Chapter 14: A Grandson’s Wife Is Not Guaranteed
CHAPTER 14: CHAPTER 14: A GRANDSON’S WIFE IS NOT GUARANTEED
At the dinner table, Shirley Lynch’s face was slightly red as she sneakily glanced at Desmond Fairchild a few times and quickly gave him a piece of meat with her chopsticks: "Here, you eat."
Old Mrs. Fairchild was very pleased with Shirley’s initiative, and said kindly, "You should eat more, too. I specifically instructed the kitchen to make plenty of dishes."
"I’m dieting, Grandma Fairchild." Shirley Lynch replied with a somewhat bashful smile.
Desmond Fairchild said nothing, but as he gazed at her coy demeanor, an unbidden image of Seraphina Sinclair sprang to mind—a girl daring to love and hate, resolute and swift, seemingly more aligned with his preferences.
Especially with the text message he just received; his client seems quite uneasy about him.
Setting aside the bowl from which Shirley Lynch had given him food, Desmond Fairchild spoke in a deep, sexy voice, "Grandma, I’m full."
"You haven’t even started eating, how can you be full?"
Upon hearing this, Desmond’s narrow gaze swept over Shirley Lynch, whose face had suddenly turned white, and he smiled slightly, "Before coming here, I had hotpot with my son and his mommy, I’m not hungry now."
What!?
Shirley Lynch was immediately stunned, her delicate and pretty face oscillating between green and white; this meal she’d been looking forward to now felt more like an insult.
But Old Mrs. Fairchild was overjoyed upon processing her grandson’s news—she was going to be a great-grandmother?
Instantly delighted, she was completely unconcerned with Shirley Lynch, and quickly asked, "You’re not lying to me, right? Where is my great-grandson?"
"He’s with his mommy; they didn’t come home last night, they’re at Jude’s." Desmond Fairchild spoke lightly, thinking of his son and revealing a faint smile.
His gaze fell on Shirley Lynch, and unceremoniously issued a dismissal, his voice cold, "Miss Lynch, my son’s mommy doesn’t allow me to talk to other women, she will get angry. You should leave."
Shirley Lynch, having been invited by Old Mrs. Fairchild, received an unhappy glare from her, "How can you speak like that!"
But compared to her great-grandson, Shirley Lynch’s importance was negligible.
Old Mrs. Fairchild thought that this time they were at fault, though fortunately, the issue wasn’t exposed. It was just a matter of inviting Shirley for a meal, which wouldn’t affect her much.
Now that there was a great-grandson, Shirley Lynch was no longer in her considerations.
Old Mrs. Fairchild, full of smiles, had the servants come to escort, "Miss Lynch, you should head home first, and once I clarify everything, I’ll certainly give you an explanation."
Just having called her ’Irene’, now switching the address to ’Miss Lynch’—Shirley Lynch stood up awkwardly, feeling aggrieved, yet having to continue playing the obedient persona, "Just as well, there’s something at home, Grandma Fairchild, I’ll be leaving first."
Hello!
After speaking, Shirley Lynch turned away, tears of grievance immediately flowing, feeling immensely bitter—just who was that woman; to so shamelessly climb into bed and even stealthily have a child.
Once the person left, Old Mrs. Fairchild’s expression immediately changed, flaring up with anger, "Are you entangled with some improper woman? Have you done a paternity test?" As she spoke, she started to scold, "Why haven’t you brought the child here? A child of the Fairchild family can’t be left outside."
Desmond Fairchild spoke in a low voice, "Jude just came back, he’s not close to me, I’ll bring him here after some time."
Jude Sinclair had always lived with Seraphina, and suddenly leaving mommy might make the child resent him.
Such a situation cannot be allowed to occur.
Old Mrs. Fairchild listened, bewildered, completely confused, "What about my granddaughter-in-law?"
Desmond Fairchild lit a cigarette with his lighter, smoke billowing between his fingertips, his deep gaze seeming contemplative.
Regarding Seraphina Sinclair’s situation, he needed to investigate further; his son’s mommy couldn’t be someone of unknown background.
Then the man’s sharp brows lifted, his thin lips curving slightly, "You have a great-grandson, doesn’t necessarily mean you have a granddaughter-in-law."
