CHAPTER 288: CHAPTER 280: WHAT, WORRIED I CAN’T EVEN DRIVE MYSELF HOME?
Hanhan nodded and also walked towards Rong Sinan.
"Come here, little guy." Rong Sinan patted the spot beside him.
"Uncle."
Hanhan called out to him once before climbing onto the sofa to sit down. That serious look made Rong Sinan seem to see a childhood Rong Mo Chen.
Rong Sinan’s gaze fixed on Hanhan’s small face for a while, a surge of indescribable emotion flooding his heart.
By nearly six, Jin Jumo had finished preparing dinner, and Gu Yan "diligently" helped Jin Jumo carry dish after dish to the table, even arranging them into pleasing shapes.
When Rong Mo Chen returned, he saw Gu Yan bringing out everyone’s bowls and chopsticks from the kitchen, his dark eyes squinting slightly.
Gu Yan was taken aback, but then smiled mischievously, lifting the bowls and chopsticks in his hand as if to say, "Look, Boss Rong, I’m not just eating for free here!"
"Mo Chen." Hearing the voice from the living room, Rong Mo Chen turned his gaze over.
Rong Sinan was holding Xixi and Hanhan by their sides, giving Rong Mo Chen a gentle, raised-brow look.
Rong Mo Chen’s stern face also softened, and he softly said, "Brother."
"Just in time, Momo has just finished making dinner." Rong Sinan said, naturally leading Xixi and Hanhan towards the dining room.
Rong Mo Chen curved his lips, took off his coat, rolled up his shirt sleeves, and headed to the bathroom. It was clear that he was in a good mood upon seeing Rong Sinan at home.
"Brother, use your exquisite culinary skills to evaluate Momo’s dishes—how do they compare to yours? Feeling defeated?"
Gu Yan, while eating with relish, didn’t forget to stir the pot.
Jin Jumo gave Gu Yan a sideways glance, speechless.
Rong Sinan chuckled lightly, looking at Jin Jumo with warmth and admiration, "Momo is not only beautiful, but her cooking skills are also so good. Our Mo Chen is lucky to have met you."
Jin Jumo blushed slightly at the sudden compliment, smiling shyly, "Brother Rong, you’re overpraising me; compared to your culinary skills, mine’s just a little something."
"Little Momo, Brother isn’t exaggerating. Since eating your dishes, even the so-called signature dishes of top chefs outside have lost their charm. Haven’t you noticed I’ve lost weight recently?" Gu Yan said wistfully.
As soon as Gu Yan finished speaking, a chubby little hand grasped his arm, squeezing up and down. In a soft, sticky voice, "Uncle Gu, you’re much fatter than Xixi. How can you say you’ve lost weight?"
The little girl giggled while saying this to Gu Yan in a particularly surprised yet speechless tone.
Gu Yan, "..."
He glanced at Xixi’s wrist, where the sleeve had slipped back to reveal a small stretch of chubbiness with folds upon folds burying the bones. Inwardly, he wondered how she dared to say he was much fatter than she was.
Jin Jumo held back a laugh, looking lovingly at her own daughter.
Even Rong Mo Chen lifted the corners of his mouth slightly, lovingly caressing his daughter’s little head.
Gu Yan glanced at Jin Jumo, then at Rong Mo Chen, inwardly lamenting that he seemed to be an unwelcome and pitiful person here.
In an instant, Gu Yan decided to turn his sorrow into appetite, speaking less... and eating more!
Watching his usually emotionally reserved brother showing visible affection and gentleness, Rong Sinan’s lips curved slightly.
After dinner, Rong Sinan proposed to leave, and Rong Mo Chen personally escorted him downstairs.
In front of the apartment building, the two tall figures stood before an Audi car.
Rong Sinan looked at Rong Mo Chen, his brows and eyes always gentle, filled with a brother’s clear affection and fondness for his younger sibling, "Momo is a good girl, and now she’s given you two such lovely children. Cherish your life with her."
Rong Mo Chen curved his lips, "Mm."
"I’m off." Rong Sinan patted Rong Mo Chen’s arm, smiling.
"I’ll see you off."
Rong Mo Chen said softly, walking around the car to sit in the driver’s seat.
Rong Sinan pulled him back, "No need to see me off."
Rong Mo Chen lightly furrowed his brows, looking at Rong Sinan.
"What, are you worried I can’t even drive home?" Rong Sinan laughed.
Rong Mo Chen pursed his lips, the crease between his brows not relaxing in the slightest.
Rong Sinan patted Rong Mo Chen’s arm again, saying nothing, dragging his slightly limp left leg around the car to sit in the driver’s seat, driving away from the apartment building in front of Rong Mo Chen.
Rong Mo Chen watched Rong Sinan drive off, the furrow in his brow deepening. He took out a cigarette and lighter from his suit pants, lowered his gaze slightly, lit a cigarette, and placed it between his lips.
After a few puffs, Rong Mo Chen suddenly clenched his jaw, tossed the cigarette butt to the ground, stomped it out with his foot, and abruptly turned to walk back into the building.
Gu Yan stayed in the apartment for a while with Xixi and Hanhan before leaving.
Jin Jumo glanced at the man who had been silent since returning from seeing off Rong Sinan, her long lashes dipping quietly.
After ten, Jin Jumo coaxed Xixi and Hanhan to sleep and came out of the room, immediately spotting the man who had been sitting in the same position for an unknown duration.
A sudden surge of sourness and heartache overwhelmed her. Jin Jumo quietly walked over to him.
