Thousands of Brilliant Stars: You Deserve the Best!
Chapter 37: When the Sis-Con Takes the Field, He’s Worth Two!
CHAPTER 37: CHAPTER 37: WHEN THE SIS-CON TAKES THE FIELD, HE’S WORTH TWO!
Orion Crawford reached out to touch Iris Crawford’s face, unable to believe that his sister had returned, looking so different now.
To be honest, that phone call from Lachlan Wyatt made his heart feel as if it was being squeezed; it was an open secret in their circle that his sister had died two years ago.
No one dared to mention it in front of Young Master Jacobs, fearing it would bring up sad memories and make him furious.
When Lachlan Wyatt called, he had initially wanted to angrily reprimand him, wondering how he could let his good brother open up such an old wound in the middle of the night. But then he reconsidered, knowing that although Lachlan Wyatt was rebellious, he never joked about serious matters. Torn between science and brotherhood, Orion Crawford decided to come and see for himself.
They hadn’t seen each other in two years, so Iris Crawford thought her brother wouldn’t recognize her.
But with just one glance, Orion Crawford came straight towards her.
That look in his eyes needed no doubt; it was enough to identify her.
Orion Crawford’s movements were so large that he almost knocked James Chesterton over; then, it was his turn to hold Iris Crawford tightly, "Huh? You’re Iris Crawford, aren’t you?"
Iris Crawford’s nose tingled, and her voice trembled, "Brother..."
Orion Crawford gritted his teeth to keep from getting too emotional. His sister, presumed dead for two years, came back like this and even more beautiful. Of course, he was overwhelmingly excited. He said to Iris Crawford, "It’s okay, it’s okay; I’m here, I’m here..."
He still didn’t know what grievances his sister had suffered. Two years ago, Jordan Jacobs had always seemed restless to him. If it wasn’t for his sister speaking well of him back then, how could Orion Crawford have been willing to let his sister marry him!
After the kidnapping case, Orion Crawford felt guilty and remorseful day and night, but finally, heaven took pity on him and returned his sister to his side.
"With me here, if you have any grievances, just tell me directly." Orion Crawford released Iris Crawford, holding her hand, "Did they bully you?"
Howard Jennings thought to himself, "Big brother, look at my face covered in blood; who bullied whom here?"
But in the next second, his jaw dropped as Iris Crawford collapsed into Orion Crawford’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably. Usually vibrant as a thorny rose, now it seemed as if the rose petals were wilting one by one, nearly withering, as she weakly clung to Orion Crawford. She said, "Brother, they bullied me; there were so many of them. They took videos of me and wanted to hit me. Look at me... look at me..."
Lachlan Wyatt watched her with a cheerful squint. This little vixen was really interesting.
Unable to find any particularly severe injuries on her, Iris Crawford cried a bit, then continued to wail, "Look, they even broke a few strands of my hair!"
Howard Jennings roared, "Do you have no shame, woman? Clearly, it was my mother and me who were beaten!"
Who would dare mention a few broken strands of hair from a fight!
But upon hearing this, Orion Crawford, the ultimate sister-protector, was instantly volcanic in his wrath. He turned around furiously with Iris Crawford, looking at the controlled Jennings family, "Whoever touched her hair, step forward right now!"
How could they step forward when Lachlan Wyatt’s people held them tightly? How could ordinary people possibly compare to the elite professional bodyguards behind Lachlan Wyatt?
Howard Jennings shook with anger, holding his forehead. The bleeding that had almost stopped started again, and he pointed at Iris Crawford saying, "Your sister is a mistress... ruining Yvonne Jennings’s marriage. We... we were just teaching her a little lesson. After all, shouldn’t mistresses be punished by everyone?"
Orion Crawford said, "First, you all ignorantly broke the law to help your relative, forming a brawl; it’s your own fault you were beaten for underestimating them. Second, I am also hypocritical, human nature is inherently evil, even if my sister was a mistress, I would not allow you to harm her even a little. Third and most importantly, my sister is not a mistress; she is the lawfully wedded wife of Jordan Jacobs, legally protected, and shares a marital relationship with him. Yvonne Jennings is the mistress who deserves to be berated by everyone!"
Orion Crawford was indeed a big brother figure. His words made the Jennings family turn pale with fear. How could they have known about Iris Crawford’s situation back then? They had just enjoyed a good life following Yvonne Jennings for the last two years, taking her words as the absolute truth. Yvonne Jennings said this marriage was troubled because an unknown woman showed up, and her family wanted to help teach a lesson, so a bunch of clueless relatives came thinking they could outnumber Iris Crawford.
How could they have imagined that this person in front of them was originally Jordan Jacobs’ legitimate wife!
The Jennings family clammed up in fear, only Howard Jennings dared to say, "You’re here for revenge, aren’t you! You must be here for revenge!"
"If you hadn’t come to provoke me, why would I include you in my plans?"
