Unexpected Love: The Chief Auctioneer's Decision
Chapter 150: Ivy Summers: I’m Pregnant!
CHAPTER 150: CHAPTER 150: IVY SUMMERS: I’M PREGNANT!
The next day.
After Ivy Summers had just finished dinner, Nina Summers, Holly Sutton, and the others came again, but they were stopped by the bodyguards at the entrance.
Holly Sutton, in a loud voice, questioned, "Why aren’t we allowed in? I am Ivy Summers’ grandmother."
The bodyguard replied, "Without Miss Summers’ approval, not even ancestors can enter."
The bodyguard’s words angered Holly Sutton, and Nina Summers chimed in, "Grandma, it’s obvious cousin is doing this on purpose. She deliberately has two bodyguards standing here to keep you out."
"Outrageous, she’s turned against us!"
Holly Sutton took out her phone and called Ivy Summers.
Ivy Summers didn’t pick up.
So Holly Sutton shouted at the entrance, "Ivy Summers, do you remember that box of your mother’s from years ago? If you don’t come out, I’ll burn that box."
Dead silence.
No one responded to her.
Holly Sutton let out a cold snort, "Let’s go."
At that moment, the door opened.
The two turned around to see Ivy Summers with an expressionless face. Holly Sutton had a look of smug triumph as if to say, You’re still too young to challenge me.
"You still know how to come out."
"Bring me my mother’s box!"
"Okay, come see President Holloway with me, and I’ll return the box to you."
The President Holloway Holly Sutton referred to was the one who wanted Ivy Summers to marry yesterday.
Holly Sutton threatened, "Otherwise, I’ll burn that box, and everything inside will be gone."
Ivy Summers gritted her teeth.
She remembered the box. After her father died, she and her mother were kicked out of the Summers Family. Her mother didn’t have time to gather her belongings; everything was taken by the Summers Family people.
Her mother didn’t care about those things except for one box. Her mother knelt at the Summers Gates for a day and a night to get it back.
Unfortunately, the Summers Family mocked her, making her kneel for a day and a night, but they never returned it.
After that day, her mother fell severely ill and, before dying, held her hand and told her, If the opportunity arises, you must retrieve that box. The contents are very important, even more so than that million-dollar bracelet.
Ivy Summers clenched her fist. She had seen that box before, just an ordinary wooden box, very light to hold, with a lock that wouldn’t open without a code.
Ivy Summers didn’t understand before why her mother would rather suffer such humiliation to retrieve it, and she still doesn’t understand now.
But her mother must have had her reasons for doing so.
She couldn’t bear to see something her mother cherished so much be destroyed.
"Fine."
"That’s more like it. I am your grandmother; I won’t harm you. Go change your clothes and come with me."
Ivy Summers changed into an outfit and came out. Holly Sutton glanced at her, her eyes briefly flashing with darkness.
Ivy Summers looked much like her mother, both were natural beauties who outshone ordinary people even without extra adornment.
But people who are too beautiful are never easy to control, just like her mother, who, even after marriage, clung to a fantasy that wasn’t hers.
And that fantasy completely blocked her path in life.
Holly Sutton sighed, looking at Ivy Summers, "Ivy Summers, after all these years you have called me grandma, I advise you, once divorced, don’t covet things that aren’t yours. Obey and marry the person I arranged for you. Don’t follow your mother’s old path."
"My mother’s old path, what do you mean?"
"Do you know how your mother died?"
Ivy Summers frowned, "She died of a severe illness."
"Ha." Holly Sutton chuckled coldly twice, "How naive."
Ivy Summers’ heart trembled at the words, and her expression suddenly changed.
Her mother did die of a severe illness, but from Holly Sutton’s words, it seemed there was more to her mother’s death.
"Make it clear."
Holly Sutton didn’t continue the topic, "Let’s go. Once you meet President Holloway and get that box, you’ll naturally know how your mother’s death was well-deserved."
Holly Sutton walked ahead, with Nina Summers holding her hand, asking, "Grandma, wasn’t it said that Ivy Summers’ mother died of illness?"
Everyone thought so.
But in reality, it wasn’t...
"No." Holly Sutton’s face was deep, "She was too beautiful, wanted too much, offended those she shouldn’t have, so she had to die."
"Then how did she really die?"
Holly Sutton’s expression tensed, "Why do you need to know so much? Don’t ask unnecessary questions. Some things aren’t for you to inquire about."
Holly Sutton was unwilling to talk any further, so Nina Summers had to give up with a pout.
Once in the car, Ivy Summers’ thoughts lingered on Holly Sutton’s words.
Her meaning clearly suggested that there was another side to her mother’s death.
But ever since her mother’s illness, she had stayed by her side, with nothing unusual happening; it was just a severe illness.
What other secret could there be?
That box, what secret does it hide?
