Traveler of the River of Time and Space
Chapter 38: Ruins 1
CHAPTER 38: CHAPTER 38: RUINS 1
There are Corpse Ghosts.
Su Ziyu spotted a creature crawling on the ground and chewing on something from far away, resembling the Living Corpse Ghost he saw near the sewers the other day, but slightly larger in size, with much more swollen dark red muscles on its body.
"Stop the car." Su Ziyu signaled Pasha to stop the car, then took out his modified BTL82M Anti-Material Sniper Rifle.
This Anti-Material Sniper Rifle is too heavy.
Su Ziyu didn’t bring it inside Southern Cross last time, so now it’s a good time to practice. The combat strength of a Living Corpse Ghost is far more powerful than that of an ordinary Corpse Ghost. That night, he saw a Living Corpse Ghost stand up to a Warrior wearing Exoskeleton Power Armor. This kind of monster, even when facing Exoskeleton Power Armor, isn’t much weaker, and to take it down requires the fire suppression from teammates.
The weight of the BTL82M is really hefty. Su Ziyu climbed to the rooftop with it, set down the tripod, then lay down to aim at the distant Living Corpse Ghost.
The estimated distance between them was about six hundred meters.
Bam!
A muffled gunshot rang out.
The tremendous recoil made Su Ziyu’s shoulder ache a bit. This gun is completely different from others, with several times more recoil force. Probably only those equipped with mechanical limbs could easily withstand it. The BTL82M is a single-shot Anti-Material Sniper Rifle, with far more killing power than other sniper rifles. Su Ziyu originally aimed at the Living Corpse Ghost’s head, but ultimately hit its neck, and the terrifying killing power directly blew the Living Corpse Ghost’s head off.
Awesome!
That Living Corpse Ghost was left with a headless corpse twitching there, soon completely silent.
Meanwhile.
Inside the high walls of Polaris, Leon, who was constantly circling with others inside a huge warehouse, couldn’t help but pause, his expression excited as he said, "That gunshot! An Anti-Material Sniper Rifle?"
"Those bastards have finally come to reinforce us!"
Bang.
A shadow with terrifying muscle tissue lunged forward, swinging a thick, long whip of flesh that seemed like a growth organ attached to its arm, slithering like an octopus’s tentacles. Leon got momentarily distracted and failed to dodge, with half of his arm being ripped off, exposing various bionic components inside.
"FUCK!"
The bionic being didn’t feel much pain, and Leon rolled away to gain some distance, then ran outside the warehouse without looking back.
He needed heavy fire support!
"So many people have died." Zoe cautiously held her gun and said.
At the entrance of the Polaris camp, there were quite a few bodies, some belonging to Freelancers, and others to the Scavengers living there, with seven or eight exploded vehicles blocking the entrance, and several Living Corpse Ghost carcasses nearby. Some human bodies were mauled beyond recognition, and not far away, Su Ziyu saw the body of a person wearing a Western cowboy outfit, almost having perished with a Living Corpse Ghost. He was already in tatters, but still had half of a mechanical arm intact as if it had been bitten off by a Living Corpse Ghost.
Su Ziyu had a faint impression of this person; he would sit outside the tavern every night, seemingly one of the one-eyed woman’s subordinates.
"This place isn’t safe."
"Follow me, I know where there’s Exoskeleton Power Armor!" Pasha said gravely.
The group walked through the entrance.
The stall selling grilled rat meat ahead had already collapsed, with scattered bullet shells on the ground, and several Indian corpses were being gnawed on by seven or eight irradiated rats. These irradiated rats had pupils glowing slightly red and pounced directly at Su Ziyu and the others upon seeing them.
Bam!
Su Ziyu drew his pistol and shot one down, then swung a black blade sideways to kill another.
Radiated rats are easy to deal with.
One hit cripples them. These irradiated rats are the size of small dogs, probably coming from the sewers.
Bang.
From the direction of the junk pile came the sound of grenade explosions, the distance was quite far, indicating there were still people fighting there. Probably hearing the sniper rifle shots from outside, the tavern door on that street suddenly opened, and a one-eyed woman along with five people rushed out. One of her arms was already severed, simply bandaged, and she ran out with the support of others.
"Help!" The cry for assistance was heard from far away.
Pasha turned to glance back, instantly dragging Su Ziyu to run, Zoe beside them also turned pale, quickly following behind to escape.
Three Living Corpse Ghost shadows appeared from the roof.
One of them showed very apparent signs of mutation, with a large amount of fleshy tumor-like tissue covering its body, and the limbs barely resembled anything human. It looked unlike the Corpse Ghosts from the sewers, rather resembling those they saw near the junk pile that day, who had many such mutated tumors on their bodies.
The one-eyed woman who led the charge was somewhat dumbfounded upon seeing only three people outside.
She thought reinforcements had arrived.
Now, it was completely a dilemma, and during a fleeting moment of hesitation, a man beside her was tackled by a Living Corpse Ghost, followed by the sound of intense gunfire.
"Retreat!" The one-eyed woman decisively commanded.
On this street, they couldn’t outrun the Living Corpse Ghosts, afraid even before catching up with Su Ziyu and the others they would all be killed. They were forced to shrink back into the tavern, fortunately, the Living Corpse Ghost with the most obvious radiation mutation seemed to smell something, abandoning them to rush towards Su Ziyu.
"This way!"
Pasha led Su Ziyu into the high-walled area, where the gate had already been opened, with about a dozen Freelancers’ bodies scattered nearby, including a man wearing Exoskeleton Power Armor. His body was twisted in a bizarre manner, as if some ghostly thing had broken him in two by brute force, leaving a large hole at the chest with organs spilled out.
To the right were a few overturned armored vehicles with many blast marks, indicating there had been a quite fierce battle.
Beep.
A metal door was opened.
Pasha led Su Ziyu inside, quickly using fingerprint access to open a secret door, revealing a small armory.
Directly ahead were three large metal racks, originally holding three sets of Exoskeleton Power Armor, but now one set had been taken away, leaving only two in the racks.
"Quickly put them on!"
Su Ziyu decisively picked up a rocket launcher, saying, "I’ll hold off that creature."
His biggest trump card is Time Acceleration. Su Ziyu didn’t know if while wearing Exoskeleton Power Armor, he could still unleash such astounding speed. This thing is quite cumbersome, as all Exoskeleton Power Armor sacrifices agility for greater strength and protection.
He hadn’t used Exoskeleton Power Armor before.
Rumble!
Su Ziyu fired a rocket directly at the approaching creature outside, and in the midst of the violent explosion, the creature was blown away, with parts of its body missing, but it didn’t seem to have died, swiftly getting back up once fallen, although it didn’t charge again, seemingly climbing along the wall according to the sounds.
