CHAPTER 29: CHAPTER 29: REWARDS

Huo Feng turned the laptop to He Yuchen who studied them.

After a while, he finally realized what Yue Ning was talking about.

He stared at her, and exhaled. "You are amazing Ms. Yue." He praised her, and the girl blushed slightly.

Huo Feng frowned, and corrected him, "Mrs. Huo."

"Uhn?" Yue Ning had He Yuchen asked with confusion.

"Either address as Mrs. Huo or sister-in-law. If you don’t, I might end up throwing you out."

He Yuchen laughed while scratching his head. "Of course Ah Feng, I understand what you’re saying."

"I should get going. Since someone wants to deal with me, I shouldn’t remain quiet," He Yuchen rose to his feet, having a rare look of seriousness.

"It’s good that you still have some sense of awareness."

Yue Ning who was behind Huo Feng pursed her lips trying to prevent herself from laughing especially after seeing He Yuchen’s aggrieved look.

He turned to look at Yue Ning with a polite bow. "Thank you, Sister-in-law for this. You have opened my eyes."

Ding!

[Mission Completed]

There was a notification in Yue Ning’s mind, and she pursed her lips slightly. It seems she had managed to impress him.

’The host can decide to check her reward or stall it.’

Yue Ning heard the system’s mechanical voice, and she immediately chose the latter. She wasn’t willing to see what rewards she had this time around.

"You are welcome, Young Master He. I wish you good luck." Yue Ning nodded at him politely, and he left.

"Thank you for helping out. But I’m quite curious, how were you able to spot the mistake so easily? I can only spot it after a few days."

Huo Feng questioned her. Yue Ning had already come to stand in front of her.

He had his gaze fixed on her intently while hoping he could get answers from her.

Yue Ning coughed slightly while trying to think of a perfect excuse. She couldn’t possibly tell him that it was a skill her system had given her.

"It’s probably luck, and I read some books privately." She found the best excuse and told him.

Of course, Huo Feng didn’t believe her but he didn’t expose her.

"May I return to my seat?" She asked, and he nodded.

Yue Ning happily skipped to the sofa where she had once felt comfortable.

She didn’t pick up the novel immediately.

"System, I want to see the reward."

The white holographic panel appeared, and Yue Ning’s face brightened. The system didn’t cut her bonus this time around.

’Host, would you like to check what skills you could unlock?’ It asked, and Yue Ning instantly nodded her head.

The panel changed, showing a bar which had earlier been blurry, but was now clear.

Yue Ning’s gaze swept over every single skill, and her eyes shone. The only skill which had been activated was the intelligence skills.

But there were lots more such as martial skills, healing skills, etcetera with each skill surpassing and being more expensive than the previous one.

Yue Ning sighed and looked at her points. She only had 10,200 points.

The martial art skill was divided into various segments with each of their points attached to each. It included:

Basic Self-Defense (500)

Weapon Familiarity I (750)

Light Footwork (1,000)

Weapon Mastery II (1,500)

Martial Stamina (2,000)

Agility Boost (2,250)

Pressure Point Strike (3,500)

Yue Ning looked at the skills, and roughly made a calculation. It amounted to about eleven thousand points. Yue Ning felt her heart bleed. It was too expensive.

Holding her chin, Yue Ning observed the panel with a frown. "System, what do I do?" Having no other choice, she asked the system.

’To avoid feeling pressured, there is absolutely no need for you to get all the skills. You can get the first three, and still save enough points in case of emergencies.’

Yue Ning nodded, feeling that the system was correct. With that thought, Yue Ning directly bought the first three skills which caused two thousand two-hundred and fifty points.

As if reminded by something , Yue Ning exclaimed, "System, I recalled that you gave me a special skill when I completed my hidden mission. I didn’t check it."

The system turned silent. It didn’t expect Yue Ning to still recall, after all, it took place just a few ago and she didn’t mention it anymore.

"You thought I forgot, right? I didn’t, hurry up and show me which skill you gave me." Yue Ning urged her.

Having no other option, the system revealed the skill.

Yue Ning pursed her lips feeling disgusted.

"Ability to make someone cry? Is this a skill?"

’Well...’

"You know what, just forget it." Yue Ning didn’t want to hear again. She didn’t expect that the system would be so stingy as to give her such a useless skill.

What she didn’t know was that she would use the skill a lot especially when dealing with Yue Chen.

Yue Ning thought for a while, before closing the panel, and returning to reading.

Before long, she asked again. "System, how many points will I earn after reading a book?"

’That would be made known after you have completed a book. Points are awarded per book, and the amount of points are decided by the genre of the book.’

Yue Ning nodded, finding her words to be satisfactory. She thought she would earn a lot of points since the novel was horror-themed, and the system had specifically chosen it for her.

But reality hits differently.

Elsewhere at the Yue’s Mansion, Yue Chen walked into the large living room with a sour expression. Her mom who was on her phone noticed, and she dropped everything she was doing at once, and walked to her.

Leading her to take a seat, Mrs. Yue questioned. "Xiao Chen, what’s wrong with you? Why the long face?"

Yue Chen grumpily had her seat. "I visited the Huo’s Corps today." She informed her mother.

"So why do you look devastated?" Mrs. Yue probed. She didn’t understand her daughter’s expression at all.

"Yue Ning was present, and Brother Feng ignored me. He ignored me for the very first time, and it was because of that bitch!" Yue Chen cried, grievance written all over her face.

Mrs. Yue was silent for a while.

"You don’t have to worry about this. Mother will take care of this," Mrs. Yue assured her, and Yue Chen caught the malicious glint in her eyes, and her lips curled dangerously.
