CHAPTER 303: CHAPTER 302: LUCIEL IN ACTION

"Slowly head back inside the villa after dealing with half of these birds," Luciel ordered. "I’ll handle the rest."

"Okay," Wes responded immediately.

Luciel ordered them to go back inside the villa after dealing with half of the birds attacking them because the others couldn’t keep up with him.

Wes, Mia, and a few others like Yang and Dan could still fight longer than the rest, using their abilities properly, but the others couldn’t keep going much longer.

They still had to preserve some of their strength to fight later just in case, so it was better for them to retreat to the villa.

Luciel would handle the rest of the birds and draw their attention away so they wouldn’t focus on the villa.

There were other areas in the base with more people, so as long as the birds weren’t too interested in their location, Wes and the others wouldn’t have to fight off too many of those mutant birds.

After giving his instructions, Luciel focused on killing the birds in front of him.

He controlled the vines in his hands to split into three. Two of them thickened and stretched forward, lashing out at the birds attacking him, while the third coiled beneath him, lifting him into the air. From this higher vantage point, it would be easier to fight the birds than from the ground.

Luciel sent the two vines flying—one wrapped around one of the largest birds, the other snatching a smaller one nearby.

When he tightened the vines, the smaller bird was instantly strangled and killed. Unfortunately, even though he coiled the vines tightly around the larger bird’s neck, it didn’t die right away. Its sheer size and the thick feathers around its neck protected it from a quick kill.

The bird screeched and thrashed violently, flapping its wings in an attempt to escape the tightening grip.

Seeing that it was still struggling, Luciel didn’t hesitate. He leapt from his position, aiming straight at the flailing bird to finish it off himself.

Even though the bird was struggling violently and moving around a lot, Luciel still managed to land on it with ease and killed it using the sword in his hands.

The sword he held was sharper than the others Treyton had made. It was one Treyton had worked on himself—purifying it bit by bit and using only the strongest, most suitable metals for sword-making.

Because of that, the blade was exceptionally sharp. So when the vines had already stripped or weakened the feathers around the bird’s neck, Luciel could easily slice through it with a clean strike.

After dealing with the largest bird, Luciel quickly shifted his focus to the remaining big ones nearby. Using the same tactic—binding them with vines and finishing them with his sword—he swiftly took them down one by one.

In just a few minutes, he had already killed all of the large birds along with several of the mid-sized ones that had attacked the villa.

Luciel was no stranger to this kind of fight. He had plenty of experience battling flying mutant birds, and compared to the enemies he had faced in his past life, these were nothing.

He had once fought even larger, stronger birds—and in much harsher conditions—so fighting in midair and taking down flying creatures was something he had already mastered.

As he continued to attack, he made sure to pull the birds farther away from the villa, gradually leading them toward a farther area. While dealing with the last large bird, he glanced back and saw that Wes and the others had safely made it back inside.

Because of his aggressive fighting style and movements, most of the birds had already redirected their attention toward him. Drawing their aggression, he used his vines to lift himself even higher and attacked the birds flying above the villa.

Luciel used one of his vines to lift himself even higher into the sky, getting a better angle on the birds circling above the villa.

From his elevated position, he extended another vine to entangle a large bird soaring high in the sky. Then he leapt onto it, once again using the vine to restrain it and delivering the killing blow with his sword.

Without pause, he targeted another bird, entangled it with his vines, and swiftly ended its life as well.

Of course he was also using another vine to clean up the smaller birds that were trying to attack him while he was dealing with the larger birds.

They were easier to kill, so even though he focused on killing the larger birds, he was still successful in killing the smaller birds that were attacking him.

He continued using such a strategy until he cleaned a large area above their villa. Most of the birds that were left were only the birds with their original size.

Luciel didn’t pay much attention to those birds in their original size as long as they didn’t attack him altogether because they couldn’t do much damage on their own and other people could also deal with them easily, so a lot of them were still left.

After killing the large bird he had been riding, Luciel looked around and saw that there were no other large birds nearby. Most of the remaining ones were flying much higher and farther away from his current position, so he had no choice but to land on the nearest six-story building below him.

Once he landed, he finally had a moment to breathe—and to properly observe the situation across the base.

Even though he’d been at a higher altitude while fighting earlier, he hadn’t been able to take a clear look around. His focus had been entirely on killing the birds swarming around him.

Now, with a better vantage point and fewer enemies immediately nearby, he scanned the area.

In the distance, he could see many soldiers engaged in battle. They were fighting the birds both on and below the base walls, using everything they had.

Several teams were manning anti-aircraft artillery, firing at the larger birds flying around the perimeter of the base. Explosions lit up the sky as the cannons roared, trying to thin out the flocks before they could do more damage.
