CHAPTER 109: CHAPTER 109 CONFRONTATION (2)

"Ember! Mind your tone," he warned, his chest rumbling with a loud growl.

I chuckled bitterly. "Is this what you have to say to me after all the years of suffering? You said you were my father, but you watched me being bullied and harassed... What did you do? When I was starving, what did you do?" My shoulders trembled with emotion.

"Have you ever for once thought about me? You pretended not to see the evil things your precious daughter Maddie was doing to me. You showered her with love and money... But what about me? Am I not your daughter too? Don’t I deserve my father’s love and care?" I burst out.

Tears trickled down my cheeks. No matter how I tried to stop them, they didn’t stop. It was like I couldn’t control my emotions.

"Is that why you brought Alpha Damon here to take revenge for you? Erik got killed because of you, and Maddie got mated to low scums... all because of you!" he yelled.

I scoffed. "Is that how you see it? So you don’t have an iota of sympathy for me? For all the things that I have been through?... You sold me." My voice cracked.

"I did what I had to do. I’m an Alpha before a father. So I did what was beneficial for my pack."

I nodded my head in agreement. It was such a pity that the real Ember was fathered by a scum like him. She is even dead and they don’t know. All she had wanted was her father’s love... but it seemed like she won’t get it in this lifetime.

"Fine. I want to know where my mother is buried... don’t you think it is time that I visit her?" My eyes welled up, seeing the look of disdain in his eyes.

"That won’t be possible, Ember."

"Why? If you can’t love me as a father... why not let me have the chance to meet my mother, even if she is dead?" My voice echoed in the room.

"Because I don’t know where she is buried!" he yelled back at me. His veins bulged out of his throat.

"What?" I whispered in disbelief.

This must be a lie, right? How could he not know where his wife or mistress was buried?

"You are lying to me... stop lying to me!" My voice rose again.

If this was the only thing I could do for Ember for giving me her body, then I would do it.

"I am not lying," his voice lowered. "Your mother had not given birth before we both parted ways. I didn’t know she was pregnant with you. Until one day... she suddenly came to me with you in her arms. She said you were my daughter... and that she couldn’t take care of you." He paused.

"I had no choice but to accept you and raise you. After that day, she left without returning. Until one day, there came news that she had passed away. Where she died and was buried has remained a mystery to this day. I have tried to find out information about it, but I couldn’t get answers." He sighed, his shoulders dropping low.

More tears streamed down my cheeks. "You mean I don’t even get the chance to meet my mother, even though she is dead. I can’t meet my mother, and my father won’t have me. It seems like the universe has cursed me to be unable to gain love from the people that matter to me." A sad smile formed on my lips.

Alpha Caelen’s eyes stared at me with warmth, but it disappeared so fast that I thought I had imagined it.

"That would be all... I won’t disturb you any longer." I turned around and flung the door open. A part of me hoped that he would stop me and apologize for how he had been negligent as a father and how he had sold me.

But his voice never came. I walked out of the room, tears dropping from my jaw. What an irony. My parents were loving and supportive, but I had never known their value. Living in a world where my parents chose to abandon me, and my father maltreated me and even went as far as to sell me, made me realize that I was one of the luckiest people in the world.

At that moment, I just wanted to go back to them and tell them how much I loved them. Even now, I miss their nagging. My shoulders trembled violently. My legs buckled.

The one who has caring parents doesn’t value it, but the one who doesn’t have them longs for it. "What an irony?" I sniffled.

I felt hollow inside. The pain was so excruciating that I found it hard to breathe. Maybe it was better for Ember not to be here. If she had heard what her father had said, she might not have been able to take it.

After I had calmed down, I picked up my broken self and dragged myself into the living room. My eyes fell on Damon. His eyes were on me even before I reached where he was. I wondered if he was going to abandon me too. Maybe not now... maybe in the future.

Would he love me or look at me with despise? After all, the mark on my back only appeared after the lady had helped me shower. What if he finds out? Would he hate me to the extent of deboning me?

My eyes welled up as I stared with mixed emotions. He had been the only one who would fight for me without looking back. My knight in furs.

"Are you okay?" he asked, walking closer to me.

I shook my head as I stood dejectedly. My shoulders slumped, my legs barely holding my weight.

"Let’s go home," I muttered.

He patted my head. His touch was soothing and a warm reminder that I had someone who had my back.

A small smile formed on my lips. I nodded my head. "Let’s go home," he muttered.
