CHAPTER 395: CHAPTER 395; HONEYMOON PHASE 1
Maybe he wasn’t there. Maybe he was still downstairs or in his study. Maybe she could slip in, take a quick shower, and compose herself before.....
She carefully turned the doorknob and pushed the door open.
Her heart dropped.
Huo Ting Cheng was seated on the edge of their bed, still dressed in his black suit, his posture relaxed but his eyes sharp and alert. He’d been waiting for her. Clearly, he’d been waiting for quite some time.
"Hehe... You’re here..." Tang Fei’s laugh came out higher-pitched than she intended, nervous and awkward. She hadn’t expected him to be in their bedroom, lying in wait like this. She tried to mask her nervousness with a mischievous giggle, but even to her own ears, it sounded forced.
Huo Ting Cheng studied her for a long moment, his expression unreadable. He could see her discomfort, her wariness, the way she was preparing to either flee or deflect. He knew exactly why she was acting like this, she was afraid of his questions, afraid of what he’d seen last night.
But he’d made a decision during his long day of contemplation.
He would let it go. For now.
"Take a shower and change into something nice," he said calmly, his voice giving nothing away. "We’re going somewhere."
Tang Fei blinked, caught off guard by the unexpected directive. "Going? Where are we going?"
This wasn’t the interrogation she’d been bracing herself for. This was... something else entirely.
"Just get ready," Huo Ting Cheng replied, standing from the bed. "I’ll be downstairs waiting for you."
He crossed to her, and before she could react or pull away, he pulled her into his arms. The embrace was warm, solid, and reassuring. He held her for several heartbeats, his chin resting on the top of her head, and she felt some of the tension drain from her body despite herself.
Then he released her and left the bedroom without another word, closing the door quietly behind him.
Tang Fei stood frozen for a moment, trying to process what had just happened. No questions. No accusations. No demands for explanations.
Just... a hug. And an invitation to go somewhere.
She shook her head, bewildered but also relieved. She’d deal with his strategy later. For now, she had to get ready.
Glancing at what Huo Ting Cheng had been wearing—that dark, elegant suit—Tang Fei decided she should match his formality. This was clearly not a casual outing.
She headed to the bathroom and took a quick but thorough shower, washing away the day’s stress and the lingering anxiety. The hot water felt wonderful, and she allowed herself a few extra moments under the spray to collect her thoughts.
Once dried and wrapped in a towel, she returned to the walk-in closet and surveyed her options. Her eyes landed on a sleek black pantsuit, tailored perfectly to her figure, professional yet sophisticated, with subtle feminine touches in the cut and detailing. She paired it with a silk burgundy blouse that added a pop of color and a hint of sensuality.
She dressed quickly, then moved to her vanity to apply minimal makeup, just enough to enhance her natural features without looking overdone. A touch of mascara, a hint of blush, and a nude lipstick. Simple, elegant, appropriate for wherever they were going.
Next, she selected a pair of elegant black heels, comfortable enough to walk in but stylish enough to complete the outfit. She fastened a delicate watch around her wrist, chose a pair of small diamond stud earrings, and grabbed a small black clutch bag.
Into the clutch went the essentials: her phone, a compact mirror, lipstick for touch-ups, and a small amount of cash. She hesitated for just a moment, then slipped a small, discreet knife into a hidden compartment in the clutch. Old habits die hard.
Finally, she selected a sweet but sophisticated cologne, something with notes of jasmine and vanilla, and sprayed it lightly on her pulse points: wrists, neck, behind her ears.
One final check in the full-length mirror confirmed she looked polished, elegant, and ready for whatever Huo Ting Cheng had planned.
Taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, Tang Fei left the bedroom and descended the stairs.
Huo Ting Cheng was waiting in the foyer, looking as impeccable as ever in his dark suit. When he heard her heels clicking on the marble stairs, he looked up, and something flickered in his eyes, appreciation, perhaps, or satisfaction.
"You look beautiful," he said simply, offering his arm.
"Thank you," Tang Fei replied, taking his arm and allowing him to escort her toward the front door. "Are you going to tell me where we’re going now?"
"You’ll see," he replied with the hint of a smile. "Patience."
A sleek black sedan was waiting for them outside, with Huo Qi in the driver’s seat and additional security vehicles already positioned for their departure.
Huo Ting Cheng opened the back door for her, and Tang Fei slid gracefully into the luxurious interior. He followed, settling beside her and immediately reaching for her hand.
She let him take it, intertwining their fingers, though her mind was still racing with questions.
As the car pulled away from the mansion, Tang Fei stole a glance at her husband’s profile. His expression was calm, almost peaceful, but she knew him well enough to recognize the calculation beneath the surface.
He was planning something.
The question was: what?
And more importantly: was this a romantic gesture... or a trap?
Only time would tell.
For now, she would play along, stay alert, and see where this evening led.
Because with Huo Ting Cheng, nothing was ever quite as simple as it appeared.
The sedan moved with purpose through the evening traffic, not heading toward the usual fine-dining districts or entertainment hubs. Instead, it navigated the familiar route to the heart of the city’s financial center.
Tang Fei’s brow furrowed slightly as she recognized the path. "We’re going to the office?" she asked, unable to keep the confusion from her voice. This was the last place she expected a night out to begin.
