Unexpected Love: The Chief Auctioneer's Decision
Chapter 84: Ivy Summers, Capital Crime
CHAPTER 84: CHAPTER 84: IVY SUMMERS, CAPITAL CRIME
Rachel Shaw had just been rescued. She wasn’t physically injured, but she was terribly shaken, hiding in the hospital room and trembling uncontrollably.
A group of doctors gathered around her, but she held her head, refusing to let them approach.
"Is there nothing you want to say?"
Standing outside, watching the scene, Damien Lancaster questioned Ivy Summers.
Ivy Summers was a bit surprised at first, thinking Rachel Shaw was pretending. But upon closer inspection, the genuine fear, as if she had lost her soul, couldn’t be feigned.
"What happened to her?" Ivy was puzzled at how Rachel Shaw could have suddenly become like this.
Damien Lancaster turned to look at her. "You should be the one to answer that."
"Me?" Ivy Summers looked up to meet Damien Lancaster’s gaze.
Two seconds later, she understood, "You suspect that I did something to make her like this?"
"The Shaw Family searched for her all day. An hour ago, I just found her. By then, she had already fainted. She wasn’t physically injured, but when she woke up and we asked her, all she did was cry. The doctors said she was severely traumatized, on the verge of a mental breakdown, and if it got any worse, she’d go mad," Damien Lancaster said in a low voice.
"Ivy Summers, don’t you think this is going too far?"
No physical injuries, yet she’s on the brink of a mental collapse, almost turning into a madwoman.
You can only imagine how ruthless such means are.
"So, Damien Lancaster, you’re suspecting me of this, aren’t you?" Ivy Summers retorted with a question instead.
Damien Lancaster pressed his lips tightly together, his silence implying acquiescence.
Ivy Summers’ mood had been somewhat better with the children, but now it turned icy cold again.
Inside the hospital room, Rachel Shaw saw the people outside and charged like a frantic beast. Because her leg was still in a cast, her stumbling around, clutching the wall as she charged, looked rather comical. She rushed in front of Ivy Summers and gripped her shoulders.
"Ivy Summers, it’s you, it’s all because of you."
It was all her, because of her.
If it weren’t for Ivy Summers, she wouldn’t have gotten involved with that terrifying man, Noah Scott.
If it weren’t for Ivy Summers, Damien Lancaster would have come to rescue her.
She wouldn’t have suffered so much; it’s all Ivy Summers’ doing.
Rachel Shaw crazily pulled at Ivy Summers, her nails sharp and about to scratch Ivy Summers’ face. Seeing this, Damien Lancaster reached out to pull Rachel Shaw away, "Rachel, that’s enough!"
Rachel Shaw saw Damien Lancaster still protecting Ivy Summers and raised her eyes to look at him. They were bloodshot, looking especially frightening. At this moment, she was like a child who had suffered a great grievance, bursting into tears.
"Damien, why didn’t you come to save me? I only had one opportunity to call for help, and I called you. I only called you. Why wouldn’t you save me..."
Rachel Shaw’s words were heart-wrenching.
Damien Lancaster’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly, guilt surfacing in his bottomless eyes.
If only he had believed Rachel Shaw earlier, she wouldn’t have been tormented for an entire day.
Seeing her like this... even if she was in the wrong, her crime wasn’t this severe.
Rachel Shaw, crying, took a deep breath, "Damien, you didn’t believe me when I told you she wanted to kill me. Now that you see me like this, do you believe me? I almost didn’t make it back today, it’s all her doing."
Rachel Shaw recalled the events of the day, where she was hung by a rope like a toy, continuously thrown from high altitudes by that man, who then pulled her up again, only to throw her back down.
And the rope was not anything like a bungee cord, it was a thin rope. Every time she fell and the rope tightened, she felt like it was about to snap, and she would plummet into an abyss.
This fear of the unknown, over and over again, she didn’t know how many times she endured it. Her voice failed from screaming, the cold wind cut into her mouth like a knife. It was even more tormenting than being directly killed.
Rachel Shaw closed her eyes, ignoring her leg injury, hysterically lunging toward Ivy Summers, reaching out to scratch her.
Ivy Summers retreated to a safe distance while Damien Lancaster blocked Rachel Shaw. Rachel couldn’t touch Ivy Summers at all.
Rachel Shaw turned her head painfully towards Damien Lancaster. "Damien, you’re still stopping me? You’re still siding with her? She wants to kill me and you didn’t come to save me, and now you’re still stopping me. Why do you all treat me like this, why?"
Her pitiful cries were met with a cold laugh from the side.
"You speak as if my brother owes you something."
At the sound, Ivy Summers turned her head back, seeing a tall and lean figure leaning over there. She didn’t know how long he had been listening.
He straightened up and walked over leisurely, a face not unfamiliar, with sharp features and strikingly handsome, his contours somewhat similar to Damien Lancaster’s. But compared to Damien’s mature and stable demeanor, he exuded a more carefree and reckless vibe.
He was Damien Lancaster’s younger brother, Zachary Lancaster.
The notorious playboy among everyone.
Zachary Lancaster, Zachary Lancaster.
Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster probably named him hoping he’d be brilliant and courteous.
But because his older brother, Damien Lancaster, bore the family’s future burdens, the Lancaster Family indulged him slightly more, fostering an unruly personality with a temper so explosive he’d take down anyone he fancied.
This personality made Ivy Summers see a shadow of Noah Scott in him, feeling they could become local tyrants together.
Over the years, to prevent him from causing trouble in the country, he was kept abroad with Mr. Lancaster to manage the family business overseas.
