CHAPTER 293: WILL I GET THE ANSWER FROM THIS GUY?

After Hae-Jin said that, there was silence.

And in that silence, I could hear my heart beat louder than anything else. In front of me was Hae-Jin who was smiling like there was nothing wrong.

But I was lost.

I was confused.

Seo-Jun never took his partners home?

When was such a thing ever mentioned in the novel?

I rested my back on the chair, tapping my fingers on the arm of the chair and thinking deeply. Why was it that Seo-Jun never took his partners home?

I mean, it’s not like Hae-Jin would know even if I asked him, so that was out of the question, but still...

"Does that answer your question?" He asked but I closed my eyes.

I wish it did. But it only made me more curious.

"No, it didn’t," I said and he scratched the back of his head, looking rather awkward.

"Well, sorry about that but I don’t know anymore." He said. "Boss might look like a pretty open person to serve but he has a lot of secrets and we don’t have the right to pry, so..."

I think I understand that.

While Seo-Jun looks like he always blurts out whatever comes to mind and never keeps his thoughts hidden, his real thoughts are locked up tight.

He doesn’t just say everything that has to do with her personal life. You know, he’s broken inside, so there is a bunch of stuff he keeps hidden.

Ah, a broken king, you’d say.

You can never know what’s on his mind.

"Then, can I ask another question instead?" I asked and he smiled.

"Of course. Since I couldn’t give you a satisfactory answer, I’ll try my best this time." He said and I nodded.

Just as I thought, he was very much of a simpleton. But that dark side of him that he hides with this bright and simple smile bothered me a bit.

I quickly shook my head.

Let’s not dig into others’ personal lives just because of curiosity.

"Does Seo-Jun ever get jealous?" I asked, yet another hard question to answer. "I mean, has it ever seemed like Seo-Jun was jealous when talking to someone?"

Seo-Jun could very much look at something and say, ’Ah, I’m so jealous.’ But his words and his actions don’t match.

Jealousy isn’t something that simple, you know. It shows in your expression, in your eyes, in your tone, in fact.

And the reason I’m asking this is because... I turned my head away... I wanted to know when Seo-Jun gets jealous.

I can’t tell.

He says it. He teases me as well when he states his jealousy. And sometimes I’m almost too sure that he’s jealous when looking at the others, especially during our first moments together when he was like an enemy I was ready to cut off at the dining table.

That... That was certainly jealousy.

But these days, I can’t tell. I can’t tell if he’s telling the truth, if he’s jealous, or if he’s rather relieved. Why’d I ask if he’s relieved? It just seems that way.

I might be crazy but I feel like Seo-Jun is relieved that he doesn’t own me completely and actually shares me with three other Alphas.

Crazy, right?

It shouldn’t even be a topic of discussion but it keeps nagging at the back of my head.

And if he’s indeed not jealous and rather relieved, I wish to know why.

But... Will I get the answer from this guy?

He was looking at me rather puzzled, as if I had asked a toddler’s question to him.

"Boss never gets jealous." He said and my eyebrows slightly furrowed. "If he likes something, he simply takes it. And if he doesn’t like someone owning something, he takes it as well or destroys it. I don’t think he’s ever exhibited any form of jealousy."

I looked at him, surprised. That’s a given for someone like Seo-Jun but... he doesn’t get jealous? Does he really not know?

Does this mean Seo-Jun has never mentioned anything about me or the other Alphas in front of his men in regards of his jealousy?

Even when I intentionally cut him off for dinner conversations and avoided him? He didn’t say anything to them?

Then, if his retaliation back then wasn’t out of jealousy, then what was it?

I think I was slowly coming up with a headache.

I brushed my temple and then looked up.

I don’t think I was mistaken when I noticed him acting out back then.

And... Something I seemed to have overlooked is... Seo-Jun confessed with his own mouth back then that he was jealous. He didn’t say it outright, but he said something along those lines.

(Check Chapter 164 ending)

And now it makes me wonder how much he shares with his subordinates.

"Hae-Jin, how close are you with Seo-Jun?" I asked.