Iris Crawford, who had been sobbing into Orion Crawford’s chest, suddenly raised her head, her eyes sharp like a warrior with a battlefield blazing behind her, looking directly at Howard Jennings, whose face had turned hideous from greed. She wondered if someday the Jordan Jacobs she once loved would also become so unsightly. Suddenly, she smiled, "Retribution doesn’t happen immediately; its time simply hasn’t come yet. And now, it’s your turn!"
Iris Crawford’s words made Howard Jennings shiver violently, "What are you going to do? Back during the kidnapping case, we didn’t deliberately not save you; Young Master Jacobs just chose our Yvonne. If you have a score to settle, you should go find Young Master Jacobs!"
Now, they’ve pushed all the responsibility onto Jordan Jacobs.
They really are a bunch of good dogs, eating well by following Jordan, and now claiming everything is Jordan’s fault.
Most folks in the world are kind and helpful, yet there are always a few rotten ones, ugly enough to make one nauseous.
Iris pointed at Howard Jennings and said, "Brother, back at Lachlan Wyatt Technologies, he even laid hands on me... There’s surveillance footage to prove everything."
Orion Crawford burst into rage on the spot and was about to rush over when James Chesterton held him back, "Brother, calm down! The police are downstairs; calm down!"
If Orion Crawford loses his temper, he might just grab a knife to hack Jordan Jacobs to pieces! Look at the woman you found outside, even bringing such a group of vicious relatives, doing everything to set up the sister he painstakingly kept alive!
Orion pointed at Howard Jennings, his handsome face almost twisted with anger, showing his extreme fury, "You damn toad wanting to eat swan meat, I’ve protected my sister for so long. She’s never harmed anyone, she’s kind and honest, and look what you’ve done to her, you bastards! Today, no one’s plea will work; let the police take you away and lock you up!"
Kind and honest.
Lachlan Wyatt gave Iris a teasing look, and Iris returned a stylish eyebrow raise.
Little vixen.
Just then, Chiara Larkin led in her father Milton Larkin, the protector of this city, for whom the four words "light of righteousness" were tailor-made. He fought criminals in his youth, even implicating his family, leading to his wife’s death. He single-handedly raised a daughter, and at the case briefing, said he never regretted dedicating himself to justice. It was later heard that his daughter also joined the army; who wouldn’t praise a whole family of heroes after hearing that?
Seeing Milton Larkin, Howard Jennings knew it was over. Even if Jordan Jacobs were here, he couldn’t save him.
Milton Larkin frowned, looking at the chaotic scene and the club manager who didn’t dare breathe when leading him up. He asked, "What’s the situation here?"
"The surveillance footage is ready for you..." The club manager dared not cause trouble, even though the one beaten was a friend of Jordan Jacobs; he wouldn’t dare cover it up, "It seems... it seems like this group beat up a woman, only to be beaten back. Now, the woman’s friends brought people over to take control of the scene..."
A group of people beat up a woman, only to be beaten back? What a joke!
Lachlan Wyatt stepped forward, wrapping his arm around Iris Crawford’s shoulder, "Orion Crawford, how about we go solve the problem of the online video first and leave this to the police? So many people ganged up on a weak woman only to be beaten back, although the outcome is surprising, I think it’s justifiable self-defense."
Justifiable self-defense?
Hector Sutton and Jeremy Carter also helped smooth things over, "Uncle Milton is here; he will definitely stand up for the victim."
"That’s right, there were so many people trying to hit Iris just now. I saw it all; I even helped block it," Dane Rivers said to Orion Crawford. "Crawford, calm down a bit, trust that good will prevail over evil!"
Everyone called him Crawford, but Lachlan Wyatt addressed him by his full name, Orion Crawford.
Milton Larkin looked at the scene, then at Iris, "Are you hurt?"
Iris, pitifully, said, "I’m so scared; they surrounded and attacked me with over ten people. I had no choice but to defend myself in such a harsh way..."
Spectators from other rooms who came to watch chimed in, yes, who wouldn’t be scared? They came up waving phones and fists, even posting videos online. Isn’t this leaving a girl with no way to live? Pushed into a corner, of course, she’d defend herself fiercely!
A group bullying a weak girl is really something, isn’t it? Luckily, someone later saved the day; otherwise, this girl might have been ruined today.
Yes, truly abhorrent!
The clamor of discussions helped Milton Larkin get a rough idea of what was happening.
Hearing this, Howard Jennings was shaking with rage, "You smashed my head, and you call it self-defense?"
Iris Crawford shivered along, her movements even more exaggerated than his, looking more pitiful as if Howard Jennings said one more word, she might faint. "Your people were harsh when they hit me too. I got angry and was too scared... or else I would have been the one beaten up..."
"You’re acting!" Howard Jennings said. "You used that trick against me last time—" This woman is practically merciless like a killer!
Iris Crawford shivered again, looking as pitiful as a pear blossom in the rain.
Lachlan Wyatt and Orion Crawford quickly supported her, yelling at Howard Jennings, "Why are you shouting so loud? You’re scaring her!"
Howard Jennings: "..."
It was the first time Iris Crawford met Howard Jennings, he was dragged out by Lachlan Wyatt Technologies’ security.
