Chapter 104 - 21: Escape I
CHAPTER 104: CHAPTER 21: ESCAPE I
The next day.
Su Ziyu didn’t see Daisy. The one who brought him food was Nicole, who was petite and delicate in appearance. This female warlock, with a girl-next-door vibe, was very polite and gave a ladylike curtsy before leaving.
"Such a pretender!" Melissa grumbled discontentedly after she left.
Su Ziyu glanced at her, his expression calm as he said, "Hurry up and eat. Today’s training is doubled."
The City of Freedom is very dangerous.
Melissa was the weakest one among the group, but it was also impossible to leave her here alone, so Su Ziyu had to make the most of the time to train her, any improvement in strength was better than none.
Melissa had a great foundation.
Whether it was because she had taken magic potion or for some other reason, Melissa had agility and speed far exceeding other women. Her biggest flaw was power; women are inherently lacking in strength. Even having survived the demon hunter’s magic potion trial, she still couldn’t compare to a regular male demon hunter.
"A round of Gwent card game?" Van Helsing seemed completely normal today.
Perhaps Jenny’s death had saddened him, bringing back many past memories. However, demon hunters are incredibly tough warriors, and a day’s time was enough for him to adjust his mindset.
"Sure." Su Ziyu smiled.
Leaving behind the sulking Melissa, he stood up and said, "Continue training five thousand times. You must turn the footwork of the White Crow Swordsmanship into a conditioned reflex of your body."
So, the two men happily began a round of Gwent card duel.
Time passed bit by bit.
"Damn it. Why did I lose again?" Van Helsing looked a bit frustrated; he almost always lost more than he won when playing with Su Ziyu.
Thud thud thud.
Just then, a rush of footsteps approached, and Alice, looking quite anxious, hurried over and whispered, "Lord Inid requests your presence."
What happened?
Su Ziyu and Van Helsing exchanged a glance, stood up, and headed outside.
"Continue training," Su Ziyu looked back at Melissa and said, "I will check when I return in the evening."
The hall over there.
When Su Ziyu and Van Helsing entered, they saw Lady Inid sitting at the long table with a solemn expression. Beside her was Lady Judy in a red gown, and a wounded female warlock lay on a chair, with Elena tending to her wounds.
This female warlock hadn’t been seen the day before, she was quite severely injured, having taken three arrows to the back.
"The sisters of the Secret Magic Society were ambushed by the Eternal Flame Church," Inid stood up and said solemnly to Van Helsing, "It was done by the Flame Rose Knight Order."
"Philomena might have also fallen into their hands."
Van Helsing seemed to recognize the female warlock named Philomena, and at this moment his face turned somewhat grim.
Demon hunters have a long lifespan.
Because they often face dangerous monsters, sometimes they owe favors to people.
"What’s your plan?" Van Helsing asked solemnly.
Lady Inid looked at Su Ziyu beside her and said slowly, "We must find a way to rescue them. The time left for us is running out. We need your help."
Su Ziyu thought for a moment, then said, "When do we move?"
"Now," Lady Inid took a deep breath and said, "There is a teleportation array here that can reach near Kolon."
Teleportation?
Curious, Su Ziyu followed Lady Inid to a certain underground chamber. This operation involved five people: Su Ziyu, Van Helsing, Inid, Judy, and Alice.
The female warlock’s teleportation device looked like an array.
It had many mysterious runes on it.
Since he hadn’t activated the ability of Master of Language, Su Ziyu couldn’t understand it.
A dizzying whirl followed.
When they regained their senses, they were already on a towering cliff.
"Hold onto me," Judy the witch said as she took the initiative to hug Su Ziyu around his waist, and then the two of them jumped off the cliff, which was over a hundred meters high.
A fierce wind howled.
After Judy cast some sort of magic, their falling speed gradually slowed, finally landing on the ground as softly as a feather.
Alice’s figure followed closely behind.
Van Helsing was bestowed with some kind of magic by Lady Inid, and he too gradually floated down.
One cannot help noting.
Compared to the female warlocks, the demon hunters’ magic looked like simple tricks; their ability to cast spells wasn’t even on the same level.
Lady Inid was the last to descend.
She used a half-transparent crystal ball to discern the direction and said firmly, "This way."
"The distance shouldn’t be far."
There were hoofprints left here not long ago, left by the Flame Rose Knight Order, composed of zealots from the Eternal Flame Church. They are extremely hostile to witches, and even people studying alchemy might be captured and judged by them. These are elite warriors, well-equipped, with weapons made of anti-magic metal, and much knowledge from the Demon Hunter School has fallen into their hands.
The group accelerated their pace.
They finally arrived near a valley by late afternoon; there were many signs of battle here, and a violent explosion seemed to have partially collapsed the cliff.
"We’re too late," Lady Inid sighed and turned around.
One, two, three...
In front, there were five burned-out pyres, with a few skeletal remains in the ashes.
Judy’s expression seemed somewhat fearful, involuntarily moving closer to Su Ziyu’s side, seemingly worried that she might end up like that one day.
Van Helsing didn’t say a word.
He reached out and sifted through the ashes from the burning fire, searching carefully one by one, finally pulling out a melted, unrecognizable pendant, severely melted but could faintly make out a partial bird’s head, somewhat like a raven.
"Let him be alone for a while," Lady Inid seemed to know something and said softly.
Su Ziyu quietly watched the burned-out pyres.
They had been burned alive.
In his Spiritual Perception, there seemed to be faint echoes of those piercingly mournful female wailing, a cold aura lingering here, filled with resentment, unwillingness, and pain.
That’s the witch’s curse!
They cursed everything in their dying moments. The agony of being scorched by flames made them thoroughly loathe everything.
But unfortunately, they weren’t strong enough.
Their curse only added a breath of the undead here and did not harm those executioners. It’s said that when a very powerful female warlock was executed in the past, a rain of fire descended from the sky, and her curse turned the entire land into a wasteland, with ghostly figures wandering every night.
Van Helsing knelt in silence for a long time in front of those pyres.
Then, he stood up, clenched the melted pendant in his hand, and said solemnly, "Let’s go."
