Chapter 1486: Chapter 1493: Confrontation (1)
The people dispatched by General Li returned in groups, all reporting that they couldn’t find The Emperor and the Empress. Hearing this, General Li became even more unsettled, pacing restlessly outside the Royal study.
Seeing this, a confidant stepped forward and offered a plan: “Great General, the palace is tightly surrounded, they surely can’t escape. In my opinion, they must be hiding somewhere inside. Perhaps, Great General, you should order that Empress Dowager Mo and the False Retired Emperor be brought here for intense interrogation. I don’t believe they won’t come out then.”
Upon hearing this, Li Kaifeng’s face, previously marred by worry, now revealed a sinister smile as he said, “Good idea, I would like to see how they can keep hiding peacefully while watching the Retired Emperor and Empress Dowager suffer!”
After that, he said to the confidant who offered the plan: “You go personally and bring them to me. There’s no need to hide or cover up; it’s best if everyone in the entire palace knows about it!”
Following the orders, the confidant left swiftly with his men.
In Space, Cai Wei turned her head and told Nangong Yi everything she had just seen and heard. Upon hearing this, a storm brewed over Nangong Yi’s handsome face as he clenched his fists and said, “Madam, send me out!”
Cai Wei laughed and said, “Send you out to do what? Your men are all in Liaodan. Sending you out now, could you alone withstand Li Kaifeng’s thousands of elite soldiers?” Nangong Yi replied, “Even if I can’t withstand them, I can’t just watch as my Imperial Father and Mother suffer because of me.”
Cai Wei took his hand gently and said, “Since they are your parents, they are naturally my parents as well. Rest assured, I won’t let them suffer.”
She had her own plans. The reason she did not go out now to stop Li Kaifeng but decided to wait until he brought the Retired Emperor and the Empress Dowager before intervening was to show Empress Dowager Mo her capabilities and thus intimidate her, to prevent her from causing any more trouble in the future.
Nangong Yi knew about Cai Wei’s capabilities and trusted that she could manage. Still, he couldn’t help admonishing, “Madam has Space, but Li Kaifeng isn’t a vegetarian. That man has highly skilled martial arts and is full of tricks. Don’t underestimate him!”
Cai Wei scoffed, “Before absolute martial power, all his so-called highly skilled martial arts and numerous tricks are just child’s play. Just watch, I will make him pay for his ambitions!”
Before long, Li Kaifeng’s confidant escorted the Retired Emperor and Empress Dowager Mo. After several months, the Retired Emperor looked much thinner, probably due to his vegetarian diet, but his complexion was much better than before.
Facing a great enemy, the Retired Emperor remained as serene as an old monk in meditation, showing no outrage at being betrayed and humiliated by a subordinate.
In contrast, Empress Dowager Mo was much more agitated than the Retired Emperor. Although she was renowned for her aloof and proud demeanor, she couldn’t help but erupt the moment she saw General Li, bursting into a loud scolding.
“Li Kaifeng, you rebel, how dare you insolently disrespect the Retired Emperor and my Palace! You are utterly traitorous and will not die a good death!”
Li Kaifeng sneered, “Empress Dowager, you condoned your father in kidnapping The Emperor and Empress, plotting to overthrow the country of Great Jin, your crime of treason and regicide far outweighs my ‘disrespect’.”
“I haven’t? The Emperor is my own son, how could I allow others to usurp his country? You are slandering me!” shouted Empress Dowager Mo indignantly.
However, Li Kaifeng did not listen to her defense, coldly saying: “At this point, the Empress Dowager is still stubborn. It seems, without some methods, you would not admit.”
He then harshly commanded, “Bring the torture instruments here, Mo sinned gravely against the state, plotting against The Emperor and Empress, intending to overthrow the country of Great Jin. Such a venomous woman, if not severely interrogated, will hardly confess.”
