To Be Yours Again
Chapter 56 In the rain
CHAPTER 56: CHAPTER 56 IN THE RAIN
After a passionate morning, they spent the rest of the day in bed.
But towards evening, Gianna wanted to go get some birth pills from the pharmacy not far away.
Mason had wanted to go with her but he had to prepare dinner before she gets back.
Not long after she left, the rains started to fall.
He sighed.
She hadn’t taken an umbrella.
Maybe the rains would stop soon and she would be able to get back.
He focused on the meal he was making.
Each passing minute, the rain got heavier and heavier.
And it was getting late.
Mason brought out his cellphone and shot her a text.
Mason: Where are you?”
He paced to and fro waiting for a reply.
When his phone beeped, he pounced on it and unlocked it.
Gianna: I barely even made it to the pharmacy.
Mason shot her another text.
Mason: Where exactly are you?
Gianna: At the front of Joe’s printing service.
Oh, that was like a street away.
He quickly grabbed an umbrella and hurried out of his apartment.
Covering himself with an umbrella, he headed down the street in search of Gianna.
He caught sight of her taking cover in front of Joe’s printing service.
She had her arms wrapped around herself.
He quickly stood beside her and took off his hoodie.
She stared at him.
“I thought you were coming to get me in your car or something.”
“Oh...I totally forgot that would have been better.”
Gianna chuckled.
“I guess we could manage this.” He let out.
Sighing, she walked into the rain with him covering her with the umbrella fully.
He was barely inside the umbrella and he was getting drenched but he couldn’t care less.
“Sometimes, you can’t help but miss the thrill rainy days brought as a child.” Mason began.
“I don’t miss it.”She snapped.
“You can’t certainly not miss playing in the rain. My brothers and I often did that. I can still remember my mom joins in sometimes.”
“There’s nothing fun about a rainy day or night. It’s dull and annoying.”
“I think it’s refreshing.” He argued.
“More like depressing.”
He frowned and did something impulsive just to prove his point.
He threw away the umbrella.
“Well...I don’t think anyone’s too old to feel that childish delight again.” He said moving away from her, sighing as she got completely soaked.
He froze when he turned to face her.
She was standing still, she looked straight up terrified.
He quickly came in front of her and held her hands.
She was trembling and with how her eyes darkened, it didn’t seem to be just from the cold alone.
She looked scared, mortified, devastated.
She had been serious about how the rain made her feel depressed.
She continued being quiet and just kept looking lost.
Mason looked around for the umbrella to find it on the other side of the road, ruined.
He recalled her trauma.
Could it? Could it have happened on a rainy day?
He couldn’t let her continue standing like this.
He felt so bad.
He had to do something, he had to say something.
“It’s just rain, it’s just rainy, it’s just the rain.” He murmured.
She shakily looked up at him.
“I like the rain. I feel it washes away the dirt, it washes away what we would like to forget and leave the soul as clean as a new day.”
He swallowed as he brought her hand to his shoulder.
“People always say they want to be as bright as the sun, they mostly think sunshine brings happiness, I think dancing in the rain does too.”
Mason had no idea what he was doing but he kept going as he swayed her with him.
He was getting her attention, he was bringing her back to this moment, back to him.
And then he started to sing “Kiss me” by Sixpence None The Richer.
Gianna had always hated being in the rain, getting drenched in the rain.
It always made her go back in time.
To the girl lying on the bed struggling as she was being defiled, the sound of the rains was in her ears, the loud sound of thunder as she cried and screamed.
Even when they finally had enough of her, she laid naked on the bed unable to move, tears sliding down her cheeks as the rain kept falling.
But right now, it felt as if someone was finally giving her a blanket, wrapping her up in a blanket, a warm blanket.
He paused singing and said.
“It’s just the rain. You can do anything you want in the rain.”
Tears pricked her eyes as she looked up at Mason.
His arm curled around her waist and he started to sway more.
She was reminded of how fun it used to be to play in the rain.
She placed her hand on his shoulder and smiled up at him, caught in his infectious, playful mood.
He continued singing and it was as if the rain kept falling for them.
He was totally beguiling and she felt bewitched.
He kept twirling her around in his arms and she squealed when he let go of her.
She lifted up her hands wondering if the rains had always been this refreshing.
She felt so alive.
Her eyes caught sight of the umbrella across the street.
She laughed. “I thought you came to help me out from getting wet.”
“I like you wet right now,”He replied with a smile.
Her cheeks grew hot.
“We should better head back...Race you home?”He suggested.
She scoffed.”No way am I racing with you, you’ve got long legs.” She pointed out.
He chuckled. “Okay, you can run ahead of me, I would wait here for a while before catching up with you.”
She eyed him and took off.
In no time, he caught up with her.
She ran towards him to pull him backwards but he laughed and moved away from her.
On getting close to the apartment building, he slowed down and let Gianna win.
She couldn’t stop smiling as they got to his apartment.
He opened the door hurriedly and rushed in.
She frowned watching him disappear into his bathroom.
He came back with a big towel which he wrapped around her.
“You should change out of the wet clothes so you won’t catch a cold.” He said.
She felt touched.
He always made her feel loved.
“You should change out of yours too. I don’t want to catch a cold.”
He smiled and nodded, then he pressed a kiss to her forehead.