This time, the ones dragging him were even more significant: the police officers.
Outside, the lights of police cars and ambulances formed a dazzling picture as Iris stood alone below, watching Howard Jennings being put into a police car, while the remaining Jennings Family members were also taken away like a family bucket, being escorted and crying like ghosts, yelling they won’t let them go, and calling for Young Master Jacobs to save them—how arrogant they were when they arrived, how desperate they are now as they leave.
On the side, Orion Crawford held Milton Larkin’s hand, thanking him continuously, making Milton feel a bit embarrassed.
Looking at this group of spirited young people, Milton seemed to recall his younger self. He patted Orion’s shoulder, "Crawford, I’ve got this covered."
"With Uncle saying that, I’m relieved. I only have one sister, and she’s being bullied by so many people. Luckily, she’s strong..." Orion Crawford’s face showed a painful expression, "It’s so infuriating! Poor places breed scoundrels!"
Iris stood there, unchanged, whistling, her brother oblivious to her changed demeanor, still seeing her as kind and gentle as she once was.
With her head down, Iris pondered as someone approached from behind, "I bet Howard dared to do this because Yvonne Jennings was behind it."
Recognizing the voice, Iris replied without turning, "After handling Howard, it’ll be Yvonne’s turn, but there’s a lot to settle with her, one by one."
Lachlan sensed Iris’ cold tone, putting his hand on her shoulder, "Is it my fault for involving your brother?"
Iris shrugged his hand off, "I don’t want my brother entangled in these matters."
She preferred to bear the pain and hatred alone.
Lachlan chuckled mockingly after a moment, "Didn’t realize you were so understanding."
"He’s my brother." Iris replied with a cold smile, "Should I be considerate of you instead?"
Why would Lachlan need anyone to be considerate? His schemes were already a huge relief if not directed at others, let alone needing someone else’s concern!
"Since you’ve reunited with your brother." Lachlan lowered his voice, "Does this mean you should go back to The Crawford Family?"
The thought of waking up in the morning and not seeing Iris’s face seemed a bit dull to Lachlan.
Yet Iris shook her head, "My brother has his own life; it doesn’t make sense for me to live with him every day. He should find a wife and marry, and I’m already independent. So, I won’t move back."
Does this mean staying together?
Lachlan grinned, purposely saying, "I knew you couldn’t bear to leave me."
Iris smirked sarcastically, "Just cleaned up a bunch of cockroaches tonight, don’t disgust me here."
Though Lachlan spoke these sweet words, his gaze was cold like a layer of frost, yet his face was charmingly radiant, easily deceiving ordinary girls with his honeyed words; Iris never fell for it.
At the edge of their flirtation, she always retained a sense of reason.
Constantly touching taboos, they perhaps no longer had anything private between them; sweet talk had become the least respected, lowest learning, and Iris was long numb and guarded.
They were in a game of conquest and being conquered, and Lachlan’s face was stunningly captivating, which was why Iris often zoned out staring at him?
Such a handsome face deserved the most arrogant, thunderous emperor status—or was meant for the most unruly antagonist, and Lachlan was evidently the latter.
There was not a single breath on him related to the word "just."
Iris didn’t want to deal with Lachlan, but a voice came from behind, "Iris! Iris!"
Turning around, it was Dane Rivers leading Hector Sutton down.
Iris didn’t look pleased, "What?"
If Dane Rivers hadn’t insisted she come, this night’s chaos wouldn’t have happened.
Anyway, the Jennings Family was a target, and they walked right into it themselves.
Noticing Iris’ impatient tone, Dane wasn’t too happy either, "Can’t you be nicer to me?"
Hector pointed at Iris, "You’re just waiting for us to watch a show, right? Why didn’t you speak out when I mocked your identity at the start?"
Hadn’t she spoken out? She mentioned it several times already!
Glancing at Orion chatting with Milton in the distance, Iris shifted her gaze to Hector, "Seeing you is worse luck than seeing Lachlan."
Bad luck.
Being pointed at and deemed unlucky, Hector wasn’t happy.
"So what if you’re Orion’s sister!"
"Nothing much." Iris shrugged, "What do you want with me? I remember you also just watched from the side earlier. Why speak up after it’s over?"
Hector paled.
He and Jeremy indeed chose to stand by.
Unlike Lachlan, who directly hit their mother so hard that she had a nosebleed.
Feeling quite uncomfortable, Hector thought considering he had been physically intimate with Iris, how could she be so cold and unfeeling now, as though he was the one pestering her unwilling? So he snickered, "I’m not obligated to help you anyway."
"Who’s begging you for help? Don’t bother me after it’s over either."
Iris glanced at him amusedly, nothing like she ever warmed to him in bed, more like a man. She stepped forward, wanting to greet Orion, leaving Hector entirely in the cold.
Hector felt rebuffed, saying to Lachlan, "Wyatt, look at this woman, she doesn’t care about me at all!"
Lachlan shrugged with a bright smile, "Not my problem."
