Unexpected Marriage: She is the Sugar Mommy!
Chapter 136: Childhood Sweethearts
CHAPTER 136: CHAPTER 136: CHILDHOOD SWEETHEARTS
Seraphina Sinclair was quite surprised when she received Anna’s invitation. She had heard about the stir Anna had caused at Cloudsea Group, and some people had intentionally or unintentionally told her about it.
She knew that saying she didn’t mind at all was definitely a lie. She had seen Anna with Desmond at the Lonex Company’s banquet before but hadn’t said much due to the situation at the time.
After contemplating for a while, she decided to meet her.
The address Anna mentioned in the invitation was an English-style restaurant, and the time was three thirty in the afternoon, perfect for afternoon tea.
Seraphina Sinclair donned a more formal long dress, paired with a plain wool coat, and arrived at the said location, coincidentally bumping into Anna, who had just arrived too.
"President Sinclair, nice to finally meet you. I’m Anna." Anna wore a champagne-colored suit with high heels, walking over gracefully.
"Hello, Seraphina Sinclair." Seraphina gave her a subtle glance and replied.
"Let’s go inside then." Anna looked at her calmly and took the lead to the door.
The doorman immediately opened the restaurant door, making a gesture to invite them in.
Finally, the two sat down in a relatively secluded corner of the restaurant, ordered the necessary tea snacks, after which the waiter left, leaving only the two of them in this small corner.
"Miss Anna, what is the reason you invited me out?" Seraphina looked at Anna and asked calmly.
Anna smiled slightly, gently nodded: "Of course, there’s a reason. I suppose President Sinclair you don’t yet know who I am? Shall I introduce myself first?"
"Of course, you may." Seraphina replied impassively.
From the first glance at Anna today, she inexplicably felt that something was going to happen next. Since the other party willingly threw out the bait, how could she not take it?
"My name is Anna. Desmond and I have been growing up together since childhood; it’s not too much to say we’ve been close companions. Although my father is just his butler, I believe in this era, personal ability is much more important than family background. President Sinclair, don’t you agree?" Anna said with implicit meaning.
Although there are many positive reviews about Seraphina online, Anna is skeptical about those things. Looking at her past affairs, she was nothing more than a pretty vase with a romantic mind, and most likely Desmond was behind giving her advice on those matters.
Seraphina could definitely hear the meaning behind her words. She chuckled lightly, coldness spreading in her gaze, ah, so Desmond’s little childhood friend, no wonder, meeting for the first time and already animosity toward her.
"Of course. Miss Anna, what are you trying to convey with these remarks? It’s just the two of us here, it’s pretty pointless to go around in circles, isn’t being open more preferable?" Seraphina smiled casually, her eyes full of coldness.
"Alright then, let’s speak directly. I don’t know how you and Desmond got together, but as far as my understanding of Desmond goes, he’s definitely not someone who places romance above all else. He and I are of the same kind; now being with you is merely for better development of Cloudsea Group. President Sinclair, if you don’t want things to end on a bad note after it’s all over, I sincerely advise you to pull back early." Anna said bluntly.
After hearing what she said, Seraphina frowned slightly, just about to say something when the waiter delivered their ordered tea snacks, forcing her to swallow back the words ready at her lips.
"Please enjoy." The waiter left after serving the tea snacks.
Seraphina looked at the exquisite and delicious tea snacks on the table but had no appetite, only picking up her ordered Ceylon black tea and taking a sip.
"President Sinclair, perhaps you don’t quite like hearing what I’m saying, but you can’t deny that these are facts.
Desmond and I have grown up together, attended the same kindergarten, the same primary school, middle school, high school, and even university; we’ve been at the same schools all along, just that later on I chose to study abroad, so I am not by his side." Anna looked at Seraphina’s delicate face and said.
The implication being, had I not left, would you even have had anything here?
When Seraphina first heard her say these words, she indeed experienced a moment of anger but soon calmed down.
"Actually, telling me these things doesn’t have much significance. Even if I were to be swayed by you and went back to question Desmond, do you think our relationship would be that easily shattered? After an argument, do you believe he wouldn’t ask me for the reason? When he finds out the reason, what do you guess he would think of you?" Seraphina put down the teacup, her hands folded on her lap, calmly looking at her.
"President Sinclair, is that a threat?" Anna’s face darkened for a moment.
"Not a threat, I’ve just stated facts. Furthermore, you come to me with these words, instead of directly going to Desmond to say you dislike him being with me; this indicates Desmond probably still doesn’t know your feelings for him, right? If he knew, what do you think he would do?" Seraphina smiled slightly, using a knife to cut a small piece of chiffon cake lightly.
Anna seeing her this calm demeanor couldn’t help but frown, she seemed not as foolish as she imagined.
"If you’ve invited me out just to say this matter, then I think we haven’t much left to discuss, thank you for the treat, goodbye." Seraphina elegantly swallowed the cake in her mouth, stood up and said.
"Wait a minute, I think President Sinclair you’re a smart person, these things I said today, you can rethink them carefully, I believe it won’t be detrimental to you at all." Anna also stood up.
But Seraphina did not reply to her further, turned and left.
Coming out of the restaurant, a gust of chilly wind along with the coldness of early winter swept toward her, causing Seraphina to clutch her coat tightly, it’s really cold, it seems winter has truly arrived.
From what Anna said, Seraphina could roughly guess Anna’s intent; it’s all just that she grew up with Desmond, they were childhood companions, and she is more competent than Seraphina, thus more suitable to be Desmond’s wife.
Seraphina couldn’t help but sigh, a surge of bitterness rose in her heart repeatedly, it was a past she had never been part of, yet Anna’s presence was felt everywhere.
But, after all, she and Desmond were not together, they merely had a maintenance agreement, besides jointly raising a son.
