Transmigration Into A Novel: Save The Second Male Lead
Chapter 30: Huo Mingjie’s Truth
CHAPTER 30: CHAPTER 30: HUO MINGJIE’S TRUTH
"Mother, are you willing to take care of Yue Ning for my sake?" Yue Chen questioned with her head lowered, but it didn’t hide her malice.
Mrs. Yue chuckled for a while. "Of course. She dared to compete with my daughter, I would naturally have to take care of her." Her eyes narrowed as she began plotting various ways on how to take care of Yue Ning.
Yue Chen beamed. "I knew mother treated me best. I love you mom," she expressed, and the older woman rubbed her head dotingly.
"Xiao Chen, it would be best if you stay away from Young Master Kang. We don’t want Young Master Huo to misunderstand the situation between you both."
Mrs. Yue kindly reminded her.
Yue Chen was silent for a while. She really didn’t have affection for Huo Feng at the beginning as she had her eyes set on Kang Beichen.
But she couldn’t pinpoint the reason why her feelings changed recently. She felt more impatient with Beichen and thought about Huo Feng frequently. It was a strange phenomenon.
But she didn’t bother about this change. Instead, she thought she had finally come back to her senses.
"I understand you, Mom. I’ll find a way to break my relationship with Brother Kang."
Yue Chen nodded obediently, and her mother nodded with a smile.
____________
Two weeks passed uneventful. Strangely, Huo Feng seemed to be getting closer to Yue Ning who didn’t mind. Rather, she enjoyed it.
Her relationship with Huo Yan also improved. During the past few weeks, Yue Ning didn’t stay idle.
If she wasn’t helping Huo Feng with work, she would be reading a novel. If she wasn’t doing any of those, she would be completing missions.
In these past few weeks, Yue Ning had completed two missions, however, they were quite hard.
Two days ago, Huo Feng brought her to a meeting with foreign investors. The mission was to impress the investors and also make them sign the contract with Huo Corporation.
Although it looked easy, the system added a condition. She had to speak English which was the language of the foreign investors.
When Yue Ning received the mission, she felt speechless. In fact, she felt that the system purposely wanted to get her embarrassed.
Thankfully, in her original world, she was able to learn it and thus completed the mission..
The second mission was to fish out a spy in the company. Yue Ning didn’t have observation skills. She could only rely on instincts and common sense to do so.
Thankfully, she was able to complete it.
Currently, Yue Ning was in Huo Feng’s office, reading a novel as usual. Ever since he discovered that she was quite a prodigy in business, he would always let her follow him around for business meetings.
After all, what could take him and his team a few hours to analyze, the girl could get it done within a few minutes. She was capable, and he was pleased that she was his wife.
Suddenly, the sound of a phone ringing disrupted the peaceful silence between the couple.
Yue Ning frowned. It seemed to be her phone ringing. She checked it and discovered that it was an unknown number.
With her brows furrowed, she picked the call.
"Sister-in-law, I thought you wouldn’t pick up the call. It’s me, Huo Mingjie."
She heard a relieved voice from the other end as well as an introduction.
Yue Ning didn’t reply at once. Instead, she turned to look at Huo Feng whose gaze was fixated on her.
She had a bad habit of always putting her phone on loudspeaker, and today was no different. Her gaze lingered on Huo Feng who didn’t bother to hide the fact that he was listening.
Pursing her lips, she asked softly, "Mr. Huo, why did you call?"
She heard a quiet sigh from the other end, and she frowned instinctively.
"Sister-in-law, you can just call me Mingjie. After all, we are partners."
Yue Ning could feel Huo Feng’s burning gaze on her when Mingjie said those words. She glanced sideways and nearly flinched. His expression was stormy, his pen already twisted out of shape in his grip.
This guy... he couldn’t be jealous, right?
Meanwhile, Huo Feng himself didn’t understand the sharp pang in his chest. He didn’t know why he reacted so strongly, but he instinctively believed Yue Ning. She had placed the call on loudspeaker; didn’t that mean she trusted him?
Yue Ning exhaled lightly when she saw no hint of suspicion in his face.
"Mr. Huo, we are not close yet. How can I address you using your first name? No matter how I see it, it’s wrong." She smiled faintly.
"Forget it, you can address me however you want to," he replied with a soft chuckle.
Mingjie didn’t relent. "Sister-in-law, it’s been two weeks and you still haven’t gotten back to me. I’ve also heard you’ve been visiting Huo Corporation. Don’t tell me you’ve started falling for my cousin? You need to understand...he’s not someone you can fall for."
"Of course, Mr. Huo," Yue Ning responded smoothly. Her eyes flickered toward Huo Feng, who looked utterly speechless at the remark. Was he really that bad in everyone’s eyes?
"But these past few days, Huo Feng has been treating me quite well. I don’t think he is a bad person as he is portrayed to be. Maybe you have gotten it wrong?"
She spoke softly, forgetting for a moment that her defense of Huo Feng was being aired right in front of him.
Huo Feng’s brows drew together. He wasn’t sure whether to be pleased by her defense—or irritated that she was explaining herself to another man.
And then, Mingjie’s voice dropped low, cutting through the silence like a blade.
"If you insist on siding with him... then you leave me no choice but to tell you the truth about my cousin."
Yue Ning raised her eyebrows while wondering what he wanted to say about Huo Feng.
Sensing that she wasn’t willing to give him a reply, Huo Mingjie continued.
"Do you even know how my cousin inherited his position? He forced out half of the board and crushed anyone who stood in his way."
"Some of those men never recovered. He doesn’t hesitate to sacrifice anyone for his ambition—do you think you’ll be an exception?"
Yue Ning’s and Huo Feng’s eyes met, and Yue Ning narrowed her eyes.
