“Big Brother! Stop playing on your phone~”

After finishing the homework their mom had assigned, Black Bean ran over to the sofa with her little booklet in hand, short legs pattering quickly on the floor.

She hopped onto the sofa and handed the booklet to Ning Yuan, who was busy typing on his phone.

“Check my homework for me! And sign it too.”

“You’re going to break the sofa one of these days.” Ning Yuan was startled, scolded her, then asked, “Why don’t you ask Mom to check it?”

“Mom’s too strict~”

Seeing her pitiful little face, he sighed, set his phone down, and took the booklet to look over her work. But he wasn’t focused at all, his eyes kept drifting toward his phone. As soon as a new notification popped up, he immediately dropped her homework and typed out a reply.

“Who’s that?” Black Bean’s cat-ear headband wobbled as she leaned closer.

“A friend.” Ning Yuan instinctively tilted the phone away to block her view.

“Hm?” She didn’t give up and leaned in even closer. “Is it your girlfriend?”

“You’re still a kid, why are you worrying about my business?”

“But Sis already has a boyfriend!”

“Ning Chu’s pretty. If she wants a boyfriend, all she has to do is wave and one shows up.”

Black Bean tilted her head and looked seriously at Ning Yuan.

“But Big Brother, you’re really handsome too~”

“Oh yeah? Then who’s better looking—me or him?”

Ning Yuan pointed to the TV, where a popular young idol was on a variety show. Lots of girls online called him their prince charming.

“Big Brother’s more handsome!” Black Bean answered without a second thought.

“Seriously?” Ning Yuan lit up with both surprise and disbelief.

“Really! Big Brother’s handsome. Yup!”

He immediately switched his phone to selfie mode, shamelessly admiring his reflection.

“See? I knew it.”

Just then, the sound of the elevator doors opening came from the hallway. Moments later, Ning Chu stepped inside with a dark face.

Black Bean jumped up and ran over happily.

“Sis~ where’s my sausage?”

“Here.”

“Ning Chu, look at this guy on TV. Who’s more handsome, him or me?”

Ning Chu froze—of all things, this was the first question she got when she walked in. She hesitated, glanced at the TV, then rolled her eyes.

“Can you stop being so full of yourself, Big Brother?”

If it were Wen Yang, maybe there’d be a debate. Ning Yuan was clean-cut and presentable, sure, even a bit of a pretty boy in daily life—but compared to a polished celebrity on TV? Not a chance.

“Just answer me.”

“How are you even comparing yourself to him?” Ning Chu shot back mercilessly. “At least he’s got makeup and a styled haircut for the show. Look at you—you haven’t even washed your face today, have you? It’s already afternoon!”

“...”

Ning Yuan clutched his chest dramatically, as if her words had wounded him beyond repair.

Clearly, it was Ning Chu’s taste that was messed up!

“Damn it, I’m so pissed off.” Ning Chu grumbled as she kicked off her shoes. “I went out with a classmate who said he wanted to find a job to make money for food. Wen Yang and I walked with him for an hour, but he turned his nose up at every single job!”

“He said handing out flyers was beneath him, moving packages at a warehouse was too tiring— Even day jobs, he was picky! He might as well starve!”

And thinking about how her date with Wen Yang tonight would still cost them a hotel room... just made her angrier!

“Sis~” Black Bean tugged on her sleeve. “Big Brother was just talking to a girl.”

Ning Chu froze. Her frustration melted instantly, replaced with curiosity and excitement.

“Who?”

“I didn’t see~”

She rushed over to the sofa, leaned on the armrest, and gave Ning Yuan a sharp look.

“You’ve been chatting with Lily, huh?”

Ning Yuan scratched his head awkwardly before nodding.

“Yeah.”

“How long? Any progress?”

“Uh... just since yesterday.”

He paused, then frowned a little and asked, “Didn’t you say she was shy and kind of aloof? Why does she seem... not really like that?”

“When she’s online, she’s a little more... outgoing.”

“A little?”

Ning Chu thought back to when she’d first met Lily, when she was bombarded with a flood of sex toy shopping links.

Who knew what other wild things that girl had pulled online? For all she knew, Lily was already calling her brother “hubby” on the internet!

She could guess what Ning Yuan was worrying about, so she corrected herself.

“Okay, not a little—a lot more outgoing.”

“She’s a succubus, right?”

“Mm. Why?”

Ning Yuan hesitated.

“I just... prefer girls who are more innocent.”

“Oh, don’t worry about that!” Ning Chu puffed up her soft chest with confidence. “She’s definitely innocent! She’s almost twenty and hasn’t even had a boyfriend yet!”

“For real?”

“What, a succubus can’t be innocent? Look at me—am I not innocent? You’re stereotyping!”

“...”

Ning Yuan stared at her. How could someone who once dragged her own brother to review adult films together possibly count as “innocent”?

Not to mention—she’d only been a girl for half a year and already landed a boyfriend.

Over New Year’s she was barely ever home, her face always glowing and rosy, looking healthier than ever...

If anything, Wen Yang was probably being drained dry!

When he didn’t answer, Ning Chu got annoyed. She grabbed a slipper and hurled it at him.

“I think she’s a good girl,” Ning Yuan dodged to the side and quickly changed the subject. “Why don’t you check Black Bean’s homework? I’m busy.”

“Busy flirting, huh?”

“Flirting...” Ning Yuan glanced at his phone chat history. Honestly, it felt more like she was the one flirting with him.

The girl was way too forward—sometimes the things she sent were so bold and fast he couldn’t even keep up.

...Well, she is a succubus.

“Black Bean, come here.”

Ning Chu sat on the sofa, pointing at a mistake in the workbook.

“How did you get this one wrong?”

Having already finished her sausage, Black Bean licked the stick and shuffled over.

“Oh~ I wrote it wrong!”

“Be more careful with your homework!”

“Okay! Next time for sure!”

“Go fix it.”

Seeing no other mistakes, Ning Chu’s tone softened. She rubbed Black Bean’s head and handed the booklet back.

Then she turned her curious gaze back to Ning Yuan.

“Big Brother, let me see your chat logs.”

“No way.”

“The heck are you two talking about that I can’t even look?”

“It’s... nothing special?”

Ning Chu narrowed her eyes.

“Big Brother, want to meet her? When school starts, you can drop me off. You’ll definitely get to see her.”

“Who knows, maybe you’ll even have dinner together, maybe even start dating?”

“That...” Ning Yuan’s heart skipped a beat.

He really did want to meet her. The “experienced veteran” on the other end of the screen, the supposedly shy and aloof girl Ning Chu described—what would she really be like face-to-face?

He was tempted.

“Alright, maybe.” He nodded, trying to look reluctant.

The corners of Ning Chu’s lips curled upward into an innocent little smile.

“Big Brother, I’m out of money.”

“...”

Of course she had an ulterior motive!
