CHAPTER 108: HOW THE DAYS ARE SPENT

"The only thing that the players do here is training and training and getting their asses kicked, and then more training.

They sleep in a damn tent with one rough blanket.

In the name of learning from the soldiers and guards of the city, they all get beaten up one sidedly. And after doing all that, in the little free time they get, they go out and see the actual city... for an hour or so.

That’s all the time they have left of their days.

Even before the dawn hits them, they are up and running laps around the city’s training grounds, getting treated like a dog again."

In the middle of the city’s plaza, sitting by a water fountain was a pretty lady in a casual dress.

At first glance, she might look just like any other citizen around her.

Holding a skewer from a famous stall with a mixed barbecue meat and grilled vegetables helped her blend into the surroundings even more.

Her brown hair was now cut short, unlike how they used to be when she was in the Cathedral, her eyes, however, were just as sharp as they had been back then.

"Perhaps I should thank that unknown bastard. Had he not defeated me in the cathedral, I wouldn’t have moved to the next dungeon and gotten my hands on something actually useful."

She raised her hand and placed it between her eyes and the sun above.

On the hand, there was a ring with a bright red orb, with both sides holding this orb resembling a draconic hand, sharp claws that seemed more ferocious than the eye-like jewels.

"That bastard took everything I gathered, leaving only the drop items... I wonder though, why did he leave the dropped items?

Was he only after the holy items or did he have a conscience or something? Haaa... not that I’d get my answers by talking to myself like an idiot."

She had a disappointed look on her face when she realised how she was robbed once. But then she looked around herself, at the poor players that were too weak to stand on the same level as mere guards of the city, and nodded to herself.

"I thought I knew a lot since I went as far as the 30th floor, but I guess I was still a frog in the well." She conjured some of her darkness and played around with it for a moment, a shadowy energy that seemed just like water.

It was a unique form of Mana, the Mana of the Darkness attribute, something that by nature was fluid and stable.

She had a good grasp of this elemental energy, as well as the sword. Thanks to her increased level from all the farming she did on the 2nd floor, her level was quite high as well.

"It’s not enough..." She clenched the energy in her fist and it disappeared instantly.

The red orb on her finger glowed subtly, but she realised it and calmed herself down.

"That bastard..."

She did not know who it was that attacked her in the Cathedral. All she knew was that person was extremely powerful in terms of both weapon usage and levels.

At the very least, he was ten levels higher than her when they first fought at the cathedral and considering how he was collecting all those holy items, how he knocked down even the government people and the twins, it was certain that this unknown assailant was also a high floor climber.

Perhaps, he had reached an even higher floor than her.

’Considering how he recognized my swordsmanship and countered it perfectly, he was most certainly aware of the 30th floor and That person.’

She had already thought deeply about who he might be or what his goal was or, even where he was right now.

She somehow felt like they were meant to meet again, but she did not know when that time would come.

"All I can do right now is level up and get stronger through quests. I don’t want to lose to that bastard the next time."

She wasn’t going to let it slide.

She may have lost once, but she will get her revenge.

============

She was no normal player. Her skills, possessing a title in a time where players didn’t even know how to use the system interface properly, having 12 blessings that enhanced her stats exponentially, and lastly possessing a diverse set of skills... She had qualities of a high ranker.

Yet, despite all these powers, she wasn’t registered with the A2P2.

However good they might be, she did not feel it necessary to get a licence and reveal her information when she could access the tower without all their procedures.

"That association president is sus as well." As a matter of fact, even her special ring was wary of her when she first appeared before the world.

It was quite strange seeing a relic with an Ego be wary of a person. But then again, this person in question was no ordinary entity.

"Anyway, let’s get back to work now." She finished her lunch and was now ready to continue on with a new quest in this city full of all kinds of quests.

The rewards she was getting were pretty sweet. She had earned quite a bit of coins and was now ready to move up her game.

This time, she was aiming for a quest where the rewards would be stat points. A system quest that would come from a resident.

"Hmm... should I play around a little before that?" At a distance, some of the players were chatting about how the guards were jerks that treated them like pigs.

She would go up to them and tell them how she was able to avoid getting forced into labour and how she was living a better life than them.

She would incite them by saying how the captain went easy on her because she was pretty and that she could help them get out of the training as well.

Helping these poor players had been her routine.

It was how she spent her days here— helping these poor souls, pushing them off a cliff, enjoying the view, and the ravishing entertainment that would follow when they don’t return to their positions within their given times.

Helping them was always fun.

Seeing the happiness on their faces when she helped them and seeing the dread at the end when they were beaten to a pulp by the same guardian captains that had already beaten them when they entered the city.

’At least there’s some entertainment.’

She couldn’t yet go out of the city as she pleased since she didn’t have the required permits.

But once she cleared the quest she was about to take on, she would have a good grasp on the city’s functions.

After that, she would be the one in charge of everything related to the players in this city without them knowing.

’It should fetch a good few coins if I do it right.’

She wanted to level up her skills a little before going into the forest for more hunting.

And the dumb players were the best source of income in these big cities filled with smart Natives.