Yet even so, Rong Mo Chen immediately lifted his eyes to look at her as she approached. His dark eyes were deep and mysterious, like a bottomless ancient well.
When Jin Jumo got closer, Rong Mo Chen took her hand, letting her sit on his lap, his black eyes gently gazing at her, "The kids asleep?"
Jin Jumo nodded lightly, her body relaxing as she leaned into his embrace, her bright eyes filled with worry as she looked at him, "Are you okay?"
"Mm?"
Rong Mochen furrowed his brow slightly, looking at Jin Jumo as if puzzled.
"Ever since you brought Brother Rong back, you’ve seemed preoccupied," Jin Jumo said softly.
"Really?" Rong Mochen lowered his black eyes, his long fingers gently kneading Jin Jumo’s delicate, soft fingers.
Jin Jumo used her other hand to cup his face, her peach blossom eyes seriously staring into his deep black pupils, "You are."
Rong Mochen half-closed his black eyes, quietly staring at Jin Jumo’s furrowed fair little face for a moment. His extraordinarily handsome face moved closer, and his thin lips gently touched the tip of Jin Jumo’s nose as he whispered, "I’ll take care of it, don’t worry."
Jin Jumo pressed her lips tightly, "Burying the pain and torment inside, struggling alone, is that what you call taking care of it?"
Rong Mochen’s eyes paused slightly, and he lifted his eyelids to quietly look at Jin Jumo.
Jin Jumo’s heart suddenly ached sharply.
Rong Mochen hugged her tightly, her graceful body resting in his hands, as if it stirred something within him.
Rong Mochen lowered his head, dropped a tender kiss beside her ear, then picked her up and strode towards the bedroom.
The result of their abandon ended with Rong Mochen taking a cold shower.
Seeing someone come out of the shower dripping wet, Jin Jumo felt a pang of guilt, but more so, heartache.
"I’ll demand it back doubly in the future."
Jin Jumo’s ears turned slightly hot, and she pulled open the corner of the blanket.
Rong Mochen relaxed and lay down.
His cold body touched Jin Jumo’s skin, and she shivered almost immediately.
Rong Mochen noticed and frowned, about to get up the next second.
"Just like this," Jin Jumo said, bravely lying into his ice-cold chest.
"Rong Mochen, I don’t know how to comfort you," Jin Jumo whispered after a long silence in his arms.
"You being by my side is the best comfort."
"..."
Jin Jumo bit her lower lip hard, leaving a white mark, "I know your relationship with Brother Rong is deep. He even risked his life to save you, resulting in his left leg being disabled. And yet, for me..."
Rong Mochen tensed his thin lips, lightly gripping Jin Jumo’s shoulders and pulling her slightly away from his embrace, looking at her peach blossom eyes filled with complex guilt, "Little Mo, whatever I do, it’s not related to you. The responsibility is mine, not yours."
"How could it have nothing to do with me? If it weren’t for me, Brother Rong would have his child now, he loves children so much." Jin Jumo felt heavy-hearted.
Even though Tang Ruan was vile, the child was innocent.
Despite it being four years ago, she believed Tang Ruan caused her grandfather’s death. Upon learning she was pregnant, she wanted to bring her to justice, but she truly had no intention of harming the child in her womb.
Moreover, the child was also Rong Sinan’s flesh and blood.
Tang Ruan committed countless wrongs, but she shouldn’t let the child and Rong Sinan bear the consequences!
But she couldn’t blame Rong Mochen for when she, pregnant, was in a "car accident," resulting in three deaths. The shock and pain he suffered were beyond words.
Ultimately, he acted against Tang Ruan to avenge her and their child!
"I owe him."
Rong Mochen said in a low voice, "But it has nothing to do with you. I owe Brother a left leg, and I owe him a Rong Family."
Jin Jumo’s eyes brimmed with warmth, "No, it’s us."
Rong Mochen’s black eyes contracted, deeply staring at Jin Jumo.
"Now we are one. We can’t change the past, but in the future, I will be with you, together repaying what we owe Brother Rong."
Jin Jumo’s tone was gentle yet firm.
Rong Mochen felt a rush of warmth envelop his heart, tightening his strong arms as if to embed her into his body, his deep voice slightly hoarse, "It’s a promise."
Jin Jumo looked up, a slight smile on her lips, nodded heavily, "Yes, it’s a promise."
The tremor in Rong Mochen’s heart lingered, staring at Jin Jumo’s beautiful face, and his thin lips slowly pressed down onto her slightly parted red lips.
At this moment, the two shared mutual understanding, embracing each other with inevitable intense affection.
Jin Jumo was led downward by him, and by their usual rhythm, it would only take half an hour.
But today, somehow, it wasn’t happening yet...
Jin Jumo’s cheeks turned bright red, biting her lower lip anxiously looking at Rong Mochen.
Rong Mochen’s eyes were intensely dark, his pupils dazzlingly bright, his high nose touching her nose tip, breathing heavily like someone with a severe cold.
"Rong, Rong Mochen..." Jin Jumo’s voice trembled intensely, too unusual, making her a bit uneasy.
"Wait a little longer." Rong Mochen kissed her cheek.
A few more minutes passed, and the situation showed no improvement.
Jin Jumo held her breath, her peach blossom eyes flashing with noticeable anxiety and helplessness.
Jin Jumo froze for a moment, realizing what he intended to do, her cheeks immediately flushing red, "..."
Listening to the sound of water flowing from the shower, Jin Jumo clutched the corner of the blanket tightly, covering herself from head to toe, not even a strand of hair exposed, as her face under the blanket reddened enough to fry an egg.
