?"
"Don’t use that old nickname on me, it’s disgusting!" Iris smacked his hand away as he reached out again. "Aren’t you most afraid of your facade collapsing? Aren’t you most concerned with keeping the Jacobs family’s stocks stable? When the kidnapping resurfaces, I’d like to see if you can escape unscathed. Come on, what other despicable tricks do you have for me?"
Impossible, how could the person before him be Iris?
Jordan’s heart raced wildly, everything he saw felt too unreal.
The Iris of the past was fat and dull, with a face so squeezed you couldn’t see any good features, her only redeeming quality was her kindness, which became her fatal flaw.
Because she was kind, easy to talk to, with a warm heart, it was too easy to deceive and bully her.
Jordan knew Iris loved him deeply, and he knew the Crawford Family was equally matched with his own. Marrying Iris would allow for a strong alliance. So, he kept Yvonne as a mistress outside while turning around to marry Iris, whom he didn’t love at all.
But Jordan underestimated his patience, living day after day with a fat woman was so nauseating it made him want to vomit.
When he walked out, the brothers in the circle all laughed at him, saying that while other people’s wives were all rich and beautiful socialites, he was the one who married a fat woman. Haha, what a disgrace.
That’s why Jordan Jacobs hated Iris Crawford, hated her for being so fat and ugly. But fortunately, the Crawford Family gave him enough face, and with Orion Crawford being such a protective brother, Jordan Jacobs was appeased by the benefits from the Crawford Family while also fearing Orion Crawford’s wrath, so he never divorced.
Yvonne Jennings, the mistress, waited and waited, finally waiting for a kidnapping. Jordan Jacobs thought that if Iris Crawford died, it would be a relief, and it wouldn’t be something Orion Crawford could blame him for.
But he never expected...
Iris Crawford didn’t die.
She came back.
She had lost weight and no longer loved him.
Jordan Jacobs took a deep breath, starting to think of how to stabilize the situation, "Birdie, you blame me, don’t you? Blame me for choosing someone else back then..."
He really had treated Iris Crawford poorly in the past, even bringing the mistress into the house. Now that Iris Crawford was back alive, he was naturally flustered, "Birdie, listen to me, let me explain, Yvonne Jennings and I were not really..."
"Weren’t you and she rock-solid?"
Iris Crawford looked at Jordan Jacobs, her cold and stunning face full of disdain, as if this person wasn’t someone she had once deeply loved, but an insignificant piece of trash by the roadside, "Oh, now you’re saying there was nothing between you and Yvonne Jennings? You two almost got married once, remember? Didn’t those funeral wreaths at the wedding venue prick your conscience enough?"
Jordan Jacobs feared Iris Crawford would expose what happened back then, "Whatever you want, anything is up for discussion, Birdie, I’ll tell Yvonne Jennings to get lost right now, let’s get back together..."
"You’re truly disgusting, beyond measure."
Iris Crawford clicked her tongue, as if marveling at how Jordan Jacobs pushed the boundaries of shamelessness, "Get out of my sight, Jordan Jacobs. I don’t want to hear your dull explanations. Since you already know who I am, I won’t pretend anymore. Let me inform you now—Jordan Jacobs, two years ago Iris Crawford didn’t die, today I am back, and from now on, it’s your turn to live in agony!"
Jordan Jacobs was struck as if by a heavy blow, hardly able to believe such words came from Iris Crawford’s mouth.
She dared to say such things to him?
"I know you hate me, but back then I had my own difficulties too..." Jordan Jacobs shouted, still trying to salvage any bit of goodwill. He was the kind of person ingrained with smooth-talking and could change his demeanor instantly, adept at navigating tricky situations, "Birdie, can’t you spare a thought for me? You didn’t die; I’m actually relieved, it’s so great you didn’t die..."
"Get out of here." Iris Crawford pointed to the door, unwilling to listen to Jordan Jacobs’ words, which insulted the love she once had, never imagining that the person she loved could be so filthy and disgusting in truth.
She said, "Yeah, it’s great I didn’t die, because the one who should be dead is you!"
Jordan Jacobs was shaken, and beside him, James Chesterton took out his phone to send a message. After a while, security guards came in from outside, "Who’s causing trouble in here?!"
Jordan Jacobs couldn’t believe it as he looked at Iris Crawford, "You’re kicking me out? You’re my wife, you’re kicking me out?!"
