Chapter 131: I Won’t Let You Make the Same Mistake Again
CHAPTER 131: CHAPTER 131: I WON’T LET YOU MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN
"Want to go back? Fine, just tell me who was the man that accompanied you to the banquet tonight, and I’ll send you back right away. Otherwise, don’t even think about leaving." Desmond Fairchild saw her in that state, his anger surged even more, with a touch of easily detectable jealousy in his tone.
Seraphina Sinclair just took a deep breath, turned her head without answering, showing that she didn’t want to talk to him.
"Seraphina Sinclair, who exactly is that man? What is your relationship with him?" Desmond was about to explode, he forcibly turned Seraphina’s head to face him directly and asked.
Seraphina had her worries and didn’t want to reveal Camille White’s identity to Desmond, so she remained silent, her eyes dodged as she refused to look at him.
"Seraphina, if you’ve found someone new, just say it. You don’t say a word, have been avoiding me, and now you’re taking another man to a banquet, being all affectionate, what do you think of me? What am I to you?" Desmond’s words were reckless from being so angry at her demeanor.
When Seraphina heard him say this, she immediately lifted her head and pushed him away forcefully, speaking in disbelief, "Desmond, what nonsense are you spouting? What do you mean I’ve found someone new? When have you seen me being affectionate with Camille? My relationship with Camille isn’t what you think at all!"
"Then what is your relationship with him? You don’t tell me anything, just keep avoiding me. What do you want from me?" Desmond placed his hand on Seraphina’s shoulder, questioning her excitedly.
Before Seraphina could speak, she saw Camille angrily approaching and saying, "What are you doing!"
Since Camille learned of Desmond’s existence, apart from having Austin White lay everything out for him that night, he also looked up a lot of information about him online.
He had an almost natural hostility towards Desmond. It was unclear where this hostility came from, inexplicable yet sharply targeted.
So, not finding Seraphina at the entrance, when he tracked her down and saw Desmond agitatedly with his hand on her shoulder, his impulse overrode his rationality instantly.
"Thud!" Camille rushed over and punched Desmond. Unprepared, Desmond staggered from the blow, crashing into a wall.
Seraphina was instantly terrified, instinctively retreating a few steps.
Blood trickled from the corner of Desmond’s mouth; he wiped the blood with his finger, sneered, and quickly returned a punch to Camille. The two soon engaged in a fight, fists hitting bodies, producing a dull sound.
Camille soon found himself at a disadvantage, nearly being overpowered by Desmond. Seraphina finally regained her senses, seeing Desmond pressing Camille and panicked instantly.
Seraphina stepped forward trying to separate the two, but was at a loss. In desperation, she yelled at Desmond, "Desmond Fairchild! I’ll count to three, let go immediately! 1! 2! 3!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Desmond released Camille reluctantly, who lay on the ground, covered with marks from the punches.
"Desmond Fairchild, are you an idiot? Didn’t you notice he looks like Austin White? He’s Austin’s brother! My godson!" Seraphina really didn’t want to say more to Desmond, deeply worried as she looked at the state Camille was in.
"Ah??" Desmond’s previously stern face instantly changed, looking at her, somewhat at a loss.
"What’s with the ’ah’, hurry up and help him to the hospital. I’m telling you, if something happens to him because of you today, you’ll never hear the end of it from me!" Seraphina was practically fuming.
Although the three White brothers weren’t twins, they shared a five-point resemblance. Anyone paying attention could have noticed it, but Desmond, in a haze of anger and jealousy, didn’t notice at all.
At the hospital.
In order to keep today’s incident from spreading, Seraphina ran around for several hours, but only managed to resolve the matter and got Camille into a ward.
"Eat something, you can’t stay here hungry like this." Desmond walked into the ward, carrying fresh takeout.
"How dare you say that? If it weren’t for you, would he be like this now?" Seraphina said in a bad mood, looking at Camille who was now asleep with a disfigured face.
Luckily, the doctor said it was only superficial injuries and would heal with time. Had it led to disfigurement, she would have skinned him alive.
"Wasn’t it because you kept avoiding me, and brought him to the banquet today, I acted on impulse." Desmond awkwardly scratched his nose.
"Impulse? Only someone as impulsive as you could beat someone to this state." After speaking, Seraphina turned around.
Desmond licked his lips, placed the things he carried on the table beside her, and pulled her out of the ward.
"What are you doing? Let go!" Surprised, Seraphina stumbled into the hospital stairway as he pulled her.
"Seraphina, why did you avoid me before? Don’t think you can escape." Desmond trapped Seraphina between himself and the wall, looking down at her.
The lighting in the stairway wasn’t bright, under the dim light, Desmond’s voice seemed to carry a hypnotic allure. Seraphina finally sighed helplessly, "I’ll tell you if you let me go, okay?"
"Tell me first." Desmond wasn’t moved at all.
"Desmond, let me ask you, when you said you wanted to marry me at the old house that day, were you serious?" Seraphina asked softly.
Though Desmond didn’t understand why she suddenly brought up that day, he answered, "Said it in front of Grandma, do you think I’d joke about that?"
Seraphina was silent for a while, then suddenly looked into Desmond’s eyes, "Actually, the reason I’ve been avoiding you these few days, might be because I knew you were serious that day. Just like what your aunt said, I had a failed marriage before.
People are like that, once bitten by a snake, they’re cautious of ropes for ten years. I’m afraid, afraid of repeating past mistakes, and that before coming out of one shadow, I’d be engulfed by another..."
As she spoke, Seraphina’s voice was light and soft, as if the wind could blow it away. Her gaze dropped to the floor.
Hearing her words, Desmond’s heart, which had been hanging in the air, suddenly settled, but an unspeakable heartache surged. Then, a gentle kiss landed on Seraphina’s forehead.
"You don’t need to worry about something that won’t happen. I won’t be Ethan Lloyd, and I won’t let you repeat your past mistakes." Desmond gently lifted her head, with a resolute stance, looked at her seriously, and then kissed the corner of her lips.
As his kiss fell on the edge of her lips, Seraphina suddenly stopped feeling anxious.
