CHAPTER 490: CHAPTER 246 SURROUNDING_3

Come to think of it, he hadn’t really shown Alka his combat strength.

Though, on paper, his stats were the best on the team.

Over the past few nights, he had also modified and repaired these constructs, and they were ready for a real test.

Moreover, his strength had reached Seven Spirals, placing him at an upper-middle level. With the help of his constructs, he could be considered an expert in group battles.

Hearing this, everyone nodded. They gathered slightly closer, then backed up a little to give him space.

Although this pack of wolves was moving stealthily and was numerous, they didn’t pose too much of a threat. The others were ready to see what Simon could do.

Since Alka had mentioned earlier that day that they might encounter danger, Simon was appropriately equipped.

The most conspicuous item was the backpack he wore. It was so large it extended nearly from his shoulders down to his waist, making it look like he was carrying a giant box.

Various protrusions and attachments adorned the box. Aside from Alka, no one else understood what these things were.

A faint beeping sound started.

The wolves didn’t attack rashly. Instead, they emitted ominous low growls, the beeping making them even more vigilant.

Simon simply raised his right hand and snapped his fingers.

"Combat mode. Lock on. Fire at will."

With these three commands given, the four Sentry Patrol Planes hovering above them immediately glowed red.

Four red beams shot out.

"AWOOO!"

Pained wolf howls rang out. Two wolves had their heads pierced by the red beams. One was shot through a hind leg and collapsed. Another, further away, barely dodged, but its fur was singed.

"All that fur makes them vulnerable to fire," Alka remarked with a sudden smile, watching the scene.

Spurred by the pained howls and the Sentry Patrol Planes’ attack, the remaining giant wolves immediately charged at them.

Several huge ribbons shot out, spiraling around the group and sweeping away all the lunging wolves.

A gentle song arose, yet within it, a faint, piercing note could be heard.

As the song swelled, Magic Power focused on Simon.

"Now they’re taunted by you. As long as you’re alive, they won’t attack us. Go on, move a bit further away," Julia said with a smile after she finished her song.

Anyone who didn’t know better might have thought they were abandoning Simon.

But this was also to let him have his way.

Pink Magic Power and rays of sunlight descended, enveloping everyone.

Before Simon’s eyes, Alka and the others vanished.

Alka’s Dream Clouds could only grant him complete Invisibility within the Dream Realm; when used on others, it could, at most, make them appear hazy.

It created an illusory sense of touch, leaving one somewhat disoriented.

But Chadite had learned how to achieve optical Invisibility, using it in conjunction with the Dream Clouds.

While they couldn’t vanish completely from the giant wolves’ sight, it at least reduced the wolves’ aggression.

The combination of these two effects, along with Julia’s taunt, instantly diverted the wolves’ attention.

After all, one couldn’t expect magical beasts to possess high intelligence; they were merely somewhat stronger wild animals.

Watching his companions vanish, Simon chuckled.

"Thanks." The words had barely left his lips when flames erupted from the tail end of his backpack. As he leaped, the jet propulsion carried him into the distance.

The surrounding giant wolves immediately gave chase, their speed incredible, catching up in almost the blink of an eye.

"So, what kind of taunt is that? I don’t think I’ve seen you use it before," Alka asked.

"It’s only effective on animals. Now Simon is nature’s enemy," Julia explained briefly.

Then, they all turned their attention to Simon’s battle.

After landing, Simon’s left palm transformed into a slender, sharp blade.

He spun, raised his arm, and stabbed forcefully upward.

Scalding wolf blood splattered onto his face, but by then, a metal mask already covered it.

He ducked under another wolf’s lunge and rolled sideways, simultaneously withdrawing the blade. As he rose, he used the momentum from pulling it free to slash outwards, slicing a wolf clean in half. Blood and viscera spilled onto the ground, and the metallic tang of blood instantly filled the air.

He raised his right hand, extending his index finger.

His index finger, part of his Treasure, was already enveloped in a blue glow. The moment he raised it, a beam of light shot out, piercing the giant wolf attempting to ambush him from behind.

Four red beams shot out around him, piercing two more giant wolves and igniting the fur of several others. This forced the burning wolves to roll on the ground, abandoning their attack on Simon.

The entire sequence of attacks was as fluid and seamless as a graceful dance, all completed in the blink of an eye.

As more openings appeared around Simon, even more giant wolves charged at him.

The backpack emitted visible shockwaves, generating a blast of air that swept away the lunging giant wolves.

Another burst of jet propulsion launched him into the air. A throwing spear then materialized in his left hand. It was one of the two they had retrieved from the armory, though he had modified and shortened it.

He hurled it with all his might. Another spear instantly appeared in his hand, and he threw that one too.

The two throwing spears flew one after the other, heading straight for the alpha wolf that stood in the distance issuing commands.

Its size was no different from the other giant wolves, but it always stayed on the periphery of the pack, and its howls changed the pack’s attack patterns. Simon had keenly observed this and concluded it was the pack leader.

The backpack’s jet propulsion had a time limit. Besides enabling longer leaps, it could only sustain short periods of levitation.

As he threw the two spears, his levitation time ran out. The moment he began to fall, three spherical objects dropped from the base of his backpack.

One Sentry Patrol Plane flew behind him and ejected a circular hook. It latched onto his backpack and flung him towards the alpha wolf’s location.

A violent gale suddenly swept in, striking Simon from mid-air like a heavy hammer and sending him flying sideways.

Simon didn’t remain stationary upon landing; instead, he immediately rolled.

A putrid stench and a wave of hot air brushed past his ear.

The alpha wolf’s enormous maw snapped shut right where he had been. It had used its Wind Hammer to deliberately knock him into that spot.

This alpha wolf is clever.

He rolled to evade and immediately scrambled to his feet. The alpha wolf was already where he had just landed, snarling at him with its jaws agape.

If I hadn’t dodged, I would have been injured.

Several Wind Blades shot past, slicing through the trees behind him and instantly shattering a corner of Simon’s mask.

"I really underestimated you, beast," Simon muttered, touching the blood on his cheek.

"AWOOO!"

At the alpha’s roar, the giant wolves that were still alive from the earlier encirclement of Alka’s group began to converge on Simon.

Just then, explosions rang out.

The three spheres Simon had dropped while airborne exploded, spewing out massive flames, similar to Alka’s Cross Flame.

The flames engulfed the nearby giant wolves, setting their fur ablaze. This sent dozens of them rolling on the ground in agony.

The other giant wolves were now terrified and seemed unwilling to continue fighting Simon.

Such a heavy toll made even the alpha wolf prepare to turn and flee.

However, the moment it turned, it saw the four Sentinels already aiming at it.

"Now, I’m the one surrounding you! Hahaha!" Simon’s laughter echoed from behind it.
