Chapter 91: Chaos (Part 1)
CHAPTER 91: CHAPTER 91: CHAOS (PART 1)
"These thoughtless things, daring to speak such words!" Lady sneered inwardly, but on the surface she advised, "Master, don’t say such things in anger. Third Miss is her daughter, naturally, she must also agree to the marriage!"
First Master snorted coldly, firmly stating, "You are the head mistress and the mother of the children, it is only right that you make the decisions regarding their marriages!" He looked at Lady’s gentle and virtuous demeanor and remembered Madam Wang’s tantrum and destruction of the room earlier, feeling disgusted, he frowned. "For so many years, I thought she was educated and reasonable, but never expected..." He waved his hands, indicating he didn’t want to say more.
Joy overflowed from Lady’s heart; last night First Master had hit Taohua, reminding her that his patience with Madam Wang had finally run out, and today’s result was exactly as she had anticipated!
She soothed First Master, comforting him, "She has a childish temperament; after a few days, when she calms down, she’ll understand."
"Hmm!" First Master seemed completely impatient, unwilling to say another word, he responded casually and stood up, entering the cleansing room.
Lady’s corners of the mouth curled into a joyful smile. A man’s affection is merely fleeting; true reliance for a woman lies only in status!
Early the next day, there was a commotion from Madam Wang’s side. Lady hurried over personally, and no one knew what was said behind closed doors in the room, but afterward, Madam Wang seemed utterly deflated, and lay stiffly in bed, silent for two or three days!
Meanwhile, Nanny Fang asked Manager Lai to book an opera troupe and scheduled it for the fifteenth of April. She personally went to various mansions to send invitations, and as soon as the carriage reached the side gate of the Wujin Bo Mansion, the gatekeeper woman stopped her: "Which mansion? What’s the matter?"
Nanny Fang smiled and produced First Master Tong’s name card for the gatekeeper woman to see, saying pleasantly, "I bring an invitation for the Countess."
The gatekeeper woman glanced at it casually, pointing to the alley: "Wait there for a moment, I’ll go in to announce!"
Nanny Fang felt her lungs aching with anger. These people who look down on others; last time she visited, they were polite, addressing her repeatedly, but now it seemed they had turned hostile within a few days.
No matter what she thought, she could only respond with a smile, obediently standing by the door.
After waiting for half an hour without the woman’s return, Nanny Fang leaned over and asked another gatekeeper woman, "Pardon me, Madam, why hasn’t that lady returned yet?"
"The Marquis Mansion is so large, it takes a stick of incense’s time even by sedan chair, just wait!" The condescending tone clearly conveyed that she thought Nanny Fang was from a humble background and ignorant of the ways of the world!
Nanny Fang’s face turned blue, and she was about to turn around and leave when two fine horses approached the alley entrance, each with a young master mounted. One was slightly plump with fair skin but had a rather frivolous look, while the other had almond-shaped eyes, sitting tall with an aura of intimidation that sent shivers down the spine.
Fourth Master Xiao?!
Nanny Fang immediately lowered her head, sidestepping to the side. As the Xuanning Marquis Mansion and the Tong Mansion were related by marriage, she had seen Fourth Master Xiao several times.
Fourth Master Xiao arched his eyebrows and dismounted, not recognizing which mansion Nanny Fang belonged to, but it didn’t slow his pace. He nodded casually at her and tossed his reins to the servant accompanying him, striding inside.
At this moment, a waiting gatekeeper woman came out, kneeling before the other slightly plump and fair-skinned man, "Third Master!"
Nanny Fang was taken aback; so, this was Third Young Master Ren from the Wujin Bo Mansion!
Ren Jun glanced slyly at the woman, commanding, "Stand up!" Then swaggered past Nanny Fang, who secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Just as she was about to turn and leave, Ren Jun suddenly turned back, looked at her, and asked, "You! Which mansion?"
Nanny Fang was startled and lowered her head in panic, replying, "I am from the Baoding Tong Mansion."
"Baoding Tong Family?" Ren Jun tilted his head in thought, and the servant beside him whispered in his ear. He showed a look of sudden understanding and, smirking, narrowed his eyes in a taunting manner at Nanny Fang. "So, it is from Assistant Minister Tong Zhengchuan’s mansion. What business do you have?" He used Second Master’s real name in a bold and arrogant manner.
Cold sweat broke out on Nanny Fang, feeling that Third Young Master Ren’s gaze was harrowing!
"I come to deliver an invitation to the Countess!"
Ren Jun stepped back, suddenly extending his hand in front of Nanny Fang. Though his fingers appeared clean and fair, they carried a strong scent of cosmetics. Nanny Fang, puzzled, looked up at him.
"The invitation!" Ren Jun’s face was annoyed, suppressing his anger, "I’m in a good mood today and will take it in for you!"
Take it in for her? Nanny Fang wanted to refuse, but considering his demeanor, as if he could kick her anytime, she shakily handed over the invitation. Ren Jun took it, waved his hand grandly, and said, "Invitation delivered, scram!" Then disappeared through the door without a backward glance!
Nanny Fang stood at the door feeling weak in the legs, struggling to find the strength to walk!
Just then, Fourth Master Xiao’s voice, seemingly displeased, came from the courtyard, "What are you saying to a woman!"
Ren Jun laughed playfully, "Tong Mansion is hosting a musical... coincidentally, I’m free, let’s join the spectacle!" He laughed heartily, and Xiao’s cold snort was heard.
Upon hearing it, Nanny Fang got goosebumps all over, sensing something ominous ahead!
"He really said that?" Lady paused while sipping tea, showing surprise as she looked at Nanny Fang, "Fourth Master Xiao was there too?"
Nanny Fang nodded and recounted the situation at the time, saying, "Madam, I feel that Third Young Master Ren has questionable intentions; his visit may cause trouble, right?"
This wasn’t what Lady foresaw; she hadn’t expected Third Young Master Ren to learn about the matter. Though she didn’t regret rejecting the marriage, Wujin Bo Mansion was nonetheless powerful politically, and both First Master and Tong Shen Zhi were in governmental positions. If they ended up provoking petty individuals, it could be disastrous!
If Third Young Master Ren indeed visited, regardless of his character, it would benefit Shenzhi to aim for good relations with him; having another ally was better than having another enemy.
Thinking this, new anger welled up. If it weren’t for Madam Wang, she wouldn’t be stuck in such a predicament, forced to decline the marriage and offend the Wujin Bo Mansion!
Fortunately, the letter to the concubine had been sent, and it wouldn’t be long before things were settled with the Hong Mansion. When the time came, a few dowries would be enough to handle Tong Xiyang, allowing her to deal with matters at her leisure!
"Keep this quiet, first. Inform Manager Lai, if people arrive, have them go to Shenzhi’s place. With him and Tianqing accompanying, nothing should occur!" Lady advised but still reminded, "There will be many people that day. Keep an eye on the young ladies for me."
Nanny Fang understood the significance, nodded and said no more.
