CHAPTER 102: CHAPTER 102: IVY SUMMERS BREAKS INTO THE MORGUE TO SAVE SOPHIE

"Ivy!" Ella Morgan chased down and saw Ivy Summers heading to the basement floor, quickly grabbing her, "That’s the morgue, what are you doing there?"

"Haven’t you guys checked the morgue?"

Ella was stunned, thinking for a moment, everyone assumed Sophie wouldn’t be there, so naturally, they hadn’t looked, "It seems we haven’t been there."

Ivy Summers decisively headed for the basement floor.

Ella usually seemed bold but was actually timid; the morgue, a place in the hospital where the dead are kept, sounded eerie.

Ella was scared, wanting to retreat, but her legs instinctively followed Ivy Summers.

When the elevator reached the basement, Ivy turned around and said, "If you’re scared, you don’t have to come down with me. You can wait upstairs."

"No." Ella clung to Ivy’s arm, "I’d better stick with you. Two people are always better."

Ivy nodded, walking out of the elevator. She moved slowly, not because she was afraid, but because her wound ached with every step, making it painful and slow to walk.

After a few steps, they were stopped by the on-duty staff of the morgue, who looked at them and said, "Do you know what this place is? You can’t just come and go as you please, get out of here."

Ivy didn’t move, "My child might have come here, please let me in to look."

"Your child?" The staff looked at Ivy in hospital scrubs, pale-faced with injuries on her face, thinking something must have happened, maybe mentally, otherwise, why would she be looking for a child here.

"I’ve been here all along, haven’t seen any child."

"Mommy..."

Ivy suddenly lifted her head, feeling as if she heard Sophie calling her again.

Ivy abruptly moved forward, the staff hurriedly stopped her, "I’ve already told you, no child is here. You can’t just come in here—leave now."

"I heard my child calling me."

Ivy kept walking forward.

The staff looked at Ella, who was also wide-eyed in confusion, clearly not hearing any sounds.

Ivy pushed past the staff, disregarding everything and heading forward as if convinced Sophie was here, recklessly pushing open a room door.

The staff got a bit angry, "What is wrong with you? I’ve told you there’s no way your child is here, leave now."

"Ivy, there’s always someone guarding here every day, and Sophie wouldn’t come here for no reason. This place is for the bodies of the deceased; we should go back."

Ella grabbed Ivy. The place felt eerie the moment she stepped in, the cold seemed to seep into her bones.

Ivy looked back at her, "Didn’t you hear it? It really is Sophie calling me."

Ella was a bit dazed because she really hadn’t heard anything. Seeing Ivy’s determined and certain eyes, Ella felt a chill down her spine.

"Ivy, could it be that you’re..." having an illusion.

Before she could finish, Ivy said again, "Listen, it’s Sophie calling me, she’s calling for mommy."

The two quieted down with Ivy’s words, but there was not a speck of sound, not even the wind here.

Yet Ivy resolutely pushed past the staff, taking advantage as he was still stunned, she rushed in.

"Hey, you..." The staff was about to chase after her, but Ella hugged him tightly.

"Ivy, go find her, I’ll hold him back for you."

Though she didn’t hear anything and wasn’t sure Sophie was here, Ella knew Ivy wouldn’t leave without searching, so she took the plunge.

The staff struggled to get free as Ella clung to him like a kangaroo, shouting, "Sorry, sorry, sorry, please, just let her look! She’s hallucinating; if she doesn’t find her child, she’ll go insane..."

Ivy gritted her teeth, quickly pushing open one door after another, the cleaning room, the autopsy room, finally reaching the mortuary...

The staff immediately shouted for other staff members.

But Ivy seemed insane; no one could stop her.

Her eyes were determined, muttering, "Sophie is calling me, Sophie is calling me, Sophie..."

"Ah!"

Ella, still struggling with the staff, heard a piercing scream emanating from the mortuary.

A ringing sounded in her ears, and she jumped off the staff and rushed over.

Inside, she saw a row of cold corpse storage cabinets, and beside them a tiny body curled up, pale and quiet as if not breathing.

Ella’s eyes widened, her legs went soft, and she collapsed to the ground.

Sophie is really here?

Ivy, disregarding everything, rushed over, her trembling, icy hands reaching out as she knelt to tightly hold Sophie in her arms.

Touching Sophie’s cold face, the fear in Ivy’s heart reached a peak. Sophie’s been missing for a day and a night, which meant she spent that time in this mortuary filled with bodies.

A child... in the mortuary are ice-cold storage for bodies, much colder than outside. Ivy couldn’t imagine how Sophie survived a day and night here.

Her hoarse voice raised a broken cry, "Sophie... Sophie... Mommy’s here, Sophie... Sophie, open your eyes and look at mommy, alright? Sophie... Sophie..."

Ivy kept calling for Sophie, yet Sophie remained motionless.

Sophie’s body was cold like ice. Ivy developed a terrible premonition as she slightly loosened her hold, held her breath, and extended her trembling fingers, slowly placing them near Sophie’s nostrils...