As for managing, not quite, as he’d already closed down several subsidiaries.
Ivy Summers truly didn’t expect to see him here.
Damien Lancaster frowned, "When did you come back?"
"Noon."
Zachary Lancaster strode toward Ivy Summers, who instinctively took a step back.
If I remember correctly, this guy has a bad temper.
"Sister-in-law, long time no see."
"Ah?"
Ivy Summers was slightly taken aback, surprisingly this guy was very polite to her.
Did he smarten up after a few years abroad?
After greeting, Zachary Lancaster turned his head, with cold eyes staring at Rachel Shaw, "Rachel Shaw, does the Lancaster Family owe your family a life?"
Rachel Shaw also didn’t expect Zachary Lancaster to come back, "Zachary, why have you returned?"
"The phone calls have been coming from abroad, I came back to see if your family all died leaving only you, otherwise why would you solely rely on my brother to save you."
"... I had no choice... at that time I..."
"If you had no choice, then just die, who are you disgusting while alive?"
Damien Lancaster furrowed his eyebrows, looking somewhat dangerously at Zachary Lancaster, "Zachary Lancaster!"
"Did I say something wrong?" Zachary Lancaster was not afraid of him at all, his words not holding back in the slightest, "If you didn’t go to save her today, wouldn’t she just die outside?"
It was the truth, if Damien Lancaster hadn’t saved her, Rachel Shaw would still be lying outside, the Shaw Family wouldn’t have found her, exposed to the elements for days, by the time the Shaw Family found her, she would have become a dried corpse.
Ivy Summers silently pulled at the corners of her lips from behind.
If this guy could talk like this, why didn’t he come back sooner.
"Zachary, how can you talk like that?" Penelope Page and Phillip Shaw hurried over, Penelope Page heard what Zachary Lancaster just said and was very displeased, "Zachary, Rachel is your brother’s future wife, your future sister-in-law, is this the attitude you should have when speaking to your sister-in-law?"
"Sister-in-law? Did the Lancaster Family acknowledge her?" Zachary Lancaster raised his hand and pulled Ivy Summers to the front, "Did you all consider her dead?"
Ivy Summers tugged at the corners of her lips.
Couldn’t this guy stop using the word ’dead’ so often?
"Sister-in-law, speak up, don’t let them treat you as if you were dead."
The three from the Shaw Family were left speechless by Zachary Lancaster and all looked towards Ivy Summers.
Ivy Summers also didn’t know what to say, but at this point, she should still acknowledge the term sister-in-law.
Supporting her, how could she undermine it.
Ivy Summers raised her chin, "Right, you consider me dead?"
"You! You all!" Penelope Page opened her mouth, but didn’t say anything.
Zachary Lancaster: "Hello, sister-in-law!"
Ivy Summers looked at him: "Hello!"
She also didn’t know why she was causing a scene with this guy.
Zachary Lancaster raised an eyebrow looking at Rachel Shaw, "If I called you, would you dare to answer?"
Rachel Shaw was so angry she wanted to grind her molars to dust, turning her head to Damien Lancaster with tears in her eyes, "Damien, they... they’re too much..."
The coldness from Damien Lancaster was obviously less intense after Zachary Lancaster’s interference, and when he lowered his gaze to Rachel Shaw, he said, "You’re just waking up, talk less, go back to rest first, anything to discuss later."
"Damien, what do you mean?"
Zachary Lancaster explained on the side, "He thinks you’re annoying."
Rachel Shaw, "..."
Penelope Page and Phillip Shaw saw that with this troublemaker around, Damien Lancaster was not siding with them, the situation was obviously not in their favor, they immediately encouraged Rachel Shaw to go back to the ward first.
Rachel Shaw originally thought that her appearance like this would make Damien Lancaster feel sorry for her, thinking that Damien Lancaster would avenge her, but with Zachary Lancaster interfering like this, she ended up getting scolded badly.
"Brother, helped you out here." Zachary Lancaster sidled up to Damien Lancaster, rubbing his hands together, "As a reward, I heard you just got a new car last month..."
Damien Lancaster glanced at him.
"Go back."
...
Lancaster Family, old house.
Zachary Lancaster fiercely kissing the car keys in his hand, Damien Lancaster sat opposite him, asked, "Why did you come back, really?"
Zachary Lancaster wiped the car keys on himself, polished them to a bright shine and pocketed them, "It’s really because of this matter, the Shaw Family called to complain to Dad, Dad felt sorry for Rachel Shaw and wanted to send someone back to handle it, so I conveniently came back as well, but brother, he originally planned to come back himself, to handle your marriage."
Damien Lancaster frowned, his eyes darkened somewhat.
"What is he thinking?"
"What else could he think, he wants you to divorce your sister-in-law and marry Rachel Shaw." Zachary Lancaster leaned back, laughed, "You say he has always liked Rachel Shaw, eight years ago he wanted you to marry her, he might as well marry Rachel Shaw himself."
Damien Lancaster and Ivy Summers’ marriage was originally opposed by Gregory Lancaster, it was the old man who insisted, Damien Lancaster didn’t care either way.
Plus, Ivy Summers’ father saved the old man’s life, considering this favor, Gregory Lancaster couldn’t say much, reluctantly agreed.
It was just that five years ago something happened, Ivy Summers aborted the Lancaster Family’s child...
In Gregory Lancaster’s eyes, Ivy Summers, a death sentence!
Stepping foot in the Lancaster Family again, unless Gregory Lancaster was dead, otherwise Ivy Summers might as well forget it for the rest of her life.
"You brat, say it again." Zachary Lancaster got a smack on the back of his head by Seraphina Kennedy.
