Although Charlotte Thompson maintained a sense of emotional distance toward Leon Battleson, who stood before her,

ultimately, she couldn’t remain indifferent upon seeing the injuries on him.

"Injuries?"

Leon Battleson’s expression showed slight bewilderment.

It seemed he never expected Charlotte to say something like this to him. Then, his eyes flickered slightly, quickly extending his arm voluntarily to Charlotte.

Seeing Charlotte had already picked up a bandage from the medical box, those beautiful almond-shaped eyes gradually revealed a different emotion.

But in the next second, Charlotte handed the bandage to the waiter nearby, nodding at him.

"Could you please bandage this gentleman’s wound?"

This made the smile that was about to appear on Leon Battleson’s lips instantly vanish.

However, fortunately, Leon managed to quickly fix his expression in front of Charlotte, because of the waiter’s actions; the bandage originally wrapped around Leon’s arm was unwound, revealing a very hideous wound.

Just a glance was enough for Charlotte to hastily avert her gaze.

The wound was deep and hadn’t healed well; the surrounding skin had faintly whitened.

The waiter was genuinely startled upon seeing this wound but dared not delay and immediately started bandaging Leon’s wound, though his fingertips couldn’t help but tremble slightly.

"Miss Thompson, you’re the first person to care about me like this."

Leon Battleson’s voice recovered somewhat, though it still sounded a bit distant, yet it was not difficult to detect a hint of joy within it.

Upon hearing this, Charlotte wondered if her redundant actions now would cause any impact, when suddenly Leon shifted his tone.

"Then... can I pursue you?"

This time Charlotte wasn’t so lucky. While sipping water, Leon’s sudden question caused her to choke abruptly, her whole face flushing red.

She pressed her fist against her lips, coughing a few times before the discomfort in her throat subsided.

"What?"

Charlotte frowned. Her cheeks reddened from the severe coughing. Only after catching her breath did she look incredulously at Leon Battleson, pushing the cup far away with her hand.

Clearly, this sentence was even more impactful than when Leon said she resembled his first love.

But compared to Charlotte’s astonished reaction, Leon’s expression was remarkably calm. He parted his lips slightly and uttered each word with extreme clarity.

"I said, I want to pursue you."

As if fearing Charlotte hadn’t understood his words, Leon paused for a moment before continuing to elaborate.

"I want to be with you. I want you to become my girlfriend..."

"I refuse."

Without waiting for Leon’s words to finish, Charlotte gave her answer directly.

"Why?" Leon asked, puzzled as he looked at Charlotte.

"I have a lover, and I am Justin Battleson’s wife." Charlotte found this answer somewhat amusing; weren’t certain things obvious to Leon?

Besides, Leon had previously called her ’sister-in-law’ numerous times, yet now he was saying such things.

Most likely, Leon thought he was just teasing her with these words, but what Charlotte didn’t anticipate was, this time Leon’s expression seemed especially serious.

"You’re only together nominally, anyway."