"Hm, an arms’ length, I think." He said. "He doesn’t like people being too close."

Ah, that’s a straight contradiction of someone who loved to be surrounded by both sexes, naked, in fact.

What was this?

It looked like this guy knew Seo-Jun a lot but at the same time, didn’t know him at all.

Seo-Jun was like a puzzle. A hundred pieces of plain white puzzle board. It looks like you’ve gotten the right piece but it’s just a similar one.

You... You don’t know anything.

I began to press my fingers together. It looked like the more I dug into the kind of person Seo-Jun was, the further I got from the truth.

Seo-Jun, I know, is loud, expressive, sexual, hot, shameless, a narcissist, and does whatever he wants. But the Seo-Jun I’m finding out from this guy is someone cautious who keeps his own people at arm’s length.

Am I being played right now?

Did Seo-Jun ask this guy to tell me all this?

No, I was with Seo-Jun the whole time and he didn’t even play with his phone till he got to the meeting. So, unless he knew something like this was going to happen and I was going to be stuck with Hae-Jin for the day, he wouldn’t have time to frame a new image for Hae-Jin to display in front of me.

And it didn’t look like Hae-Jin was lying either.

According to his eyes, he was being sincere.

This was his knowledge of Seo-Jun.

"Did I make you more confused?" He asked and I nodded, honestly.

Okay, let’s get this straight.

According to Hae-Jin, Seo-Jun is a cautious person who doesn’t take his partners to his house. He doesn’t get jealous because he can have whatever he wants. And he doesn’t spill his thoughts recklessly either.

He’s like a cunning fox who knows when to howl in the morning and when not to howl.

This makes things complicated.

Not only did I not get the answer to my question once again, but more curiosity burned inside me, and I was eager to find out more.

At least, something that would pull these clues together.

But if I asked Hae-Jin any more questions, I might just end up getting even more confused so let’s hold off on the questioning for now.

"Thank you," I said.

"What for?" He asked. "It seems I only made you more confused."

"Well, you did but... I’ve come to realize a few things." I said and rolled my eyes away smoothly.

Seo-Jun had no choice but to live with such sadistic tendencies because they had been woven inside him. Then, did he think it would be better to play the villain and incorporate that sadistic character?

Since he might never be able to get treated, he decided it would be better to embrace it?

I shook my head.

Seo-Jun... Just what are your true thoughts and feelings?

(He wants normalcy.)

"Does your fist still hurt?" Hae-Jin asked and I looked at my wrapped knuckles.

"Well, a bit, but it’ll be fine soon," I said, and he smiled.

"That’s a relief."

"Hm, when you said you were going to get in trouble for my bruised fist, did you mean Seo-Jun would punish you?" I asked, getting up from the chair.

"Well, yes," he answered, rolling his eyes away anxiously. "But it’s not something I can’t handle so it’s fine." He said, smiling again.

Does he have to smile so much?

If I had to guess, Seo-Jun might make him obtain the same injury. Hm, maybe punch a wall?

Aish, that’s bad, but...

"That’s why you should think twice before provoking someone you just met," I said to him and he nodded.

"I’ve definitely learnt my lesson." He said and I nodded. "Do you want to head out now?" He asked.

"Yeah, I want to look around," I said. "And get a cup of coffee as well."

"Then I’ll accompany you." He said.

He was dressed casually in an ash colored shirt with white extended sleeves and a pair of jeans.

Why did Seo-Jun allow him to dress like this if he was head of security? Or did he just not like wearing a suit?

I mean, I wouldn’t either. Even when it’s how many degrees outside, they’re still required to wear a suit.

I’d feel suffocated.

"Let’s head down to the next floor below." He said and we walked out the door.

As we walked out, my eyes caught the receptionist who looked like she wanted to chew me raw. But what could she do? I was her Boss’s favorite.

Hm, was it a wise decision not to ask if Seo-Jun brought his partners to his office?

I don’t know what’s behind that secret door but... I had a pretty tempting hunch.

But after hearing that Seo-Jun didn’t take his partners to his house, I wondered if he didn’t take them to his office either and that secret room had something entirely different from what I was thinking about.
