Unexpected Marriage: She is the Sugar Mommy!
Chapter 125: Escape
CHAPTER 125: CHAPTER 125: ESCAPE
"Desmond, this is for your own good," Morgan Fairchild said, quickly turning her gaze to Desmond Fairchild at the sight of Old Mrs. Fairchild like this.
"Are you okay?" Desmond Fairchild ignored her, instead pulling Seraphina Sinclair into his arms and gently asking.
"I’m fine." Seraphina Sinclair looked at the genuine concern on Desmond Fairchild’s face, feeling even more confused inside.
Old Mrs. Fairchild asked what had happened again, and those who couldn’t hold back started speaking one by one, describing the events that had just occurred.
"How outrageous! Morgan Fairchild, is this the kind of upbringing the Fairchild Family has taught you? Did you really learn everything I taught you in the past and put it all into a dog’s belly?" Old Mrs. Fairchild’s face darkened immediately after hearing it, and she slapped the table beside her heavily in anger.
Desmond Fairchild’s face was also particularly somber. He looked at Seraphina Sinclair, who was silent at the moment, his eyes full of heartache. When he lifted his head, the tenderness in his eyes was instantly replaced by cold ice.
Morgan Fairchild was startled by his appearance, her reason returning in that instant, and as she recalled what she had just said, her face turned grim.
"Aunt, I didn’t realize that my personal affairs now require your intervention? Hmm?" Desmond Fairchild said.
"Desmond, I acted impulsively just now. I didn’t mean it like that. I was just stating some facts—she has been divorced after all." Morgan Fairchild said with an awkward smile.
"So what? I don’t care. As long as she’s the one, it doesn’t matter in what state she is. And in this lifetime, I will only marry her and her alone. Our marital affairs don’t require your concern, Aunt." Desmond Fairchild said calmly.
Seraphina Sinclair was surprised as she raised her head, never expecting him to say such things in front of everyone.
After that, Seraphina Sinclair paid no attention to what happened next; her eyes stayed fixed on Desmond Fairchild, thoughts full of what he had just said.
"Seraphina," Old Mrs. Fairchild took her to the study, looking at her dazed state with a smile.
"Ah, Grandma, what is it?" Seraphina Sinclair finally came back to her senses, noticing the teasing smile on Old Mrs. Fairchild’s face, and her cheeks flushed red.
"Did you hear what Desmond said earlier? And what about you? What do you think?" Old Mrs. Fairchild pulled Seraphina Sinclair to her side, gently stroking her hand as she spoke.
Seraphina Sinclair didn’t know how to answer for a moment, only lowering her head and giving a somewhat awkward smile, "Grandma, why bring this up all of a sudden?"
"Why is it sudden? This matter should indeed be put on the agenda, right? Just tell Grandma, what are your thoughts? Grandma promises not to tell Desmond." Old Mrs. Fairchild said.
"What could I possibly think?" Seraphina Sinclair evaded the question, her face full of resistance and discomfort, clearly unwilling to say more.
"Oh, seeing you like this, I already know what you’re thinking. Never mind, you young people will have your own fortune, and as an old woman, I won’t meddle with you." Old Mrs. Fairchild said with a sigh after seeing Seraphina Sinclair’s expression.
Seraphina Sinclair remained silent. How could she not be grateful to Desmond Fairchild? How could she not be moved by him? But some things, once experienced, make you fear a second time.
Once bitten by a snake, ten years afraid of a well rope.
The shadow left by her past failed marriage was too deep. All that talk about sincerity and love, wasn’t it all for nothing in the end, leaving her in that situation?
She was truly afraid—afraid of being hurt again, afraid that she wouldn’t survive after being hurt again. So she couldn’t convince herself, nor could she take that step.
Seeing Seraphina Sinclair like this, Old Mrs. Fairchild subtly changed the topic, speaking about Jude Sinclair’s current situation.
"Grandma, it’s getting late, and Seraphina has to work tomorrow. We should head back now." Desmond Fairchild suddenly entered the room.
Seraphina Sinclair’s heart, which had barely calmed down, surged again the moment she saw him, so she awkwardly averted her gaze.
Seraphina Sinclair silently followed Desmond Fairchild, leaving the old residence. Once they got in the car, she continued to sit in silence in the passenger seat, staring out the window.
"Don’t take what happened tonight to heart." During a stoplight interval, Desmond Fairchild looked at her and said.
"I’m not taking it to heart," Seraphina Sinclair replied flatly.
"Then why do you look so glum?" Desmond Fairchild asked, watching her pursed lips.
Seraphina Sinclair lifted her head, unexpectedly meeting his gaze, causing her heart to skip a beat. She hurriedly looked away, flustered, "I’m not, I’m just tired, it’s a green light now, hurry up and go."
Desmond Fairchild originally wanted to say more but decided to let it go upon seeing her demeanor.
Once they got home, Seraphina Sinclair retreated into the room, not even noticing Jude Sinclair sitting on the couch.
"Mom...my..." Jude Sinclair jumped up excitedly from the couch upon seeing Seraphina Sinclair come back, then watched as she dashed into her room as if being chased by a wolf.
"What’s wrong with Mommy?" Jude Sinclair curiously looked at Desmond Fairchild, who followed.
But Desmond Fairchild didn’t answer him, just pondering deeply as he looked at Seraphina Sinclair’s tightly closed door.
That night, Seraphina Sinclair had a series of nightmares, leaving her appearance unfit for viewing the next morning.
"Mommy, um, did you not sleep the whole night last night?" Jude Sinclair asked in surprise, seeing Seraphina Sinclair’s poor expression.
"It’s nothing, just didn’t sleep well," Seraphina Sinclair said listlessly, stuffing some eggs randomly into her mouth.
It’d be a miracle if she slept well; she had chaotic dreams all night.
"Dad, good morning," Jude Sinclair shifted his gaze to Desmond Fairchild, who had just walked out of the room.
"Cough cough cough..." Seraphina Sinclair choked immediately, coughing heart-wrenchingly.
"You’re a grown-up, why are you choking while eating breakfast? Drink some milk." Desmond Fairchild said helplessly, handing the milk on the table to her.
Seraphina Sinclair dared not meet his eyes, just drinking a few gulps of milk randomly, then quickly grabbing her phone and standing up from the chair.
"I have something to attend to at work today, so I’ll leave first. You guys take your time eating." With those words, she hurriedly left, not even sparing Desmond Fairchild a glance.
"Mommy, your eggs..." Jude Sinclair looked at the half-eaten eggs in Seraphina Sinclair’s bowl, but his words were cut short by the sound of the door closing.
