CHAPTER 856: CHAPTER 856: I SAID I’D TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOU
After a brief moment of self-comfort, Clara Thornton lifted the quilt and got out of bed. When she saw the marks on her body, she stiffened again.
Looking back at the bed, a small flower that had dried out was blooming.
Alright, it really is gone.
Suddenly, the door swung open, and Thomas Quincy walked in, looking refreshed. Clara realized she wasn’t wearing any clothes and quickly hid under the covers, wrapping herself up.
Seeing Clara’s actions, Thomas sneered.
"I’ve already seen everything, what’s there to be shy about?"
Clara lightly bit her lip, "Can you leave? I need to get up and get dressed to wash up."
Thomas nodded, leisurely saying, "Alright, but be quick, we still need to go somewhere."
"Where to?" Clara asked him in surprise.
"To get married."
Upon hearing those two words, her eyes widened instantly. What did this mean? Get married? Her and Thomas? Did she hear wrong?
"..."
"Are you serious? I remember mentioning something last night, but we’re both not in control of our own fates anyway."
The main thing she remembered was that Nancy Nash seemed to be his fiancée. When she found out that Thomas had such a woman, she felt sorry for him, thinking he got the short end of the stick.
Although she often found Thomas annoying, she had to admit that she acknowledged his strong capabilities.
Thomas looked at Clara and said, "I said I would take responsibility for you."
Clara blinked her eyes. Had he said that? Why didn’t she have any impression of it?
"Don’t you have a fiancée? I’ve met that Nancy Nash, she looks alright, but her mind isn’t too sharp."
Thinking about her conflict with Nancy, Clara felt a wave of frustration. Were she and Nancy born as sworn enemies?
"The Quincy Family’s ancestral rule forbids illegitimate children."
Clara felt his thoughts were a bit all over the place and asked in surprise, "What illegitimate child? I haven’t had your illegitimate child."
Thomas’s gaze swept over her abdomen subtly and he said faintly, "We didn’t use any protection last night. Are you sure there’s none?"
"I..." She was instantly speechless.
"But I never planned to take someone else’s man. Why don’t we just forget about this?"
That’s what Clara was thinking in her heart.
Thomas’s handsome face darkened, and he gritted his teeth, "I will go to the Nash Family to cancel the engagement, so take back your idea."
Clara’s eyes shifted; did she just hear him indicate that he didn’t seem to have any feelings for Nancy? Was it unavoidable?
So last night, because Thomas didn’t seek other women, he chose her?
Does this mean he might have a slight good impression of her, which is why he didn’t look for someone else?
Clara couldn’t help but let her thoughts run wild.
She was suddenly swayed.
"Stop dawdling, my patience is limited," Thomas said domineeringly, as if not allowing her to argue. He glanced at her again and said, "Or do you want me to help?"
"No need, you go out first."
Thomas turned and left, giving the room back to Clara.
Only then did Clara climb out of bed. A new set of clothes, a style she wouldn’t usually choose, was already placed beside her. She had no choice but to wear it.
After all, her own set of clothes was already beyond salvageable.
Ten minutes later, Clara was ready and stepped out.
Once Clara changed into the dress, she looked completely different, just like when she attended the banquet back then.
Thomas’s gaze swept over her, darkening almost imperceptibly, and then he said, "Let’s go."
