Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 1266
?Chapter 1266:
But he didn’t respond. He just turned and walked away without looking back.
With bodyguards blocking the path, Hadley couldn’t get far.
“Miss Pearson, could you please wait here?”
“Hadley!” Eric quickly caught up. “Don’t be upset! There are still details we need to sort out… Remy and Linda are giving different ounts. We can’t say for sure that Remy isn’t lying, right?”
“Is that so?” Hadley turned to him, a faint smile tugging at her lips.
“Then tell me, why would Remy want to frame her?”
“We won’t know until we investigate—”
“There’s no need.” Hadley took a shallow breath and looked away. “What’s the point? Even if she’s proved guilty, I can’t do anything about it. So, let’s just leave it. There’s nothing worth digging into.”
“Hadley…” Eric felt a pang in his heart.
It was clear that Hadley was deeply disappointed.
“I’m not trying to protect her—” he reasoned, but Hadley cut him off.
“It’ste. I’m tired. I want to go home. Will you take me back, Mr. Scott?” With the Scott family’s bodyguards around, she wouldn’t be able to leave without Eric’s permission. And truthfully, she did look worn out.
“Alright,” Eric said, nodding. “You need rest.”
After leaving Silver Vis, they drove back to Milnd Road.
Neither of them spoke during the ride.
Hadley leaned against the window, eyes shut tightly. She could feel his gaze on her—steady and unrelenting.
Not long after, the car pulled up outside the building. Eric walked her up to her apartment.
“Make sure you get some rest,” he advised. He could tell she was still upset. Before leaving, he said quietly, “I won’t let this go. I’ll get to the bottom of this and give you an exnation. Trust me on this, okay?”
Hadley hesitated, but then gave a faint smile and nodded. “Alright.” Since he said so, she would wait. She wanted to see who would be proved wrong in the end. Would it be him or her?

“Until you find out the truth and have something concrete, let’s not see each other,” she added.
Eric froze. “I’ll look into it right away.”
Back downstairs, Eric turned to Cordell andmanded, “Investigate when Remy and Linda first met and get proof of any financial transactions between them.”
“Yes, Mr. Scott.”
Two dayster, Eric returned to Milnd Road.
Not too early. Not toote.
Melba opened the door for him and greeted him, “You’re just in time. Dinner will be ready soon.” She then gestured inside and added, “Hadley and Joy are in the living room.”
“Alright.” Eric walked in, a file folder tucked under his arm.
In the living room, Hadley sat with Joy, helping her read aloud.
Because of her health, Joy hadn’t been going to school. So, Hadley took it upon herself to teach her at home. Luckily, Joy was only four. She hadn’t missed much yet.
Joy was the first to notice Eric. Her eyes lit up with a cheerful smile. “You’re here, Eric!”