The word ’wife’ pierced the most painful part of Iris Crawford; she clenched her fingers tightly, "Your beloved Yvonne Jennings is waiting for you; why come here to act? I won’t be soft-hearted, Jordan Jacobs. You cheated while married and coldly watched me die, choosing to remarry on my death anniversary, Jordan Jacobs you’re worse than a beast!"
"Back then I mistakenly thought you were dead, and that’s why the marriage was annulled. Now that you’re alive, you’re still my wife!"
Jordan Jacobs was dragged by the security guards, shouting hoarsely, "Iris Crawford, as long as you’re not dead, the fact of being widowed doesn’t exist, as long as you live, you’re my wife, Jordan Jacobs!"
"Get out of here!"
Lachlan Wyatt, who had been silent, suddenly spoke, his voice filled with a murderous tone like a sharp blade piercing directly through Jordan Jacobs’ chest.
He was dumbfounded by Lachlan Wyatt’s roar, as if suddenly becoming foolish.
Lachlan Wyatt’s outburst even startled Peach and James Chesterton; normally, even when angry, Lachlan was the type to smile sarcastically, habitually spectating as a paper tiger, but such an outburst was indeed rare.
Jordan Jacobs was dragged out by the security guards, and as the door to the room closed, only the four of them were left inside.
Iris Crawford was gasping, clutching her chest, not expecting her identity to be discovered by Jordan Jacobs so quickly; her face pale, her gaze unsteady.
What Jordan Jacobs said was true; back then, who knows what means Lachlan Wyatt used to help her dodge an examination, leading them to believe Iris Crawford was dead, hence registering as widowed. Now that she wasn’t dead, this fact of widowhood definitely needed to be annulled and re-examined.
She was still Jordan Jacobs’ wife.
Just thinking of this frustrated Iris Crawford immensely.
She had to escape this nauseating marital relationship.
As Iris Crawford was troubled over how to file for divorce again, Lachlan Wyatt didn’t look well either. Peach and James Chesterton exchanged a glance, Peach spoke first, "Maybe I should leave too?"
James Chesterton said, "Let’s both go."
Lachlan Wyatt remained silent, so Peach and James Chesterton instinctively held their breath, tucked their necks, and left the room. They just happened to need to help Iris Crawford investigate some matters; it was better to leave some alone time for Lachlan Wyatt and Iris Crawford.
So, the number of people in the room decreased once more.
Finally, only Lachlan Wyatt and Iris Crawford were left.
Both maintained their silence, not wishing to break the dead silence.
After a long time, it was Lachlan Wyatt who stepped forward.
He reached out, pinched Iris Crawford’s chin, lifting her face up.
Iris Crawford had a very beautiful face, with fox-like eyes, a graceful nose, and a radiant smile with two small dimples. It wasn’t surprising that Jordan Jacobs found it hard to connect her to the overweight woman she used to be; Iris Crawford had undergone a complete transformation.
She was so beautiful, yet so cold, having changed her personality enormously after being betrayed, seemingly no longer willing to trust anyone in this world.
Only oneself could save oneself.
Lachlan Wyatt smiled, mimicking Jordan Jacobs’ tone, "Birdie."
These two words gave Iris Crawford goosebumps all over, "Don’t use that to provoke me."
"He called you so happily." Lachlan Wyatt was strong and handsome, "But I can’t call you that? Hm?"
A hint of red surfaced in Iris Crawford’s eyes, and Lachlan Wyatt licked his lips, leaning closer to her, "Or is it that you want to be called something else... Mrs. Jacobs?"
These three words turned Iris Crawford’s face instantly pale, and she bit her teeth hard, "Lachlan Wyatt, what do you really want?"
"Now that your identity is public, you have to go back to the Jacobs Family and be Mrs. Jacobs who isn’t dead, right?" Lachlan Wyatt’s eyes were deep and unclear, like a black hole, when Iris Crawford met his gaze, she felt like her soul was sucked in, "Do you still want to continue your revenge on your husband?"
Iris Crawford stared at Lachlan Wyatt for a few seconds, then laughed.
She was like a blooming, poisonous poppy, knowing full well that Lachlan Wyatt was closing in on her, yet still sending herself up to him, "Hey, do you have feelings for me, and now you don’t want me to go back to the Jacobs Family?"
A beast-like predatory look flashed in Lachlan Wyatt’s eyes, was Iris Crawford doing this on purpose, deliberately trying to seduce him?
This wasn’t flirting; it was mutual aggression.
He bit Iris Crawford’s ear as he pressed her against the bed, "Having taken care of someone else’s wife for so long, shouldn’t Jordan Jacobs thank me."