Thinking about it, they soon arrived at a restaurant’s private room. Nina supported Holly walking in front, while Ivy walked behind them, Nina’s lips continually curled up.
Outside the private room, the door opened, and Holly gestured to Ivy, "I’ve already got your mother’s box placed inside."
Ivy looked over, and the box was indeed on the table.
The next second, Nina pushed Ivy in with force.
"Cousin, you have a good chat with President Holloway, grandma and I will be leaving first."
Once Ivy entered the private room, she noticed a peculiar smell.
It wasn’t like perfume, more like incense, but stronger than ordinary incense, causing her head to spin.
Yet, Ivy could assure herself it wasn’t something like a drug, otherwise the man inside should be dizzy too.
The man stood up upon seeing her. He was Leo Holloway, appearing to be in his fifties.
Leo was awestruck upon his first glance at Ivy, "Are you Ivy Summers?"
Ivy’s eyes were solely on the box; she reached to take it, but Leo pressed his hand down on it, "Don’t be hasty, your grandma said you’ll only get the box back if you behave, sit down first."
"What does President Holloway want, just say it directly."
No beating around the bush from Ivy.
Leo smiled broadly, but his gaze made people uncomfortable.
In the car, Ivy heard Holly say this man’s fortune was good in recent years, he made money, a total nouveau riche.
Yet his wife died a few years ago; he has many women but can’t have a son, so he wants to marry a young one to have a real heir.
The Summers Family had business collaboration with him, and once at a dinner, Leo took a liking to Nina.
Naturally, the Summers Family didn’t want Nina to marry away, so they mentioned her.
Holly also said in the car it was because Nina had a boyfriend, so she let her have this chance, advised she cherish it.
Ivy felt like laughing when she heard.
"Your grandma should have told you, I need a wife to bear me a son, and you’re very beautiful, the child will surely be beautiful too. I heard you just divorced, lost a child - isn’t this perfect, you have my child, and you’ll have a child again."
Ivy sat down, focused solely on the box.
As Leo spoke, his hand unconsciously rested on Ivy’s shoulder.
Ivy’s gaze sharpened, she stood up to dodge.
Leo glared at Ivy, displeased, "Why dodge? You’ll be my wife sooner or later, do you disdain me?"
"No, with someone of President Holloway’s status willing to marry a woman like me, how would I dare disdain?"
This appeased Leo, "Glad you understand."
"I didn’t expect President Holloway to be so generous. Rest assured, my child will call you dad when born, and care for you in old age."
Leo’s eyes widened, "What did you say, your child?"
Ivy blinked, touched her belly, "Yes, didn’t grandma tell you? I’m pregnant."
Leo slammed the table, "What did you say? You’re pregnant?"
"President Holloway didn’t know?"
Leo stared at Ivy’s belly intently, Ivy continued caressing her belly, "Just past three months. Rest assured President Holloway, the doctor said this baby is a boy, aren’t you wanting a son? I’ll surely give you a boy."
"Damn it!" Leo angrily swept things off the table, "That damned old woman didn’t tell me you’re pregnant."
Ivy looked surprised, "So President Holloway truly didn’t know?"
Leo’s face revealed all his wrinkles in anger.
"President Holloway, don’t blame grandma, she’s helpless. I know you initially liked my cousin Nina, but she didn’t think much of you, crying at home refusing to marry you, so she recommended me. Actually, apart from being pregnant..."
"Enough, shut up!" Leo cared about appearances; hearing "didn’t think much of you," his face turned sour, "Just your Summers Family, dare to disregard me?"
Leo’s face darkened in fury, "Very well, Summers Family, very well, dare to fool me with a pregnant woman, Holly that old hag waiting for me; this deal, your Summers Family won’t get."
"President Holloway, cousin didn’t want to marry you, but I’m willing, I’ll..."
"Get lost! I’ve taken a loss with second-hand goods, and you want to carry a child to marry me, don’t I have self-respect? Get lost!"
Ivy looked sad, picked up the box Leo had knocked to the ground, and turned to leave.
As she exited, Ivy heard Leo phoning Holly, questioning angrily.
Ivy lightly pulled at her lips, holding the box as she left, coldness in her eyes.
At this time, rain started outside; Ivy had arrived in a Summers Family car. She took out her phone to hail a vehicle, but it was rush hour with traffic jams everywhere, a long wait for a ride.
Ivy dared not linger; Holly and the others would certainly return soon.
Ivy bought a transparent umbrella from a nearby store, walking in the opposite direction.
Darkness fell, rain intensified, wind driving it relentlessly against her, making it difficult for Ivy to walk.
Just then, a car quietly pulled over on the roadside.
The window slowly lowered, the man inside furrowing his brow.
"Sir, should we go pick up the missus?"
Damien Lancaster pressed his lips tightly, "Mhm."
