CHAPTER 302: CHAPTER 301: THE BIRDS HUNT ON THE BASE 3

Just as Luciel was looking outside, he saw that some birds had started attacking the villa.

The birds were intelligent, so when they saw Treyton and the others leave the villa, they must have realized there were still people inside.

Wes immediately led half of the people remaining in the villa to defend against the birds trying to break in.

The attackers were a mix of half-meter-sized birds and some smaller ones.

Since the birds could fly, the defenders started shooting at them as soon as they got close enough. The bullets hit, but they didn’t do as much damage as expected.

The birds’ feathers had gotten thicker—stronger—so it took a bunch of shots to bring even one of them down, especially the bigger ones.

Grant, Aldo, and a few others focused on shooting from the ground, while Wes handled the ones that got too close. He used his earth ability, pulling up chunks of dirt and stone from the garden to knock birds out of the air.

When the birds hit the ground, the others rushed in and finished them off with glaives or swords before they could get back up.

There were still a lot of birds flying around, and the group wasn’t able to take them down that quickly. It took time to kill each one—especially the bigger ones—so their progress was slow.

To make things worse, everyone was starting to get tired. They’d been moving constantly, without any time to rest.

Their bullets were also running low. With how fast they were firing, their ammo was getting used up quickly. After just a few minutes, Wes’s group had to switch out with Mia’s team so they could catch a breather, refill their energy, and restock their ammunition.

Wes’s group could’ve kept going a bit longer if they pushed themselves, but no one wanted to risk injuries or casualties. So they made the smart choice and rotated out without hesitation.

Treyton had already stated that they were in charge of protecting the people in the villa and had been ordered not to fight too aggressively against the birds. This was to ensure they wouldn’t overexert themselves, especially since there were still many birds remaining.

With so many birds in the sky, they had to hold their ground for as long as possible. To do that, they needed to fight efficiently and stay mindful in order to sustain their efforts over time.

Suffering injuries or casualties would only reduce their overall efficiency and effectiveness.

Mia’s team immediately took over and continued where the others left off, focusing on taking down as many birds as they could while keeping things efficient and controlled.

As for Wes’s group, the moment they stepped back inside the villa, they started resting. Astrid and the others—who weren’t part of the two main defense teams—were already busy reloading guns and organizing bullets for the next round.

They were preparing extra magazines and ammo in advance so that anyone could grab a loaded weapon and get back into the fight without delay.

After Mia’s group went back inside the villa to rest, Wes’s team headed out again to take over.

At first, everything was going smoothly. They were holding their ground well—until three massive hawks, each over a meter long, suddenly swooped down from the sky and launched a fierce attack.

The moment Mia’s group saw the new threat, they rushed back outside to help even though they barely rested because they knew that Wes’ team couldn’t handle all of those birds.

They were already busy dealing with the half-meter-sized birds and the smaller ones swarming around. Now, with three huge birds added into the mix, things got a lot more intense.

Both Wes’s and Mia’s teams tried shooting at the big ones, but their bullets barely did any damage.

The hawks’ wingspans were massive, so every time one of the big birds flapped its wings hard, it sent powerful gusts that threw off the group’s formation.

To make things worse, those birds had razor-sharp claws and beaks. Everyone was trying their best to dodge and avoid getting hit, but that made it harder to stay in formation—and even harder to focus their attacks.

Still, despite the chaos, they held their ground and kept fighting.

But the battlefield was a mess. Some of them were forced farther away from the group, and that made them easy targets for the smaller birds still circling.

Even with their efforts to defend, a few people got injured in the process.

Then, from the window, Luciel spotted something else—two more of those giant birds were flying in fast, heading straight for Wes’s and Mia’s team.

"Ah, f*ck..." Luciel muttered under his breath, unable to stop the curse from slipping out.

Luciel knew that, given the number of birds attacking the base, he still had to go out and fight—even though he hadn’t gone out with Treyton and the others earlier.

He had tried to delay going outside for as long as he could, but he hadn’t expected that he’d be forced to act within just half an hour of the birds launching their attack on the base.

He couldn’t just stand by and let the others suffer serious injuries—or worse, die—because of those birds.

They had been training and working hard for the team, and it would be a waste if they were to die or be permanently disabled just like that.

He couldn’t let that happen, especially since he still needed them to keep working if he wanted to maintain his comfortable life in the future.

He could watch others die without feeling anything; however, he would still be a bit unhappy seeing the people who had to work hard for his comfortable life just die in the hands of those birds.

So, even though Luciel still didn’t want to go out, he grabbed a sword that Treyton had made and stepped outside to face the birds.

As soon as he was outside, Luciel immediately began to deal with the birds around them.
